What I have been looking for.... You should too.

After buying a little fire pit for myself (https://www.amazon.com/Rootless-Medium-16-5-Portable-Outdoor/dp/B01NBU7XLH/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8), I noticed that actually starting the fire was becoming an issue. Thankfully I was not the unknown survivor on the the side of the island in Castaway who couldn't make fire. Friends invited to a bonfire brought these discs, we used them and oh so easy. With a little fuel from a starter liquid and using this, your bonfire will become lit very quickly. Honestly, I think instead of using the whole thing, you can cut these in pieces like a pie and one but should be good enough for a small fire. About perfect. Definitely taking one with me when backpacking in remote areas as well in case of emergency. Wilson! I have made fire!

Burned Well!

We bought these for backpacking in Point Reyes. There are BBQ stands in each site and we pack in a few cubes of charcoal to cook on for one dinner. I purchased these disks to help get the charcoal going since it is so damp on the coast. We struggled to get the disk lit and burning on its own. Finally I grabbed a small square of paper towel from my gear to light up. That was enough to get the disk started finally. From there, it put off plenty of heat and got our charcoal started. We packed along others to use as small warming fires for our hands, but didn’t use them. We plan to pack them along on future trips in the Sierras, but DEFINITELY will include some dry paper tinder to make the process of lighting the disk a bit more efficient.

FIRE!

As an inexperienced camper who loves some morning coffee but struggles to build a fire. This was a life saver. Just break this bad boy into four pieces, throw one in the fire and grab a match and watch the flames start!

Fire building skills lacking? This is for you!

Awesome product! If your like me and find your fire building skills lacking at times then this is for you. I use it to light my indoor stove and fireplace and it always works. Depending on how good your kindling you can get multiple used from this block. I know I broke mine into ateast ten pieces. I will say that after I had it a while it for very crumbly but then I would just sprinkle it over my wood and paper and it worked just as well. Wonderful product wonderful price

Fires yes, cooking no.

Disliked: 1. Cooking, there is no way a single one these will bring 2 cups of water to a boil...not sure how you can safely cook anything with it, let alone prepare a mountain house meal. 2. They created a lot of soot on my cookware. Liked: 1. They are easy to light, especially if you scrape some off and place on top of the puck. 2. If broken into smaller chunks, they would work well for fire starters. At $1.89 as an add on item, its worth it for fire starting, but not for cooking or boiling water.
