Very good cold resistance, not excellent, but no glove is. Inconsistent quality.
To preface this review, I’m a road cyclist and in good weather I ride about 200 miles a week, give or take. In the winter that dropped to 120-150. I ride pre-dawn, so that means temps are consistently in the teens. I did probably 15 rides this winter in single digits, including two 20 mile rides at 3°. I spent the mid to late fall trying to find gloves good enough to keep the wind, created by my speed traveling through the air, at bay while still allowing my hands to operate the brakes and gears. All gloves failed to do this. Mitts that go over the bars (hoods/drops) were the only solution. Don't waste your money buying gloves if you are committed to riding through the winter. Get big mitts that fit over your handle bars. You can buy them on Amazon. With that in mind, here’s the review of these gloves! I bought these on my quest to beat the wind created by me going through the atmosphere on longer rides in the winter. I tried a lot of gloves, and of them all, these did the best but ultimately still failed. These are still really good at keeping wind off your hands though. I was able to use them well enough for 20 mile rides of nearly an hour and a half in mid twenty degree weather. My hands got cold but were still usable. These would not work for longer or colder rides, but no glove I've tried will. These gloves achieve better results than others by being thicker with more layers around the finger tips. This does reduce your ability to manipulate road bike shifters and MTB trigger shifters, almost to the point of being unusable, but not quite. For the simple reason that these gloves do allow longer rides in lowish temps, they are worth the price to me. I can get away with not using bar mitts in the mid to upper 20s for short periods of time, understanding that my hands will still get cold. The fleece liners that come with these gloves are really nice on their own, just as a general fleece glove. Good points for that! They are a little thick as a liner so I actually used another fleece glove as a liner that is thinner and more form fitting. Many of the negatives you read in other reviews are true. Fit and finish isn't great. There are some loose threads. Quality is inconsistent between my pair. One thumb is far more tight than the other. The padding isn't padding like the gel pads you find on other cycling gloves, but rather just thicker fabric. Not great for longer rides but no where near a deal breaker for me on either road bike or MTB. These won'r be water resistant. I'm not sure about the durability because I only used them hard a handful of times. Dexterity is limited because of the thickness. I am pretty consistently in the medium glove size bracket and these fit as expected. After owning and using these a bit I would buy them again. For short to medium rides not below the mid to upper 20s these should be fine, especially if your average speed is on the lower side. Like all gloves, they will succumb to the atmosphere rushing against you at high speed in cold temps for long durations of time. Ultimately, if you want to beat low temps at fast speeds on long rides, you want bar mitts.

They work better for me than any other cold weather glove I've owned
Currently I do daily rides of roughly 9 miles with 900 feet of climbing in an hour and 15 minutes. When temperatures get below 50 F, I've been having a hard time keeping my hand comfortable. These gloves, with the liner gloves work better below 50 F than any other gloves I've used. I have at least half a dozen pairs of cold weather gloves I've used for winter bicycling. Above 50 F they work well without the liners. With the liners they are a bit tight, but not tight enough to constrict blood flow to my fingers. I also worried that the extra thickness with the liners in the gloves might cause me problems while riding, but that was not a problem..

Tearing apart, but good customer service.
Update 4/22/16: Following the separation of the outer glove from the cuff I contacted Planet Bike. They asked for pictures, through a few emails they finally agreed to send a brand new pair of gloves. Pretty good customer service. Update: All of the below information still holds true. The glove performance is great, however, my gloves are now becoming separated where the glove meets the wrist cuff. In other words, it's tearing apart. What's worse is that I purchased this during the so-called holiday shopping season and can now no longer return them, as of January 31st. I purchased these gloves as a solution to cold weather riding. I ride in temperatures as low as 35 degrees for up to 2 hour rides at average speeds between 15 and 19 mph. The gloves that I had been using are Dakine Scout gloves that I usually use for hikes in freezing and snowy weather. Those gloves (Dakine) are a bit big and awkward when trying to shift STI levers and do make my hands too warm to ride in 40+ degree weather. The PB Borealis seem like they'll do a good job, I like that they have an inner glove that is removable. Also, the palms of the glove have a nice non-slip grippy texture that is helpful when riding on the hoods or out of the saddle. Performance: I've ridden twice while wearing them. The first ride was for 70 minutes at an average of 16 mph in 37 degree weather. These gloves kept my hands warm enough that I would have been fine for another hour, or longer. I would not say that my hands were toasty warm, but they were warm enough and only got chilled on a descent where I reached top speed of 28 mph. I suppose that much longer and my hands would have been cold, but easily bearable. I don't expect any glove to keep my hands toasty for 2 or 3 hours in 37 degree weather. My second ride was for an hour at an average of 17 mph in 41 degree weather. The ride was relatively flat. During this ride my hands actually got a bit warm during a slight 1 mile incline. My hands were pretty warm by the end of the ride. Third ride: 36 miles over 2.5 hours. Temperature began at 35 degrees and rose to 41 degrees, however, the windchill for the first part of the ride was significant. These gloves kept my hands warm the entire time! I will update this portion of the review when the weather dips to near freezing. However, I imagine that they will perform just fine in temperatures as low as 30 degrees. Fit: I purchased the extra large size. I believe my hands are between a large and extra large. My left hand measured around my palm (not including thumb) are about 22 cm. From the crotch of my index and middle finger, my middle finger is about 8.7 cm long; my index finger is about 7 cm in length. My ring finger is 8 cm, and my pinky is 5.8 cm. The ring finger on this glove fits perfectly, however, there is a flaw in the index finger. They have made it the same length as the ring finger which means the index finger glove is about 2 cm too long which means there is a bit of extra material when trying to shift. The combined ring/pinky finger fits just about right. Except for the odd index finger length of the glove, it fits about as I had expected. Most other lobster claw gloves have the combined pairs of fingers. I like to have my index and ring finger free for shifting and grip adjustments while riding. For that reason these gloves are worth it and I would consider them a good value/performance piece of kit.

Good gloves for winter biking.
I was looking for some warm gloves for winter biking. I have commuted to work a few times with theses gloves and am pleased with how warm and dry they keep my finders. Unlike standard mittens, the lobster style works well to keep the fingers warm while also allowing me to shift or brake effectively. I have cycled in -10C temperture and my hands were toasty warm. They come with a removable liner and I found it was best to separate them from the glove to air or dry them. I had read that they size small and I agree. I'm usually an XL but got a XXL and they fit great. They have velcro cuffs which work well at keeping the cool out. Looking forward to lots of winter biking thanks to these great gloves!

Disappointing buy
Not a great buy. The build quality is actually quite good it seems, but enough cold gets through to the fingers with the insulation insert in. I ordered medium and there is roomto allow warm air to flow well inside the glove, but however it is leaking outside cold air the index finger especially stays cold. I should note this is on cold, windy days. On milder days with no wind my fingers stayed warm, but that's pretty useless as I don't really need the gloves on mild days. I have much cheaper gloves that work a lot better than these do. I do not recommend them.

they are great, and fit perfectly
Had a pair of these originally purchased in 2003. They lasted 11 years and I see no reason why these won't last as long. These are slightly different on the outside with more reflective piping. They now have a second glove inside. If you intend to use with this internal glove, I would suggest you order a size larger, as the glove is a tich too tight WITH the internal glove. However, they are great, and fit perfectly, with that internal glove removed and I do not see the need to use the internal glove as the "outers" are insulated enough for me. I recommend this product.

Bien mais fait petit
Conforme à mes attentes mais fait petit! J’ai dû prendre une taille plus grande qu’à l’habitude. (medium au lieu de small)
