Damn strong

It’s real heavy. A good 5lb, probably a bit more idk. Had this for about a year and it’s never been tampered with when I chain my bike. Bike was considerably expensive so I went with buying this since typical bike locks are able to be cut through with lock cutters or the electrical ones could just be messed with magnets. The chain comes with 2 keys and could be lock-picked but who’s gonna waste their time doing that in broad daylight?

First chain wouldn't unlock but second did!

Props to the Amazon rep as they refunded me to grab another chain after the first wouldn't unlock even after lubrication, was told it was the same price but had to pay another $20 as the price went up so that was annoying. BUT this second chain works perfectly!! Unlocks nice and smoothly, no issues at all with and am very very happy with it! :)

Best as a Deterrent

The bright red sleeve's high visibility is one of the reasons I bought this over a gold or diamond rated chain. It's not too heavy but still puts up a fight against angle grinders--evidenced by the fact motorcycle lock review websites mention this lock. I'm comfortable using it for stops in my small city. I would not use it for overnight security or areas where bike thefts are very common. Get something heavier with angle grinder resistance if that's what you're looking for. Use more than one lock if you don't know the area.

Difficult to lock and unlock

It's definitely good at deterring someone from stealing my bike. I've got an E-Bike that I ride to work and park outside on the bike racks. So far (knocks on wood) no one has stolen the bike, even though I keep it outside all day long. My only issue with it is when I go to unlock it or unlock it, the locking mechanism can sometimes fall back to locked, so when I go to lock it back I have to lock it back again.

Tried and proven!

Recently had a theft attempt as demonstrated by the photos. It looks like the nylon clogged whatever they were using to get at it and the chain and everything remained intact. So happy with this because I love my bike!

The minimum lock I’d recommend If you want to keep your bike

There are hundreds of bike locks on the market that claim to be cut proof, pick proof, or just generally theft proof at prices from $20 to several hundreds of dollars. Most, sadly, are garbage that can be defeated in seconds by a low-skilled attack. There are really only two kinds of lock construction that can slow down a thief: U-locks made from hardened steel, and hardened steel chains secured by a pick-resistant and drill resistant lock. (A lot of locks claim to be made from hardened steel but aren’t). A good lock also needs a good core. That means either a pin tumbler core with at least five and preferably six pins, including security pins, or a disc detainer type core like the one in this lock. Kryptonite gives this lock a security rating of five out of ten. That’s not very good, you make think, when I can buy a higher rated lock for half the price. The difference is that Kryptonite’s rating are honest and realistic. They’ll tell you right up that this lock is not sufficient or recommended for dense urban areas or college campuses or overnight locking outdoors. For those situations you’ll need something heavier and stronger. What this lock is good for is locking your bike up at a coffeehouse where you can keep an eye on it, or suburban shopping, or locking a bike in your garage, where there’s already another layer of security. While it will resist most simple brute force attacks that will easily defeat cable locks and unhardened chains, like hacksaws and small bolt cutters, it *can* be defeated with tools more sophisticated thieves are carrying these days, like cordless angle grinders. You can get a bike lock as cheaply as $5, and if your bike is only worth $50, that may be adequate. For most bike owners, though, this lock is the absolute minimum I’d recommend to protect a bicycle from theft. I often recommend it to friends, and it’s my choice for most of my daily riding and shopping trips, but I don’t leave my bike outside after dark, and I don’t live in a high crime area. One tip: If yours suddenly becomes difficult to turn, inspect the keyway for scratches and marks. It may mean that someone has been trying to break into it.

Feels very secure

There's no fear that your bike will get nicked when you use this bad boy. My only complaint is that it's really, really heavy - bear that in mind, as you're going to be cycling with it in your basket or backpack!

Not invincible but will make the thief work very hard

Rated as a bronze. I use it in conjunction with a squire compact eiger d lock. The chain goes on the front of the frame to secure the front wheel as well. Because this combination is relatively light it means it is more useable. Bosnian bill demonstrated the lock is very good so it is the chain which will be attacked therefore keep it well off the ground to defeat bolt cutters. This chain is bad news for thieves because although it is defeatable the frame will also be damaged making the theft pointless.

Looks more substantial than other cheaper locks

Good lock, bike insurance approved silver rating. A bit fiddly to lock if you’re in a rush but you get used to it.
