Worked as advertised, never had one break
Worked perfectly, have never had one break, seem stronger than most bits. Using metal to metal is machining: slow, steady patience is rewarded. I use a variable speed drill, very slow, and a rig to hold it steady. These worked perfect to remove a hardened steel bolt buried half an inch into a engine block. Stuffed hole with paraffin, used torch to heat up the bolt and the surrounding metal so the paraffin wicks into the threads, repeat two or three times, bolt eased out perfect.

The only good set I have found is made by DeWalt
Normally Irwin stuff is top quality, unfortunately, not so in this case, I had purchased 2 of these, had to return them. They suffer from excessive run-out or wobble, can't locate the drill point in the punch mark. It will drill a hole, but once in the hole the work will shake viciously because of the wobble. This same problem is common to other manufactures, unfortunately. The only good set I have found is made by DeWalt, which is short and stubby and made one piece. All the hex shank bits with the crimped on ends seem to have this problem, although any of the one piece designs are good. hope this helps, Tucker Birk.

Great Set
Bought this several months ago and have used it a lot more than I thought I would. Very sturdy case. Bits have gone through anything and everything I have put them on (wood, metal and plastic). Should last a long time. No pilot point. Set is sold as Hanson, but Irwin is the packaging.

Gets dull and chips immediately
After several use drilling 3/8" mild steel I noticed that I already have several bits with chipped ends. These bits get dull quickly too. Made in China. Would not buy again.

Bassackwards drill bits?
This is a great little tool to have if you ever break off a screw or small bolt. Just remember you can't use these in a cordless drill with a keyless chuck because putting pressure on the chuck in reverse automatically loosens the chuck. Yes, I've actually seen reviews where people said these didn't work because they kept falling out of the drill.

Great Bits; Cheap Education
I make no pretense to being a professional machinist, et cetera. In truth, pre-MBA, I was a scientist via mathematics. So, if your metric for relevance is related-professional-experience, give my review a skip. Indeed, I spent four years at a posh, New England prep-school, so, I even missed learning experiences such as "shop classes," ... among other things. Prior to these Irwin cobalt bits, I was of the, "crank up the (rotational) speed and hope for the best," school of metal drilling. Stupid. Watching (literally) these bits work provided a priceless, hands-on lesson in applied physics and physical metallurgy. Slow the rotational speed down (W-A-Y down), judiciously increase pressure (id est, PSI-loading), and watch ever longer spirals emanate from your successive drillings. Conversely, crank up the rotational speed, cook the bits, and complain about poor Chinese product molecular composition, drill bit fabrication, or, for something utterly inane, the packaging. I "cooked" the Irwin cobalt 1/4-inch bit and split the 3/8-inch. Fortunately, those two were the extent of my tuition costs. Despite the "handicaps" enumerated in the first paragraph, over the last twenty-five years, I have built eighteen proper -- with foundations and electrified (as in, "electrons," thank you) -- buildings, worked on heavy equipment (through 40-ton 'dozer), and burnt "miles" of welds. So, while I'm not "professionally" credentialed in the machining/building trades, I had been sought out to "fix" mechanical/"mechanical" problems of many folk who were. I was far from an utter rookie when the Irwin cobalts arrived; I am sure glad that they did. I'll buy more if and as needed.

Drills thru metal great!
Bought this to drill a bigger hole in my bike rack hitch so I could use it with a 5/8 inch pin. Drilled through it like butter. Very impressed how easy it was and look forward to using again in the future.

Cheap but they dull very quickly
I bought them knowing they probably weren't the best quality. Honestly, I wanted the case as much as anything and had had trouble finding a set like this with a case. After only a few uses the bits became very dull and almost useless. I drilled a total of 6 holes in some 1/16th weld steel and by the 4th or 5th hole the bit was so dull it wouldn't drill through the steel anymore. I'll keep the case and replace the bits with better quality.

Nice bits
I had to get these to do a natural gas conversion on a smoker all the bits looked to be well made and sharp when I looked in the package; they did what I needed and I had no issues with any of them. If you need a #51 drill bit I'd say these are good to use.

Single drill bit - (NOT 5) What a joke!
NOT A 5 PACK!!! I ordered this and it took forever to ship (Which wasn't a big deal in my situation) BUT ONLY A "SINGLE PACK" DRILL BIT ARRIVED, NOT THE 5 AS DESCRIBED AND SHOWN IN THE PICTURE. I'm sure the drill bit is good, but this has an entirely false description. I feel totally ripped off!

Good quality and good valve drill bits
Good value. Two drill bits in one. Great for thin materials, pilot holes, etc
