Great bit
This bit hogged through 1-5/8 stainless with ease. Use with plenty of oil and a good pilot and you’ll have no issues

Good bit
Used it to drill about 10 holes in my steel trailer deck and frame rails to mount a house with 5/8" bolts. I stepped it up to 1/2" first and these did a good job even in my 1/2" shank handheld drill. Will buy again if I need another size over the standard 1/2" bits

NOT A THREE PACK.
It stated in the description multiple times that it was a three pack but only one bit arrived. I could bought a Usa made bit with prime shipping for less but chose to spend a little more and have a few more drill bits but I ended up paying more for a bit made offshore. As far as quality its probably made of quality steel and did the job I needed it to do witch was drilling through an aluminum boss in order to tap for npt.

> NOT SO LONG
> Although the bit is nominally 12" long, it would be more correct to describe it as 2 3/4" long plus a 9 1/4 shank. Other long drill bits from other manufacturers that I've purchased have been about 9" of bit plus 3" of shank > To drill a 6" deep hole, with a drill with 9" of spiral grooves, you should pull the drill out to clear the spirals at least once (in order to minimize the potential of jamming, especially in hard or damp wood). But with the Irwin 62116, you would have to clear deep holes much more frequently, every 1" or so, and doing so would be essential, not just "good technique". If a long skinny drill (like this one) jams, it will almost certainly snap. > If you simply need to drill a less than 2" deep hole at a distance -- for example, drilling through the short side of a soft pine 2x4 to run cable -- then the Irwin 62116 bit should work adequately. The long shank (and short drill threads) might even be a good feature for this application, because the solid shank would be stronger. > The Irwin 62116 bit did NOT come in a plastic sleeve, as have other long bits from other manufacturers that I have purchased. Since I may only use such a drill once every 5 years, it is nice to have a protective plastic sleeve. A quick spray with WD-40 will protect such a drill from rust when you put it away in your plastic sleeve is a good idea. > MY EXPERIENCE -- I wanted to drill 6" deep holes into roofing beams to inject a termite treatment. The Irwin drill worked so poorly for this purpose that I eventually gave up, and instead used a standard drill, settling for 3--4" deep holes. > Click on “Stoney” just below the product title to see my other reviews. Good value for the price and fast shipping
Seems like good quality for the price. I used it to drill anchor bolts in 3x3x3/16 angle iron they seem to hold up pretty good

Quality Bit at Good Price
I needed a bit for cutting two 5/8" holes in 3/8" steel for a farm implement and found this one on Amazon at good price. It performed better than I expected. The IRWIN bit is made of M-7 high speed steel for extended life. It arrived sharp and in its own package for storage. I set the recommended drill speed as close as possible for the 5/8" bit diameter and material (steel) according to the table on my drill press. A pdf version of a table can also be downloaded from IRWIN that includes the bit sharpening angle. The bit moved easily through the 3/8" steel with no chatter or binding using my old drill press with manual belt speed adjustment. For the novice, it may be instructive to read up on the basic rules of drilling metal by searching on-line the words drilling metal etc. Some advance reading can keep one from making mistakes in judgement since the rules for drilling metal can be counterintuitive; such as not using cutting oil for small bits at low rpm; or pressing harder (rather than lighter) to reduce tip heating by generating continuous spiral cuttings rather than chips. For safety, wearing eye protection and mounting the workpiece securely are always musts.

Great drill bit
I bought this bit to drill out the hitch receiver for my bike rack. The material was 2” thick solid aluminum. The bit performed perfectly, in that it did not stray from perpendicular as the bit travelled through the metal.

Works great
I use this to drill wiring passages through solid guitar bodies. Start at the neck pocket, through 1 2 3 pickup cavities, then to the control cavity. 12" is just the right length for the guitars I build. Good quality and decent price for a somewhat specialty item.

Not as advertised
Description shows 3 bits. Pictures show 3 bits. But only 1 arrived. Past reviews have had the same discrepancy.
