Retractable Clothes Line
Seems to be OK. I will update the review if things worsen. Seems to made appropriately for a $12 clothes line. It replaced a 12-15YO SunLine. If this goes south, I found a few of the older US made SunLine ones available. It works, the wind around piece for the cord, not to retract but to secure, is just two extensions of plastic instead of a full circle. My Wife will be the judge as she uses it often. For the money it’s not bad. I had to drill a new hole as it didn’t match the mounting holes of the SunLine.

Please note: This review is for the Honey-Can-Do DRY-01113 40-Foot Indoor/Outdoor Retractable Clothesline. Some reviewers are reviewing the clothes pin bag, which is also listed at the top, others are reviewing the retractable clothesline. Unfortunately, since the products are listed on the same page, these reviews are an odd hodgepodge of information, and it's difficult to discern how many stars the product you're buying has actually received. My review: Aside from being a great price, this product also feels very well-made. It was easy to install and it is easily removable in case we decide that we don't want to leave it outside, as some other reviewers have done. The retractable cord is plastic coated, so it should avoid rust and last a long time. It's difficult to get the line tight enough that there isn't a large amount of slack in the middle, even with the part you wrap the cord around at the bottom. My solution was just to install it high. It also helps if you continue pulling the slack even after you've wrapped the cord around the piece on the bottom, as it will continue to tighten.

Good enough, but in no way great.
I hang almost all my clothes, so having a long clothesline was important to me, but there's nowhere in my house where that amount of rope won't be an inconvenience, so I attached this to one wall of my basement and either run it across both the storage room and the laundry room, or loop it back and forth between shelves in the storage room. I use an S hook (old shower curtain hook) to attach it to whatever I can, or loop it around a pole and attach it to itself. There are two major flaws to this design. 1) The cleat you wrap the line around to keep it from pulling out is too small. If I loop it once then it's loose enough to pull more line out, making my clothes sag to the floor. If I loop it around twice the second loop usually falls off because the cleat is too small to properly hold it. The line is thick enough that it can't get near the base of the cleat, the gap between them is too small for it to fir properly. It's really cheap molded plastic so chances are it'll probably break off soon enough and I can attach a higher quality one. 2) The line itself almost feels stretchy. I'll pull it tight and hold it in place, and once I throw clothes over the line it'll sag, even without any extra slack. I can't verify whether it's actually stretching on not, but no matter how tight I try to make it there always is extra give. Overall, it's a good enough product for now. It's definitely worth the price since nothing on mine has snapped quite yet (it's been about 3 months) but no part of it (except the plate that screws onto the wall) feels sturdy, so I'm wondering how much longer it'll last. If something breaks on the inside I have no idea whether it can be considered fixable with a different line.

Has so much potential but just falls short.
I thought this would do a good job helping to dry items not destined for the dryer. Functionally, it does what it's suppose to do. However, there are some issues that should be noted if you are contemplating on purchasing this item. First, you need to make sure there is an appropriate place to secure both the unit and the end of the cord. You can use either a hand held power driver to secure the screws or just good ol' elbow grease. That's all it takes. Now the flaw in the design; no matter how taunt you make the cord, it will always eventually droop due to the weight of the items being dried. We're not talking about jeans, jackets or blankets but more in the realm of shirts, shorts and underoos. It will eventually droop. There is an anchor point located at the bottom the unit that you can wrap the cord to lock it but no matter how many times you wrap it, it will droop. The flaw lies in the the cord, it's some sort of plastic nylon cord that will stretch under the weight of wet clothes. Unfortunately, Honey-Doesn't-Perform well under pressure. If you are just drying handkerchiefs, photos, silk scarves, it will perform beautifully. Anything else...be alert and don't get clothes-lined literally. I may end up going back to my bungee cord system.

Such a great product
I have had this outdoor retractable clothesline for over 20 years hanging on my patio - I might also add, I live in Arizona and it has survived our very hot sunny weather. The casing was looking a little weathered after so may years, even though the retractable device was still working just fine. I decided to see if it was still available, needless to say, it was. I use it to hang rugs after washing, lawn furniture cushions, etc., and of course to hang towels after swimming. I put up 2 hook-ups, one about 7 foot between the pilars on the patio and one across the yard when I needed more space for hanging. This is a great gadget to have. If you don't want it out when your not using it, it slides off the screws as easy as can be and you can put it out of sight if you don't want it hanging up all the time, but like I said, I left it up all year long and for 20 plus years.

Good enough
It works fine. It currently holds 3 pool towels and 3 bathing suits. It doesn’t sag at 12ft tension.

Retractable linen line.
Up and running same day and linen blowing in strong wind. Very good dry. Bought two just in case line breaks but so far holding up to gale force wind.

Same as another user, only good for holding paper sheets.
I installed this and extended it fully across the yard to the hook on a tree. It's around 30ft away and this is advertised as 40 feet so you would expect it to work. As we started just putting on few items, the line severly sagged. So we pulled up the slack, added more laundry and it sagged again...tightened it up and snap. So what I did , should of been done in the first place in the design of this. I replaced all the cable with 1/16 through 3/32 vinyl covered braided cable. Recoiled the entire spool with it and now it works like a charm. No sagging and has the proper strength for a laundry line. The coiler is an okay design, they just cheaped out using the improper size cable to be able to use it for an actual laundry line, unless perhaps you have it on a balcony.

Not for me
Unless you have a space of exactly 40 feet this is useless as there is no locking mechanism for shorter lengths. Because of this when putting clothes on the line it sags greatly and bedding drags on the ground. Only alternative is to put it so high up you will need a ladder to reach it.
