Smaller than stated (it is actually 6" at its widest). Started to rust.
Great design, perfect size, but rusting makes it a no-go.

Fantastic little egg poacher - just one piece, so it's simple to use
This egg poacher is just like the one I've had for over 20 years. Somehow, I accidentally scraped a bit of the non-stick coating inside one of the cups on the old poacher, so I decided to buy this new one. I wash it by hand, as recommended, to clean the small bit of butter I always use in each cup, but otherwise it only needs to be wiped out. It has slots to insert a spoon handle to lift the poacher out of the pan, so no special tools needed. I just pop it into a small skillet with just enough water for it to float, add the eggs (I like a dot of butter on the bottom of each cup), cover with a lid, and simmer to get your preferred doneness - about 4 minutes for me.

This poacher is made of steel: IT RUSTS! Aluminum would make much more sense.
1. This product is nicely packaged. Anybody who's reluctant to buy products made in the PRC might be more inclined to buy a Taiwanese product, such as this. The design of this poacher is identical to that of other three-egg poachers which are made of aluminum, and, yes, this type of poacher works nicely in a shallow pan of hot water... BUT... 2. This poacher ** IS ** made of steel. (Amazon's product description says the poacher is "Made from carbon steel.") This poacher is coated with a non-stick coating, but the coating quickly wears away and the exposed steel rusts. Rusting may be exacerbated if vinegar is added to the water which is used to heat this poacher although vinegar helps by tending to cause any spilled egg albumin to congeal, and, for that reason, using vinegar seems to be a good idea when eggs are poached. Shouldn't this poacher have been made of aluminum, like other three-egg poachers of its type? 3. I'd NOT recommend this poacher due to its susceptibility to rust. Non-stick coating is probably ineffective. Egg albumin (egg "WHITE") can be expected to stick to any poacher, necessitating scouring, which will scrape off the "non-stick" coating. (Egg YOLK was used for well more than 1,500 years as the primary painting medium by artists, in part because of its durability! See Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tempera ) Aluminum can be scoured to leave a clean surface for cooking. The "cups" in this poacher can't be cleaned as thoroughly as the "cups" in an aluminum poacher of the same design. 4. With any 3-egg poacher of this type, I begin with a stainless steel pan which is only wide enough to accommodate the triangular poacher and which is about an inch deep. I then fill the pan with hot tap water to a depth of maybe 0.75 inch. I pour in some white vinegar, to congeal any albumin which spills from a "cup" of the poacher. I pour a little oil in each poaching "cup" which I intend to use for an egg. I use a soup spoon to spoon the "vinegar-infused" water from the pan into any "cup" which won't be used for an egg, in an attempt to assure that the poacher is evenly heated. I then lower the poacher into the pan of water and vinegar and I crack an egg into any cup I intend to use for poaching. Yes, covering the pan with a lid does tend to "finish" the poaching of the egg, probably because the top of the egg is bathed in steam while the lid covers the pan. It's also true that this type of poacher is easily and safely lifted from the pan in which the poacher is heated by use of a table knife which is inserted in one of the slots around the periphery of the poacher. This type of poacher design works well, but fabricating a poacher of this type from metal which can rust ** DOESN'T ** seem to be a good idea!

Works exactly as I wanted.
I use this for Eggs even for hard cooked eggs to put in salads or egg salad sandwiches. Love it! For breakfast I'll fix a 5 minute egg.

Simple and effective egg poacher
This is a simple but very effective egg poacher. I use a little olive oil to coat the inside of each cup to prevent sticking and the eggs slide right out. Each cup fits a 'large' egg the best. Any bigger and it may spill over the sides. I've used one exactly like this for many years until the non-stick coating began to wear away in a couple of spots. I liked it so much that I re-ordered the same one. I am very happy with this purchase. Update: It's now 4/19/20 and I'm updating my review. As I wrote, after many uses and cycles in the dishwasher, we noticed a little rust on some of the egg cups, so it was time to discard the poacher and move on to a replacement. For the relatively inexpensive price this particular poacher costs, and for the perfect poached eggs it makes, my husband wanted me to buy the same one again. My one issue with the poacher is that it only makes 3 eggs at a time. My husband and daughter are the poached egg lovers in the house and they each like 2 eggs, so the math doesn't work for the same breakfast unless I use 2 poachers. For that reason, I decided to check out other options on Amazon. However, after reading reviews for other poachers, I've concluded that "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". I'm going with my husbands suggestion to re-order and will buy 2 of them if I need to make more than three eggs at a time. Several suggestions I didn't mention in my original review that might be helpful.......... 1. Just a reminder..........that I did mention.........use some kind of fat (oil or butter) to coat the cups. That seems to be important for most egg poachers. You don't have to use a lot. 2. Placed the poacher, without the eggs, into a pan with about 1/2 - 3/4 in. of water. 3. 'Carefully' crack the eggs into each cup. If any of the eggs leaks into the water, once the cover is on, the water will boil up over the eggs. Still good, but not my favorite outcome. That is the reason I suggested NOT to use any eggs bigger than 'LARGE'. 4. I use a pan with a glass lid so I can watch the process. With the cover OFF, bring the water to a boil and then put the cover on. 5. Using a timer: From my experience, cooking time varies between 3 minutes - 3 minutes 20 seconds. My husband and daughter prefer runnier eggs, so I usually go with about 3 min. + 5 or 10 sec.s at most. 6. Remove the cover, put a fork in one of the oval holes to lift up the poacher with the eggs still inside. I hold the poacher with a paper towel and use a non-abrasive spatula to nudge the eggs right onto the toast. The best thing about this poacher is how consistent the eggs turn out!

Works great
I was a little concerned by some of the comments about cleaning and needing oil but that isn't correct. Using oil leaves a nasty (in my opinion) taste on the eggs not to mention degrading the nutritional value. As another reviewer noted the trick is NOT to try and clean it right away. Wait about 15 minutes and the residue will dry and form a flakey skin that you can easily peel off leaving the pan almost perfectly clean and needing only a quick wipe. I love poached eggs and this little pan makes them so easy to cook perfectly every time. I put a little bit of water (1") in a small frying pan, put in this insert, crack my eggs into the holes and then cover on low heat for 5 minutes. Perfect eggs every time. Recommend.

Perfect Poached Eggs
We bought this poacher a second time. It took several years, but we destroyed the non-stick coating on the first by putting it in the dishwasher. The eggs cook perfectly in 3 minutes and the cleanup, by hand, is quick and easy.

Product is not as advertised.
I followed the accompanying instructions on how to use this product. I lightly oiled the cups as specified. I broke a large egg into the first cup. It spilled out over the top creating a mess on my kitchen counter. After cracking the second egg into a cup and cleaning up the counter I cooked the eggs as specified. They seemed to be nicely done after 4 minutes but they would not slide out of the cups. I had to dig the eggs out of the cups thereby causing the yolks to break and creating another mess. Eating what was left after this nasty experience was not pleasant. I do not recommend this product to anyone.
