This is my third unit and I love them but this one was bad from the get go the frame is bent and unusable and now I have to wait another week for a new one I am going to try to dissemble the swing gate and repair mine while I send this one back I’ve been a prime custome for three yrs I shouldn’t have to wait that long for a new one. Thank you bill belmont

Perfect so far...
Highly recommend this gate. I like the craftsmanship and functionality. It closes by itself when you go through and swings open in either direction, which is a great asset if you are trying to keep children or dogs out or in. The aluminum joints are neatly soldered. And it looks like it was custom made for the space, very attractive along with my wrought iron staircase. It is installed on the second floor at the top of a spiral staircase, so now the stairwell is safe for small creatures. 5 stars for all that. But 3 stars for ease of installation. I read all the reviews and looked at all the other manufacturers too before purchasing, and many people said the product broke or fell over or they couldn’t get through the gate, or work the latch. I have none of those problems. And the reason is: I DID NOT INSTALL IT MYSELF. I paid a carpenter to do it. Hint: In order to fasten the gate securely enough, and open the latch the way it is meant to be used, it really should be screwed into a stud in your wall, or tied to a post or bannister on your stairs. Just propping it up and tightening the extension rods between two walls will not hold it firmly in place. Any bigger dog or toddler would just knock it down. And my guess is that’s why some reviewers are complaining about the gate or latch breaking. I don’t know how the latch will hold up over time so I may have to revise this if it breaks after 6 months. This gate is totally safe to use if permanently installed. If it wears out after a year, I will get another and drop it into the same already prepared space. I am excited to see that a medium size Labrador cannot teach himself to open the door. That’s the reason I got it, and I’m glad I did! Highly recommend.

This is a lovely gate, high quality...BUT...
After forty years being an independant lady, I have performed most every installation, assembly, adjustment from ceiling fans on vaulted ceilings, remodeling and repairs etc. So I didn't think this installation would be difficult at all; however, it took me over five hours before giving up and calling my contractor son to finish the job. The instructions are garbage...nowhere was it mentioned that this was to be bolted at the sides with tension-type bolt assemblies...I strongly suggest you be sure you have the task and prior knowledge of the process clear in your mind, lest you will be so stressed you may not be able to enjoy the finished product. Also there was no tool enclosed to properly install the latch and adjust it properly. Very disappointed with lack of detail but really like the gate. It works for what I wanted...to keep the local cats off of my upstairs deck of my home.

Measure carefully
My new, rescued dog has run out of the house several times as company came in or left. I decided to put a gate at the top of the steps to keep Arthur from escaping and running after neighborhood cats again. My concern was finding a gate that was wide enough to fit and sturdy enough to keep people from dislodging it since it would be attached to wrought iron. The opening was between 48" and 49". To make it extra sturdy, I purchased a piece of wood and cut it the width and length of the end posts. I spray painted the wood and glued it to the wrought iron posts using black electrical tape to hold in place until it dried. I was able at that point to screw the round plates into the wood so that they would not slide as I was afraid they would if attached directly to the wrought iron. The gate closes automatically which is helpful. It is a bit tricky opening since you have to slide and then lift, so I put directions to keep people from busting through. I am very pleased with the final product.

Adjustment knobs are hard to turn
The gate is attractive and, once installed, works pretty well. It is sturdy but, if you have a big dog, this definitely won't hold up. My biggest complaint is that once you have a good amount of tension on the unit and try to tighten it further, turning the smooth knobs with your fingers is extremely difficult. I have very strong hands and know this design is poor. A different unit I bought had a three-sided wingnut shape to the adjusters and that was wonderful.

Used as Dog Gate
We have had great success with this gate. We purchased it to keep our elderly dog off our new carpet while still giving him room to roam in part of the house. I was a little concerned with some of the reviews talking about having trouble installing it, especially since we installed it, then decided to move it again (and had already snipped the strap that keeps the gates together). We discovered that if you tightened each side equally (which required going from side to side and back and forth as many times as needed until it was where we wanted it to be), it lined up perfectly. We did proactively purchase separately four wall protectors so that we do not mark our doorway. It does latch automatically when you go through the gate, but if I anticipate multiple trips through the gate with laundry, etc., I can close the gate gently without the latch engaging, and the dog cannot open it if I do it on the correct side. My daughter brought her Alaskan Malamute (huge dog) over, and he gave up trying to knock it down. Success! We wish we had discovered this gate years ago.

Nice product
Product showed up on time without damage and is decent quality. I am using to keep my older Siamese (hairy) cat and two Shiba Inu dogs out of living room as they were shedding so much hair and my dogs were sneaking a nap on my good chairs. It makes a nice break and doesn't look cheap but still lets light through without totally separating rooms. My other cat can jump and lands on top which shifts it a little bit. I am going to put something to hold it in place on the bottom. That is my only negative. It would be nice if the company would supply a more permanent installation option so that it was not just spring-loaded between the walls. Even so it does not fall out of the space but does move a little bit. Overall good for the price and my purpose.

Straightforward and easy to set up
I didn't have any problems setting this up with my husband, except if you're not particularly strong, you might want someone with better grip to help tighten the knobs to get the best pressure mount you can. Definitely follow the instructions when they say not to cut the zip tie on the door until the gate is set up properly. I bought this for a puppy who is growing pretty quick. It seems pretty durable and well built, and it's cheaper than many tall and wide gates I've found. I recommend getting some caps with rubber ends for added resistance when pressure mounting. The only downside is I didn't realize this was one of those gates you had to press and pull the button and also lift the gate. It's mildly annoying, but it's an added safety feature and the whole point is to keep a pet or baby safe sooo...

Exceeded expectations
I ordered 2 gates, to block upper and lower stairways in advance of bringing home new kittens. The packages arrived quickly and in good condition. The gates appeared just as per website -- in fact, they looked much better than I had expected. I have dark wood railings & stairs, and the black gates blended perfectly and even looked like a nice addition (but not notably an "add-on"; in other words, they looked as if they could have been an original/intentional part of the staircases. Much nicer than any other child (or pet) gates I've seen in the past -- especially as they don't have to be permanently installed. They also exceeded my expectations for sturdiness and, importantly, they fully served the intended purpose. The gates are (fairly) easy to open and close behind you, quickly and easily. They seem fairly secure, though if I was protecting staircases with children in mind, I would permanently secure to the wall and/or posts, if possible, as I think a firm shove or someone falling against the gate could dislodge it. (Despite the cats' best efforts, they are unable to get through, under or unlatch, but larger animals and certainly children could likely find ways to open -- or land up pushing sufficiently to open the gate). Note: the opening between the rails is narrow enough to protect against a child's head getting stuck -- but, if you have a cat (or kitten), it is a temptation and they can certainly get their heads between the rails -- and get stuck. (We have temporarily blocked the lower rail openings, but hope that can be removed in time.) The only other comment is that you do need a solid wall on one end of the gate and a solid (and large enough) post or wall on the other gate to affix/tension hold it properly. Before purchasing, take a good look at the intended location -- and make sure that there are solid surfaces (at the same height) that will allow for the tension points to lay flat against the wall (or post, pillar, etc.) at both top AND bottom on both sides of the gate. (The top and bottom fix points can be different, as the tension "bars"/"posts" can -- and must be -- adjusted to secure the gate, but if they are too different or at different heights -- it will not be able to be securely placed in that location.) For the price, I think they appear good quality and thus far (1 month in) have served their purpose and are worth the investment -- and, don't look too bad or take away from other decor, design, etc., which is a concern with so many child or pet gates. For me, it was well worth the higher price point.

Don’t waste your money
This gate came all bent and wouldn’t even close. The gate was zip tied closed and when removing zip ties which would have been a great struggle to get it together to zip tie it it literally was 6-8” off from closing and all bent. We had to modify gate for it to be able to close and as a pressure mount gate won’t close even all straightened out as the pressure to hold it in place stops the gate from closing. If you release the pressure it falls down. Worst pressure mount gate I have purchased.

Super impressed
This is a high quality gate we use at the top of our stairs to keep our dog from going to the basement. It's easy to open and swings closed automatically . I'd say it's professional grade. It is strong, sturdy and looks good. Our dog jumps and this gate is high enough to keep him in. It's also very easy to install without damaging the walls (we installed it against a banister). It is more expensive than many of the others, but I wanted a good quality gate and I figured Evenflo, which makes baby products, would deliver. They did. We're very pleased!

Box was heavily damaged and product was missing a ziptie
When I received this baby gate, the box was heavily damaged. I was concerned that the product inside might have been damaged too. I opened the box and removed the gate. It was really difficult to slide out of the box, so I was even more concerned that it may be damaged. I leaned it up against the wall and took a look at it and it looked as though the frame were severely bent. I contacted evenflo about the bent frame to find out if they would ship a replacement since this one was bent. They responded that the frame is supposed to look bent, despite this not being what is in the instructions. I couldn't get the gate to sit right when installing and eventually had to ask a friend to hold the frame such that it didn't look bent while I installed the mounting hardware. Eventually we got it installed, but it was way more difficult. After talking with evenflo customer service again, apparently a ziptie had been forgotten to be installed during the production of my unit. Either way, I was unimpressed with how difficult it was to install and I'm not planning on uninstalling it anytime soon because of how painful it was to install the first time.
