Nice kits with quality wood and nails instead of gluing!

Nice kit. These are almost impossible to find in my area, so finding this for my husband and our grandson to make together was a gem. We prefer to build out of quality wood and hardware, then hang on our trees. The ones ready-made in the hobby shops are made of cheap and thin birch wood and glued, so they wouldn't last after one rainy and windy night. The price was reasonable.

I put these together with my daughters and they really enjoyed being hands on with a project. Some of the nails were too short in spots, but with reading other reviews it was expected. Overall very easy and when the girls painted them, they become even more special.

Log Bird House

This was a nice birdhouse for my grandson who is 7. He will be painting it. We found gluing rather than nailing is the best construction move. The house is small but fun for young children to build.

What I wish I knew before purchasing this kit...

I bought this and several other kits by the same manufacturer for my 11 and 12 year old to build. They are "experienced" bird house builders so these kits really appealed. My first mistake was not paying close enough attention to the shipping coasts- for $45 dollars worth of kits, I paid an unbelievable $32 in shipping. The quality of the kits at first glance seemed fine, but once we began to build we could easily see that the "new and improved" predrilled holes were inaccurate. The nails as well, were too short to go all the way through the wood and "bite into" the second piece of wood. Many of the nails had burrs on the end leaving them square tipped and blunt rendering them rather useless. My 12 year old completed hers only to pick it up and have it completely fall apart in her hands. I contacted the seller only to have them inform me that their return policy states they cannot take back open products. Still stinging from the outrageous shipping costs I was unwilling to pay more to return my unopened kits. I went out and bought new nails to complete the remaining kits we purchased but overall, poor quality and poor customer service leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Good DIY Project

This is a very nice kit for the price. I have not put mine together yet but all parts seem like they will line up okay and it seems to be a sturdy wood that it is made of. I will probably use some glue as well as the included nails that came in the kit.

bird houses

Very cute when completed. I bought this for my grandson who received his very own tool box for Christmas. This was his first project. Went together well but the nails were a little short so his dad provided some that were alittle longer. My grandson (age 7) assembled this entirely on his own and can't wait for a bird family to move in this spring.
