Have yet to get it to work properly.
This forced me to make further comment - a mistake. This does not work as easily as the device I previously used to do the same thing. This has not yet given a reliable reading, so I marked off the loss of the purchase and moved on. I might one day figure out how to get this one to read the reflective tape.

Worked fine for gauging a CNC spindle
I have a cheapo CNC spindle that I wanted to measure the RPM of (since it's just controlled by an uncalibrated potentiometer). This tachometer worked quite well. I just put the shiny tape on the black fan above the spindle. I don't have much to compare the accuracy against, but the highest and lowest RPM of the spindle as read by this device seems to match approximately what the spindle was specd for (but it's a cheap spindle so who knows if that's accurate). This was suitable for my needs, especially at this price point.

I purchased this tachometer and
It works great very simple to use it seems to be pretty on point with where the RPMs should be at on the motors I have tested for the price and just to get an idea of where a motor stands at roughly I think it’s a great purchase would highly recommend very simple to use and the batteries actually last quite some time review is a little late but I bought this thing a while ago and it still running on the same ones and I have used it multiple times thank you everyone if you need a good tachometer and don’t wanna spend a bunch of money that’s a great road to go down and it doesn’t look cheap either it actually looks really nice and well-built so I was surprised I thought I might get some thing in the box when it arrives with that look like maybe a brick with the hole drilled into it may be a sticking out and possibly I don’t know a fox tail hanging off the end so you can see the turbulence of the motor turning as the fox tail goes back-and-forth and that is the way that I might’ve been counting my RPMs I have no idea I don’t even know where I came up with this thing that I’m talking about right now but anyways it works great try it thanks everyone highly recommend will buy again and it arrived fast

Would be higher rating if I didn't have to fix it first.
Was not in a condition to work right out of the box. The device was still in shrink wrap so it was not a return, but it could not provide a reading first time I tried to use it. I work in optics and could tell right away the problem was with the lens assembly because it was loose and out of position. I was able to fix it quickly and then it worked like a charm. If the initial quality was high I would give it four stars. In case you take the plunge and also get a lemon, here is what to do: Remove the battery cover. There are two small black screws recessed in holes that need to be removed; use a skinny Phillips head screwdriver to remove them. At the opposite end there are two more screws also recessed. When those are out remove the top cover. The two push buttons may fall off their switches but don't worry, just set them aside. On the top of the circuit board near the lens you will see a clear photodiode; mine was bent at a severe angle. If necessary use your fingers to bend it so it is pointing straight forward toward the lens- make sure the photodiode does not bend down toward the circuit board because the light emitter is mounted on the underside of the board and you don't want to block the light. The lens is biconvex so it doesn't matter which side is which; it sits loosely inside a plastic ring. There is a larger plastic spacer that holds the lens firmly within its plastic ring- they don't snap together tightly but when you have them positioned correctly they will stay together well enough to place them together as a unit in the tachometer. The lens end of the assembly goes toward the photodiode. There is a rim on the spacer that fits in a groove at the very front of the tachometer and the rim has an oval shape so the assembly needs to be rotated so that it nestles down in the groove. Once the assembly is in place you can close the tachometer, but make sure the switch buttons are seated on top of the two switches (the Test and Memory switches) and angled at a 45 degree angle so they'll match up to the holes in the tachometer cover. Then you can press the cover in place over the switches and put the four screws back. It sounds awfully complicated but it really only took five minutes to fix and then it worked perfectly. I also can verify its accuracy because I was using a synchronous motor controlled by a pulse generator that outputs exactly 2500 rpm and that is what I got from the tachometer. My only quibble is that the device displayed 0 rpm when it actually wasn't getting a signal; I would prefer that it have an indicator of no signal.

Works well for me
I can't comment on the accuracy as I don't have a calibrated tachometer to compare but it looks about right. It is very easy to use and comes with plenty of reflective tape.

Buen producto
Utilicé el tacómetro para diagnosticar un fan clutch defectuoso. Las lecturas de RPM son muy precisas, tiene función de memoria para registrar máximos, mínimos y última lectura. Incluye estuche, baterías y stickers reflectantes, así que se puede utilizar recién salido de su caja. Le doy 4 estrellas debido a que el láser está un poco descentrado y se aprecia una sombra en el haz de luz. Aún con el defecto funcionó de maravilla. Debo agregar que no es necesario utilizar stickers reflectantes. Un punto de pintura blanca sirve bien como referencia.

Llegó defectuoso.
Desafortunadamente el que recibí no funcionó, al parecer el display estaba dañado y todo el tiempo marcaba caracteres extraños, no se pudo realizar ninguna medición. El proceso de devolución fue rápido y sencillo.

This Tachometer is a good value. Easy to use and works great. I use it for setting the RPMs on lawnmowers, generators and snowblowers. The price was good, the shipping was fast. Overall a good value

Works as advertised. Comes with plenty reflective tape, 4 batteries and extra screws for when you lose the one that holds the battery cover on. It does rattle as was mentioned by a previous review. Still works fine, though.
