real black sand, very soft

I brought two bags for my planted fish tanks. After washing the sand until the water is relatively clear, I was able to add to my water-filled tanks with out too much murkiness. After one night the water clarity has not been better. The sand is fine grained and very soft. i did a lot researches before settling on this brand. I am very glad i did. It is real black sand, not sand coated with some black coating!

Love it!!

It’s soft, and great. My bearded dragon went from tiles to sand. This sand slips through your hand, so there shouldn’t be problems with impaction. My beardie loves being on the sand.. she used to hate being in her tank. Now she goes in on her own.

Tried a new sand, I wont get this one again.

I usually get the calcium fortified sands so as to avoid impacting my geckos when they inevitably eat the sand while chasing the crickets. This does not have that. My biggest issue with is it it seems the granules very in size, kind of mixed chunky vs sandy bits. The bigger bits feel sharp to me, like if i pinch some between finger and thumb and rub them together its not comfortable at all. The main reason i went with this one is because it came in better packaging. Every time i order the bags they always come Ripped and sand everywhere AMAZON! Figure out a better way to package and ship bags of lizard sand xD

FOR AQUARIUMS: WASH, WASH, & WASH AGAIN!

This is exactly what I needed for my aquarium! It is very fine grain size and is very black with a little bit of natural sparkle to it. 20 lbs gave me just over an inch of coverage in my 20gal aquarium. It really makes me artificial plants pop and under a blue LED will make my gfp axolotl look great! Fair warning, if you are using this as aquarium substrate, wash this sand at least 3 times! I ordered 20 lbs of this as substrate for my axolotl tank and washed it in a 5 gal bucket until the water ran clear. I let it settle, then washed it again. Then I transferred it to my aquarium and 48h later, I'm still waiting for the dust to settle/get filtered out of the water column. It's common for sand to be "dusty" but this stuff definitely needs a little extra washing before it's ready for aquatic use (but it's not marketed as aquarium sand and once it's been washed clean it'll be prefect so I'm not docking any stars). TLDR : Great value for price, nice dark color with some sparkle, wash multiple times if using in aquariums

Super dark!

This brand was one of the more affordable online. Considering how dark it is, I would consider it a fantastic value. I did also buy a "red" pack from the same seller. Notice I put red in quotes- 'nough said. But the black! The black is great! It doesn't appear to bother the bearded dragon. I understand there is some skepticism regarding the safety of sand for this species, as well as other terrarium inhabiting critters. While I certainly am not a biologist or anything related, and it's not even my lizard, I would say the most reasonable practice is to monitor your pet responsibly. I know it's just a spider, but I assume you can tell when the thing is upset. I would also like to point out that if sand was the greatest enemy to bearded dragons, then they surely would not live in the Australian desert.

Too fine for hamster

Bought this to use for my robo hamsters cage and I found it too be a little too fine and dusty. I’m sure it’s not the worst but you’re honestly better off buying a big pack of kids play sand much better value and much safer I think.

MUCH better than Komodo!

I use this for my hamster. I initially tried KOMODO sand, however it was INCREDIBLY dusty. I kept washing the KOMODO sand, however after letting it dry, it still left a film of white dust on your fingertips. Whilst this sand is also VERY fine, it's INCREDIBLE! No dust! No residue on your fingers after. Definitely recommend this for hamsters.

Leopard gecko.

Bought this for my leopard geckos tank. It covered the floor completely ( 3ft x 1ft) my only quarms are... When the package arrived the bag had split and the poor amazon driver was trailing sand all over when bringing it to my door, also it doesn't heat up well so on the heated side of my tank there is a very thin layer as the heat just doesn't get a through enough. PS. I am totally aware people reccomend not to use sand as a substrate for geckos as they lick everything, I've had the sand in for 3 months and yes he did lick it the first day but I've never seen him do I since and he is fed from a dish so there's no way he can ingest it whilst eating.

Bag was damaged

Bag was damaged but box delivered in was undamaged. Sand leaked in the package and made a lovely trail through my house. Served its purpose with lots to spare though so no massive loss just an inconvenience.

Hamster loves it

Great sand for the hamster. He likes to dig and bathe in this. A lot so will last a while.
