I love this thing!
I got a countertop pebble ice maker and needed a mallet to break up the bags of ice stored in the freezer. My cousin recommended this mallet. I use it often and for more than ice. The bag keeps it protected from other things in the cupboard. I love this thing!

Slams the chunks
Crushes ice nicely, the bag is small but you can crush enough for two glasses maybe. If I want more than that I will use the bag to go over my bagged of ice and just whack out the clumps of ice and they still break up nicely. Solid build for both pieces.

Does what it says
The mallet and bag work. If you are getting holes in the bag you are simply hitting it too hard. This isn't ring the bell or whac-a-mole. It takes barely any effort to turn ice cubes to shards, and Im not using the hexagon cubes, I use the slightly larger B-style 15 cube trays. Single cube comes out at like 1.2-1.5" squared, depending on how full you get it. anyways, I just got mine and filled the bag...and like some of you started going at the bag of ice with the mallet for like 6 seconds like I was mad at it. Then I peeked and all the ice was pulverized. So for quality control I filled it again...and like just taped...a strong tap but not a whack. Ice was in shards. Perfect. Not sure about care for the bag, But the mallet is nice wood, im waiting to get some oil to treat it before I use it again. Just remember to focus your inner Happy Gilmore...just give it a little tap, tap,tap,taparoo...But if you feel the need to punch Bob Barker, go to town. It is yours and was only $20. As you can see from the picture adding the protection oil darkens the wood quite a bit, but no biggie unless wood color is important to you

Great set, but not without one huge fault
This is a very affordable lewis bag and mallet set. The bag is of great quality and is an appropriate size; I get enough ice for 2 Mai Tais with a single bag full. The hammer works well; however, the head is only attached to the handle through a close fit, no adhesives or anything. After a few pounds, the head of the hammer separates from the handle and you have to lodge it back in. Very frustrating fault to an otherwise great product.

Happy with it
I've had it for about a month and have almost no problems with it. Almost - 1st use a loose string came out with the crushed ice (I was not mortified). No loose strings since. After about 3 weeks and dozens of uses, there is a very tiny "hole." It's more like the threads in the middle of the bag have separated. Probably from hitting a sharp or hard corner of the ice directly. No big deal though. Still very happy and would buy again.

Solid hammer, small hole developed in bag.
The hammer is hefty and feels solid. Does the job well - crushing ice and knocking undesired ice from my molds. The bag, however, developed a little hole after about 4-5 uses. The hole has not gotten any bigger, nor have any ice pieces come out of it while using it. I am overall satisfied, though somewhat wary about the bag tearing.

Great wooden mallet, and love the canvas bag too!
This mallet is great. It comes with a canvas bag so I placed the ice cubes in the bag and hammer them. The ice breaks into nice small pieces to use in Margaritas and other drinks, or for even a glass of refreshing water with lemon. It was a little pricey, but worth it. I get a lot of compliments on it when I have guests over.

Strong, durable, well made product!
Great items, very well made! I don’t have an ice crusher on my fridge, but if you’re like me and like crushed ice, this is the item to purchase! Both the bag and mallet are very well made. I’m sure I’ll get a life times use out of both of them. The cotton/canvas bag is thick, durable, doesn’t shed fibbers and dries extremely quickly if you leave it out of the freezer. The mallet is very well made, durable and just the right size for crushing ice for personal use. Just one note, the bag isn’t very large but that’s an easy fix, if you need a lot of crushed ice for a party of something, just crush it then pop it in a container in the freezer and crush more.

Fantastic, therapeutic way to crush ice
Love this sturdy Lewis bag and mallet set. One 3-inch square cube of ice in the bag and a couple of swift smacks fills a Collins glass with crushed ice quick as a wink -- and relieves some of the day's stress (lol). It might be nice were the bag a teeny bit larger, but that is a very very minor thing.

Very tiny
Good quality and good mallet, but be warned: this is a very, very (very!) tiny Lewis bag. As in, just barely big enough to fit a paperback book into. So you are going to get one drink's worth of crushed ice out of it at best.
