Safe
Best gas can you buy. Solid, holds 5 gallons, very safe!! Not too enthusiastic about plastic ones. Oh by the way , never splashes around. Solid last for years.

Very pleased with them...I bought 2
We live in rural Hawaii on a small coffee farm. Buying gas at Costco saves us about 90 cents per gallon, so we try to store a reasonable amount of gasoline here for emergencies and for all the small equipment engines we run. I wanted to buy two new metal cans to replace some plastic ones which were leaking. This was the first of these I bought, but it will not be last. It is made well of durable material. Nothing complicated, just pull the handle and pour. They do not leak and they do not seem to vent much or at all. The seal seems to be cork, so once that gets wetted, it seals reliably and well. At first I thought they were not 5 gallon, as they are taller and thinner than others I own, but sure enough, they hold 5 gallons.

Things to know.
I purchased 2 cans. Both arrived in great shape. They appear to be sturdy and well-built. Neither leaked and they seal well with no noticeable fuel odors. I inserted a long neck funnel when filling mine which in turn kept the can's filler cap opened hands free. Recommended.

Best available design still drips gas during the pour. Maybe time for new design?
Without doubt, this is the best gas can design there is to offer. And yet the design hasn't really changed in literally a hundred years. Without doubt, even with a funnel, you're going to get drips coming from the lip of the can that will travel down the surface of the can and onto your shoes, the car and the road. Even with a proper funnel. It would be smart if they designed the lip to jut out a bit from the cylinder of it's construction so that the drips are diverted instead into the gas can. And you have to hold the can like you're holding gym weights out in front of you... for fifteen minutes steady. It's a workout. Does it have to function this way? Why? There has to be an easier way. I expect designs to move forward. This one absolutely needs improvement. After a hundred years of the same design, maybe it's time to change the rules and spec a can or _something_ that doesn't drip down the side? Isn't a chore to hold? Can you do that Justrite?

Hard to keep open
The can seems to be well constructed and I like that all the hinges and parts are metal and not plastic but I wish it came with an attached funnel and a locking mechanism to keep it open. It is hard to fill because the spring is very strong, which is a good thing but would be nice if there was a way to keep it open.

Excellent can, Made in USA
If you want an excellent can that is still made in the USA, this is your can. It has a deep stainless mesh anti-flashback screen that allows you to fully insert the fuel nozzle without any issues. The spring on the lid keeps it tight enough that I can add fuel treatment after it's full and give it a good shake without any fears of even a drop leaking out. Yet the lever is not too stiff to make it easy to hold open. The handle is hinged so that you can maintain the same grip to keep the lid open while you pour - important for filling a big tank, a tank that's high up, or for when the can is getting empty. It's also nice as you carry the can - it hangs naturally from your arm/hand. And, in case you're not used to using metal cans, it levels the can as you set it down, so it reduces the chance of denting the lower rim as you set it down on asphalt or concrete surfaces. Like the others who have compared the Justrite cans to the Eagle cans, I sided with Justrite on the basis that the can just seemed like a better design. I purchased three cans in total - this one for my diesel tractor, and two smaller red ones with gooseneck spouts for my gas and gas-oil mix equipment. This one is Made in USA, and states so clearly on the box and can. The two gooseneck cans (Justrite 7225130 AccuFlow 2.5 Gallon, 11.75" OD x 12" H Galvanized Steel Type II Blue Safety Can With 1" Flexible Spout andJustrite 7210120 AccuFlow 1 Gallon, Galvanized Steel Type II Red Safety Can With 5/8" Flexible Spout - both are red, despite their descriptions, by the way) are made in China, also clearly marked on the boxes and cans. I don't know if the lower capacity cans are made in China, or if it's the ones with the gooseneck pouring spouts. I decided that the design of the cans was good enough to forgo the country of origin, although I hope that Justrite is listening when I say that I would have gladly paid the extra cost of having this can made in the USA! If you've read this far, you probably have already decided that a perfectly sealed metal can is the better choice compared to plastic cans that have pouring issues, odor issues (this can has spent many trips from the gas station inside my minivan without the slightest hint of fuel odor escaping), or whose cap always seems to get lost or chewed by mice. My final plug for any can that is perfectly sealed is that your fuel will be less likely to degrade or become contaminated with dust, etc. and any CARB-compliant container will do the trick. As you would expect, this can is in fact CARB compliant. ...and in case you didn't know, the accepted standard color for diesel fuel cans is yellow. If you want one of these cans for gas, save yourself any embarrassment and get it in red instead:Justrite 7250120 AccuFlow 5 Gallon, 11.75" OD x 17.50" H Galvanized Steel Type II Red Safety Can With 5/8" Flexible Spout

Well built, paint looks great, and clever (metal) handle device that opens the cap "automatically" while pouring. Highly recommended over a plastic fuel can.
