She seemed to like me doing it
She was 12 years old when I adopted her from the shelter, and had been brought in terribly matted, so she had been shaved. The mats were too severe. As she grew her fur back, with my assortment of grooming aids, I really didn’t get much loose fur off her, and with the long tined comb, did get small clumps of knotted fur, and she also pulled those knots out. But she didn’t like being groomed, and I have the bite and scratch marks to show for it. Even at that, she immediately comes back to me purring away as I sought out bandages. But recently, I found that she developed thick mats close to the skin, which are a real problem to get out, without risking cutting her. I did manage to get some of them, but then decided to see how this deMatter would work. To my surprise, she was real accommodating, and the second picture is some of the fur I got off with only a few strokes that would not have been removed by other combs and brushes I have, and I have an assortment of grooming aids. The first picture is her in all her fluffiness. The real challenge will be if she will let me get the mats from her chest area, as there are some real tough ones there. But this deMatter is so simple to use, and goes through her thick fur so easily that I have hopes that she will allow me to get those mats out. Otherwise, it is to the vet and $25 per 15 minutes of grooming. It is easy to set the depth of the deMatter. In edit: One of my long haired cats get thick mats, but they are easy to comb out. I found that if one combs against the lay of the fur, grabbing the mat, it quickly removes the mat. Again, they are not tight to the skin. So I ruffle up her fur to raise the mats, comb against the lay of the fur, and they are removed quickly. A few mats gone, some petting, and then a few more and that way less first aid required for me.

Works for small mats but not larger
This dematting tool DOES work on the smaller mats in our long haired black cat but our cat did not respond well to having his fur tugged to get larger mats out. I don't blame him for getting grumpy with me when I tried going after the larger mats. If I had a big knot in my hair I would be howling in pain if the only way to get the knot out was to yank it out! For the larger mats I just gave up and used a human beard trimmer with the guard on and shaved off the bigger mats in his fur. He was antsy about the noise of the trimmer but he never scratched or tried to bite me so if God forbid he ever gets larger mats in his fur again I will just use the trimmer so he isn't in pain from having his fur tugged. He's our first long haired cat so we're new to how to deal with long haired cats. I also hope to get him professionally groomed in the spring before hot weather hits so he doesn't have as much of an issue.

works well and has a cool name
Furminator does a good job of getting knots and excess fur out of my long-haired cat. He is not a fan but he tolerates it. The short-hair cat loves it for some reason. Even though she doesn't need much brushing, she insists on getting Furminated every time I brush the big boy. So 5 stars-- I like it and the cats do too.

Cat that hates being brushed lets me use this!
My long haired cat will not let us brush him, ever.. and we have tried several different brushes. Finally I decided we need to find something to remove the mats easier and just hold him down to get them if we had to. Well, the first time we used this, my daughter held him and he squirmed and whined and I removed one mat. Let him go after that to not overwhelm him. Next day tried again, got another mat and let him go.. only he stayed.. he let me remove 2 more patiently. 2 days later, my daughter was petting him and felt a mat and asked me to hand her this tool. As soon as I grabbed it HE RAN OVER TO ME. It is like he can tell how much better he feels and knows that it is worth it! I'm so happy with this purchase and wish I would have bought it years ago. I did however try to get one on his belly, and he was not happy and ran off. I guess we will keep working toward that sensitive area.

Grabs a lot of undercoat!
Fits in my hand easily with a comfortable grip. Grabs a lot of undercoat in a short amount of time. In just a minute or less, on my pom I had a Cottonball size ball of fur from him. This was recommended to me by our groomer because my 11 year old pomeranian has a very dense coat. (Literally feels like he's wearing a polar fleece hoodie) He's groomed approx every 8 weeks and they use this on him EVERY time! It's important to know that you need to detangle your pet FIRST!! Be sure you're not using it over matted areas. Comb those out first Use a favorite regular dog brush before using this. The Furminator only needs quick strokes in the direction the fur grows. This is NOT for long stroke brushing. It grabs an insane amount of undercoat which is just hanging in there anyways. Your dog will be uncomfortable if you take to long of strokes with this as it will pull. Otherwise it's very good at getting the job done. Can be used on short hair dogs too. Has an adjustable height option but be VERY careful. Your dog will hate you if you use this too far down into their coat and cut or scratch them with it. I do not recommend this being used by kids under age 15 unless you're sure your kids are very well informed on how to use it. Definitely not for kids under 10. This reaches deeper than any other tool I've ever used and works wonders on my pomeranian. If you've got a pomeranian, golden retriever, husky, malamute, chow or any dog with a similar coat thickness or fluff level, this will help greatly between grooming. I highly recommend Furminator predicts but especially this.

Fantastic. Almost like magic.
This thing is off the charts amazing. My poor cat who is considered a short-hair does have quite a long, thick coat. She hates being brushed and has put on weight so she has trouble grooming. We're on that with diet and exercise, but in the meantime she has these massive mats that she's having trouble getting rid of at the base of her back and she won't let me go near them. When she's able she takes care of business on her own, but it's not as frequent as it should be and the mats just keep coming. This product glides through them. I couldn't believe my eyes. Within seconds I had a tennis ball size amount of mats that it removed. She won't stand for it long and it does allow you to be very gentle, but over time I think this will be a magic solution. I would highly, highly recommend this product.

¡Excelente producto!
