Replaced one older version and everything fit perfectly. Great item!
This is a great clothesline and the one it replaced was thrown away with a working mechanism only the lines were rotted but I had trouble replacing them so I just ordered a new one. Thanks they are great!

Best birthday gift
We had an older one and this fit right where the other was. I love hanging out my laundry, and it works perfectly. Everything was tight and no sagging.

don't waste your money on this higher priced product !
This clothes line dryer is same product as the cheaper one on Amazon. Same manufacture but at a higher price. I thought I was getting a more metal not plastic product ! This is not worth the extra cost. Go with less expensive it is just as good. do not recommend this

This can be used in unexpected places.
I dye wool all year round, so I installed this on a side porch where I can hang my wool to dry. I can also take it down easily during heavy snows since I want to protect this marvelous piece of equipment for the years to come.

UPDATED: Nice to have once you get used to it
UPDATE: I added a couple of stars now that I've had the clothesline in use for a few weeks. All of the original review (below) still applies, but I like the functionality. I wanted a clothesline that I could retract after each use--NOT seasonally. It's kind of a hassle to extend it 15 feet, and walk back 15 feet to turn the locking knob before hanging clothes. Then, when laundry is dry and down, it's the same hassle in reverse. For me, being able to make clotheslines more or less disappear between uses is worth it, so Four Stars it is. The build quality on this retractable clothesline seems decent, although I'm leery of the plastic keyhole mounting brackets that the whole washload is going to depend on. The instructions are some of the worst I've seen. I'm a pretty handy homeowner, but the tiny, blurred drawings, small white-on-black font, and tri-lingual text were inadequate. I fumbled around more than you'd think possible on a simple installation involving only 4 bolts. It's impossible to mark pilot holes directly through the mounting brackets, so you have to measure a LOT. One-eighth inch off, and you will not be able to hang the unit. Trust me: four wrong holes in the siding of my house now attest to this difficulty. Note the measurements before buying: this thing is huge. The main unit (where the clotheslines roll up) needs a minimum of 34 horizontal inches of wall or surface to mount, PLUS a few inches of clearance beyond that, left and right, to operate the tighten and release knobs. The metal receiving bracket (the bit that goes on the far wall to hold the extended clotheslines in place) doesn't actually accept the bar when bolted flush to its surface--there isn't enough room and you will have to improvise. Note that for anyone much under six feet tall (I'm 5'10") all of this will be happening while you're on a ladder. Adjustments to the tautness of the individual lines are so cryptic and hard to reach that I haven't succeeded yet. It's up, I've got a few clothes hanging on it, and it's not awful, but the difficult installation and adjustment process has been a real star-subtracter.

Pandemic Present to myself - I should have bought this YEARS ago
Everyone knows that air drying will make your delicate clothes last longer. I have been struggling with a broken down rolling clothes rack for years. When the weather was nice, I would drag that thing onto the deck so that the clothes would dry faster. The rack is not very big so on big laundry days the clothes would still have to come back inside to dry under a ceiling fan. I (and the rolling rack) finally reached a breaking point this pandemic. "Buy it!" my husband said. "It will be your birthday present." I probably could have put it in myself, but that did not feel very birthday present-ish, so I had a professional install it. I did have to retie the knots of the laundry line so that all five lines have a similar tension (easier said than done). On laundry days the clothes lines stretch across my deck at railing height. Now my clothes dry in the breeze that blows over the potted herbs and plants. I only use a portion of the clothes line length because my deck is not that wide, but it is oh-so-much better than before. It makes me happy every time I use - Thank you honey! Sadly we won't get enough sun to use this much in the winter so I still have to use that broken down rolling rack on bad weather days. I think I know what I am getting for Christmas!

AMAZING! (please read if you have slack lines)
I saw a lot of reviews saying they had to get a return or replacement for certain lines not being taught. Good news is, you can adjust this. Image 3 shows you can take the cap off one side and image 4 shows you can slide out the back. This gives you access to the line to tighten. We had to do this with the 3 centre lines and now it works perfectly! Image 1 shoes it set up between our shed and fence. This I'd great if you're looking to save space and stow something away. This is even better if you have boy dogs that pee on a washing line pole and kill the grass around it like we do. Image 2 is what it looks like all stowed away. I can't recommend this product enough, it really is exactly what we were after. I hope this review helps some people and avoids them wasting time returning items and seeking refunds.

Nice solid unit
Nice unit, we have it mounted in a basement room. It’s easy to extend out, our room is approximately 20ft. Good spacing between lines, solid unit easily hold a load of laundry or two.

Great clothes line.
I love this. Plenty of space for hanging clothes, and I get my yard back when it is not in use. The clothes line is great. The pole however, is a short term solution at best.

lasted 2 years
Very strong and easy to set up. Can be set up anywhere inside or out. Way more drying line than my old umbrella style. 2 year update Plastic mounting bracket broke on one side Had to repair with metal strapping and tie wraps Still usable and worth the $45 I paid in July of 2013 If I get another 2 years out of it I will be happy

Best Retractable line so far..
This is the second retractable line we have purchased and now into it's 4th year, is holding up extremely well. Easy to install and when you wear down some of the line, it is very easy to cut the old length off and have lots left to put back on. Great product.
