Has potential but you need to really experiment with it
I have had this for just over a month now and I'm still trying to get it just right. With the price of eggs these days, it's frustrating when the egg explodes or doesn't come out right. First I would say, disregard the timings on the directions provided and find your own. I have a 1000 Watt GE Profile microwave. They brand and wattage of your microwave as well as the size of the egg and the temperature of the water to start all impact your end result. I found if I put warm water in the cup that's when I end up with an explosion. So I always start with cold tap water. I fill it to just below the fill line, otherwise, I find it overflows once it gets cooking. I heat if for about 35 seconds, then add the egg and lid and go about 40 seconds. Sometimes the yolk is partially hard and partially runny, but the white is a little runny. A few times it has come out perfectly being cooked like this. I saw a previous reviewer used a different power setting other than high, so perhaps I will experiment with that. I love this concept because I only eat 1 egg, so it's much better than getting a pan of boiling water going, however, there is alot of trial and error to this.

Works very well- once you figure it out
I really like this. It is quality and it cleans most easily using a soft bristle dish brush & dish soap. Pour a little water in the cup/basket, crack egg into it, fill more water to fill line & put the top on. I cook 1 large egg 2 min 50 sec with power level 6 in 950 watt microwave-firm yolk. If you don’t get the power level & cook time right-you get exploded egg. So, I do not do full power :D

This is perfect way for me to get started in the morning
This is so simple and easy - only minimal cleaning. Perfect for me - a single guy who wants to start eating a little in the morning to get me morning energy. Love it - Thanks

Perfect egg no oil!
Perfect egg cooked with no oil, just what I wanted. I used a duck egg that was out of fridge 15min. I used luke warm water heated 45 seconds in 1000watt microwave. I added a little vinegar and poked the yolk as another reviewer suggested. I cooked it with lid on 43 seconds and let it sit a couple minutes. Half the yolk was runny which I think is perfect. Perfect the first try!

Wish I'd known about this year's ago
This takes a bit of experimentation, since the recommended cook time is going to depend on egg size, particularly if taken straight from the fridge, and the temperature of your tap water. That achieved, I now enjoy a perfect poached (jumbo) egg on toast every morning. 1. Cold tap water plus a few drops of vinegar, to minimize fragmentation of the white. 2. Egg in, straight out of the fridge, then yolk punctured with a small fork. 3. 80 sec in microwave (1,000W) with lid on. The experimentation relates to the times required for the individual circumstances.

Need to experiment to use
Instructions for use were not best, have to experiment to find the right pre-heat of water and cooking times. Once get times down works nicely. Plan to go through a few eggs to get to the right timing.

What! Exploding egg!
I followed the the instructions and essentially my egg was very raw or it was exploding. The recommended time made it explode…the slightly less time was a runny blob where the whites were gross and runny as well as the yolk. A cool concept but but doesn’t really work.

Eggcellent gadget, but room for improvement.
For a single egg, this Poacher is quicker and easier than the swirling water in a saucepan on the hob method. It uses less water so the water heats up quicker. You don't have to stand over it once you've put the egg in or watch for when the egg's done. The Poacher takes up less space than a saucepan which means the object to be washed up is smaller. It's small enough to be stored inside other objects, saving space. You can't see into the poacher to check progress, despite the almost transparent lid, as it steams up. I had to slightly adjust the microwaving times given in the instructions. The instructions are for Medium and Large size eggs. There's no need to remove the egg with a spoon as per the instructions, as the egg just slides out. No cooking spray needed. Easy to clean by hand but it also dishwashers (upper basket). I've also used the JJ poacher to cook single veg portions (cut up small), for which the colander is handy for draining. I like it when gadgets are multi-purpose. Ideally I'd like the Poacher to have a handle. Failing that, a wider encircling ridge at the top to give better grip. The lid knob could do with much being bigger and thus be easier to get hold of. The Poacher is also a bit pricey, the way Joseph Joseph products tend to be. None of these nigggles are deal-breakers.

It really works
I have tried many different egg poaching kitchen tools and none have been even satisfactory. BUT that all changed with Joseph Joseph's poacher. Preheating the water prior to poaching was the key. Very well thought out and executed. My only issue is that ever so often the lid shoots off when microwaving the egg and leaves egg everywhere. Wish the lid fit tighter on the poacher. Not sure how to remedy this.

Difficult to cook more than one egg at a time
The products looked good and I thought they would be easy to use - I had ordered 4. I then read some of the reviews and looked on the manufacturers website and realised it would be difficult to cook several eggs at one time. The manufacturers had in fact removed the details from their website where they gave information on how long to microwave more than one egg at a time. I returned the poachers.

Egg poacher
I usually like Joseph Joseph products, and although asthetically it is pleasing it just doesn't work. I followed the instructions, the egg sort of cooks but leaves the yolk on top and mostly overcooks it. I will go back to using a pan of water, was disappointed....
