Really love this popcorn popper

I didn't really expect to be able to make movie-theater popcorn, but our popcorn is now actually BETTER. We're using premium Flavacol (no artificial colors etc), and Snappy coconut popping oil. (We tried the cheaper versions of both of those, and they were great also, but now we can eat popcorn knowing that it's a little bit better for us; we did have to adjust the amount of flavacol, because the premium seems a bit less salty, but your mileage may vary.) This was definitely a great purchase, and the stainless steel components and glass door seem like they're going to last forever. (there are gaps around the glass door because heat needs to be able to escape, but normally kernels don't fly out until you open it and it's all jammed up against the door.) This is great, just get it!

Not a bad popcorn machine

Doesn’t come with instructions on how to put it together but does say how to use it. It’s very easy to use, just hard to assemble the part that makes the popcorn. I would’ve liked to see instructions on how much popcorn and oil I can put but doesn’t doesn’t come with the manual either.

No instructions book assembly

What I didn't like about my order is the fact that it didn't come with any instructions or book to explain the details on how to assemble it. Other than that, it's okay.

It’s meh

The front tray falls out and so does popcorn I have used it about 30 times still smells and tastes like metal. Not really cool

Good Machine, Great Value

Bought this for the office, and it has worked great. Way cheaper than I expected it to be, and it was easy to assemble.

Works well, but annoying to use and clean.

The results are good once you have a recipe dialed in, the one that comes with has no flavor. It is not at all easy to clean, butter and water splatter on all sides, the bottom is tough to clean without making a mess on your table. The pot up top has to be cleaned every time, and they have it rotated where the openings have a metal bracket in the way so you have to try to reach around a bracket and clean it through a 4" or so opening, then the other side of the bracket to clean that side out. You need to add butter and kernels to the pot that is hot, and all metal which when combined with the bracket can make it a pain to do. It works great for popping corn, but designed terribly for those doing the popping and cleaning. I have tried several others and they all seem to suffer from just copying each others poor designs. I would still recommend this to someone wanting a home machine, I just to highlight the downsides to you can make a decision for yourself.

Works like a commercial machine

I bought this machine to Replace a Small one from Another company. This was twice the price, but if you’re looking for the look and performance of “Movie theater popcorn “ this is it. The popcorn tastes great and the real glass and stainless steel construction are a nice touch. The kettle is Easily removed for simple Cleaning. The 8 ounce capacity makes a ton of popcorn. One complaint - the tip Out door at the bottom- it’s just held in with little tabs, so when you close it, if you’re not paying attention, you’ll remove the door instead of closing it. If not for that, this would be 5 stars.

A pretty good little popcorn maker

I've had this popcorn maker for a few months now, so here's my honest review of how well it has worked. The first few batches that I made were terrible. It turns out that the manual for this popcorn maker has a pretty bad typo--it states that a maximum of around 1 tablespoon of oil should be used per one cup of kernels, which is greatly under-oiled. It resulted in many unpopped kernels and poor tasting popcorn. I found another chart on the Great Northern website that states 1/3 cup of oil should be used, and that worked perfectly. I did not have issues with temperature that other people have complained about. Both thermostats inside my kettle had some white RTV on their adjustment screws holding them firmly in place--which hopefully prevented the issue with the screws getting out of adjustment during transit. Or maybe I was just lucky. I did have to disassemble the kettle to fix the spinning arms in the kettle when it first arrived. In my unit, the arms were bent upwards at the edges and didn't do a good job of stirring all of the kernels. Once I bent them back down, popping was much more successful. I'd say that with proper oil and the fixed stirring rod, I get around 90% (maybe more) kernels popped. I agree with others that cleaning the glass is a bit of a pain. It's a tight fit with the kettle in such a small popper. You'll have to unhook the kettle to clean on the right side and back glass. Also, kernel husks do get lodged in the space between the bottom and the glass, which is a little ugly to look at, but something I've gotten used to. This unit comes with three reusable plastic popcorn tubs. The reusable aspect is really nice. However, from their first use, the red paint on the outside of the tubs started to rub off in places exposed to popcorn oil (anywhere I touched the outside of the tubs with my fingers. After a few uses/washes, the tubs were just smeared with red ink that was wearing off. I used some vegetable oil and paper towels to rub the remaining ink off of the outside of the containers. They still work fine, but are simply white now. I pop with Snappy butter flavored oil and Flavorite salt. With both, the popcorn tastes just like the local AMC theater sells. I put a few kernels into the kettle with the oil and wait until they pop before adding the rest of the kernels, which helps get optimal yield.

Size matters

We are a popcorn family….I have owned various popcorn poppers….including a smaller version of the ‘kettle’ popper….this baby is a great size for me….not a lot of waste, or unpopped product, heats fairly quickly and there’s a good even pop in the kernels…downside is you have to pay attention to the pop cycle…once it’s completed you have to dump the rest pretty quick or you’ll get some burnt corn….and some smoke in your room….small price to pay for this bad boy. Looks great too!!

Happy popcorn eaters

Excellent purchase! Works great, keeps popcorn warm, easy to clean. Only issue is that the bulb broke while cleaning on second use. Probably a faulty bulb. Family of 6 here and the pot size is perfect to feed everyone with a single popping.

The maker itself is fantastic quality all metal and glass, the popcorn it makes is perfect, since Christmas I've made 10 batches of popcorn and all of them were great.

Just do it. Its worth it. You won't be disappointed

Just used it for the first time today. Super easy set up, and clear instructions. It worked perfectly and made a generous amount of the best popcorn I think I've ever had! Seriously. I bought the flavacol and the Wabash valley farms coconut oil as well. They are a superstar trio. I had really high expectations and it surpassed them. You won't be disappointed. EDIT: It's been over a year. I use this machine weekly, and have used it for events as well. It's a wonderful machine. I now only use normal costco coconut oil and the flavocol. Winning combo. Everyone loves it. Its unfortunate that the ratings are effected by those that say they buy it exclusively for schools or fundraising, then complain about the size. If it's meant to make an income, you need to spend the money for the machine that would be better suited for that. This one can put it out, but is not meant for commercial use. Bottom line I LOVE this machine. Works great, easy to maintain and makes the best popcorn ever in just minutes.

Very good quality popcorn machine

This popcorn machine is very nice. Some buyers mentioned the door has a gap, that's true and is a design oversight. I had to move the magnet further back for the door to close properly by unscrewing the magnet on one side. The kettle takes getting used to (removing and installing it) it doesn't go in and out very easily - in part because the kettle has to be installed sideways instead of frontal installation like larger machine for this type of kettle. Make no mistake this machine pops popcorn very well providing instructions are followed and good quality popcorn is used. Cleaning is a breeze because of the high grade material used for the glass and the large kettle size makes it easy to clean the inside. I had a 2.5oz machine and 'glass' was made of plastic and was impossible to clean. I do recommend this machine. The look is very nice, professional and I'm happy with it, price paid 201$ CAD.
