Works great for hanging a Burley Bee bike trailer
Purchased this to hang a Burley Bee bike trailer which otherwise takes up a lot of floor space when not in use. For anyone looking to hang the same trailer, note that the trailer is not resting against the wall in the photo even though it is very close - because of the weight distribution it hangs completely level on its own when suspended from the wheels, albeit upside down. I remove the tow bar and the flag to prevent them knocking the wall when rotating the trailer on the way up and down - that adds a little time, but I'm not doing it every day. Just make sure to empty the cargo area before you hang it up or everything in there is probably going on the floor. The single mounting bar makes install easier than hoists that have each pulley support separate, but it does limit how far apart you can get them, though this wasn't an issue for my use case. I did use longer screws as they had to go through a thick layer of fire-rated drywall in my garage ceiling before getting into the studs. If I was mounting directly to bare stud the included screws would be fine.

Good Bike Lift for the price
Have had these installed in my garage for about 1 month. Fairly easy to install and seem to be working fine. The lock mechanism takes a little practice but overall a good product for the price. I bought 2 of them.

Works well with one flaw
The lift was easy to assemble and install. It lifts and hold the bike well. The flaw is the hooks that secure to the handlebars. They aren’t big enough to be secured to larger diameter handlebars. I had to create a strap that goes around the stem and secure to that hooks on the lift.

Works, but quality reflects the budget price. Instructions are really bad for an importance step.
Ordered two of these and from the other reviews I knew it wasn't going to be perfect but I was hoping it would be good enough considering the price and at the end of the day its just good enough. Pros: 1. Fairly minimal parts counts and the overall instructions for installing it are pretty good except for the final steps with running the rope. 2. It works. Once hung up you can get the bike up and down, but its not nearly as easy as it should be. 3. Fits a full size bike, but just barely. If you have a tight space or want to hang multiple bikes, be careful with measuring before you hang it to check clearances as there will be minimal forward/back adjustment. Cons: 1. Holy lack of detail batman. Pretty good instructions on getting the main bar mounted and the main parts in place. But then you get to the critical part on how to route the rope through the catch which is supposed to control whether you can raise/lower the bike and lock it in place once raised. Basically the instructions are the equivalent of 100 steps on how to gather ingredients and then one line saying "now make a lasagna". The written instructions don't explain how to string the latch and the picture is pretty much useless. You can figure it out and one of the other reviewers posted some tips, but its like the guy writing the instructions never actually did that step and basically got to 4th and 10 and punted. 2. The general tension and ability to smoothly raise and lower the bike is not nearly as good as I was hoping for. The pulleys all seem to have a lot of friction and the routing of the cord through the latch adds some friction, but you just have to pull a lot harder than you should for the weight of the bike. My wife's racing bike weighs under 20 lbs and given there are two pulley and 4 cords, mechanical advantage means you should be able to lift the bike with 5-10 lbs of tension on the cord. But due to friction and the routing of the cord through the latch, I really have to pull a lot harder than I was expecting. Maybe I still have the latch strung wrong, but I'm not sure my wife could actually raise the bike easily if it came down to it. Lowering is more of the same and I found that I really needed to pull on the wheel a bit to get it to come down smoothly. 3. Last thing is about the hooks which hold the handlebars and the seat. They work, but don't inspire a lot of confidence. One other reviewer wrote that the bike would fall off the hooks when raising and lowering and I believe it. Especially if you have a racing style saddle the hooks won't have much of a lip to hook on and I can see that being an issue. In our case we use a seat cover on the racing bike and the hybrid had a good lip on the seat back so its pretty stable, but I could see it being an issue. Be prepared to rig up a strap with a carabiner or something if you have a smaller seat. Overall, for the price I think this is still an ok buy. We're not daily riders anymore so we're only taking them up and down a few times a week maybe so its not terrible. But if I was doing it every day I might be thinking about trashing them or doing some serious modifications to make it easier to use. But for me, every time I get frustrated I think about how much more expensive a good lift is and just forget about it.

Works for heavy bike with basic mods
Using this to mount a heavy mountain bike with a chromoly frame. I installed this and have had my bike on it for the last 3 months and it's still totally solid. Like other reviewers mentioned, while the hooks support the weight of the bike, raising and lowering are awkward. I wouldn't use this if I were using my bike frequently. Tips: - Use longer screws than the ones provided. I used 3" wood screws and mounted the rail on a piece of 4x4 wood. I attached the 4x4 to a ceiling beam with lag bolts. - If you use larger screws, counter-sink the holes so that the new screws are as flush to the rail as possible. Otherwise, the screw heads will block the pulleys and prevent them from sliding in. Thanks to the other reviewers who left detailed instructions with pictures!

Secure and versatile
This is a very neat rack that can be adjusted to suit any of the bicycles in our household. The adjustability was especially important to me as I had a very limited space and I needed to be able to tweak the longitudinal position of the bicycle to clear the walls. This would not have been possible if I had used a hoist with just two fixed pulleys. It was the versatility of this rack that particularly attracted me. It comes with 8 fixing screws (size no 10, I estimate), that should be more than sufficient to secure it to a joist. The joists in our garage run at right angles to the required orientation of the rack, so I bolted the rack to a piece of timber and secured the timber across three joists with nine 50 mm no 10 wood screws (three of which are through both the rack and the timber support and the other six are just through the timber support). It is easy enough to raise and lower the bicycle. I should have liked to have guards on the sides of the pulleys to prevent the rope coming off the pulleys (hence only 4 stars). Knowing it can happen has made me more attentive. If the rope does come off the pulley then the bicycle can still be lowered, so it is only an inconvenience.

Good main fittings but Poor rope and locking mechanism
The metal main metal parts are very good. Unfortunately the first time we used it the rope frayed. We replaced the rope with a higher quality sailing rope which we have routed over the pulleys without using the locking mechanism. We have fixed a more robust cleat to the garage wall and use this instead of the locking mechanism. The light weight cleat provided is used to hold the spare rope. We are also using a short bunge to connect one of the pulleys to the handlebars because the fitting provided is not big enough to attach to the handlebars securely. This arrangement seems to be working well for lifting up my wife’s electric mountain bike when I am servicing it etc.

Quality product that works easily.
Overall it is a good quality product. It has pre-drilled holes so that it can align with 16" and 24" on centre ceiling joists. This worked great in my application as the ceiling joist position worked where I wanted the bikes to hang. You may have to add in a wood plate in some applications if the bikes need to be in a place where joist spacing doesn't work (or you may be able to drill extra holes in the aluminum bike hoist frame). I only have 2 minor complaints. The instructions on how to thread the rope through are vague and the picture is so little that you can't tell which route to use but not overly difficult to figure out. I have a kayak lift from another company and the rope hook pulleys are enclosed by metal sides. The rope hook pulleys that attach to the bike have open sides so the rope easily derails while trying to attach the bike. Once the weight of the bike is on the lines it stays on but it is a little awkward trying to balance the bikes, keep, the line in the hook pulleys all while trying to get the bike off the ground. Operation to raise and lower the bike works well and they provide lots of line. Our ceiling is 11.5 feet and there was sufficient line. The hooks that attach to the bike are plastic coated to protect the bike. Overall, great product!

Exactly as described
I bought this hoist specifically because I needed to mount it across the beams in my garage, and this is the only one that met my specifications (I have a 61 pound ebike that I need to store in winter). I am very happy with it overall, but only gave it four stars because the locking mechanism is not the best - the rear end of my bike slips a bit. I added nylon straps, wrapping them around the bike at each end, and the 2 X 3 board that the hoist is mounted on, just to be sure the bike does not fall onto my car.
