In a World Full of Pain, at Least We have Labels.
ORGANIZATION. There, now that I have your attention, put your pants back on so we can rap about some serious stuff, and that stuff is labels. Specifically making them. I know what you're thinking, "LeDerik, I can't rap with you about labels. I'm at work. Everyone will know. You're bad." Nah girl, the world is bad. Now, let's get to organizing some stuff. Your space is disgusting. Like many of you, when I see an unorganized space, I immediately want to hit the eject button on this whole planet, Elon Musk style. Then I come back to my senses and leave that maniac to his Mars shenanigans. I got a horrible world to save. The DYMO Label Maker with 3 D1 DYMO Label Tapes, gets the job done, and it does it well. Prints fast, has lots of options. Doesn't have an eggplant emoji, but it does have a little banana. That's a fun time. Put a little banana and a question mark on your boss's desk. You'll laugh and laugh, possibly to the HR office. Who's to say? Webster's defines labels as, "a slip (as of paper or cloth) inscribed and affixed to something for identification or description." Now I'm a simple cul-de-sac chipmunk, not a nerd. Webster's left off one thing we ALL know. YES, labels do help you organize......and that's hot. You wanna save your marriage? Slap some labels on your crap and organize your house. If they don't want you after that, they're not the one son. Now with that said, I'm not a fan of all the batteries it requires. They seem to last a long time, but I'm not Otis Redding. I don't have battery money to be throwing around. Definitely not looking forward to changing those, but other than that, it's a good time.

Nice handheld label printer with QWERTY keyboard.
Most of the handheld label printers are built using ABC keybaords vs. the QWERTY keyboard, and that was a key factor in my decision to buy this scanner. Some people have claimed that using DYMO label makers vs. Brother label makers will save money as the DYMO does waste less label when printing, this is both true and false --- I will explain more further down in this review. I would like to add to this review a comment about batteries, there has been multiple comments about this label maker "eating batteries"; I have used up trial cartridge and many labels into my second cartridge and have not changed the batteries in this unit. I am using Eneloop Rechargeable batteries and they have performed flawlessly. Keep in mind that this would be a higher drain type of device when printing and cheap "Super Duty" (Non-alkaline or cheap Rechargeable) batteries are probably not going to work well. As always, I recommend the investment in Eneloop batteries with a good charger (LaCrosse BC-700) PROs: - Handheld form factor - Easy to use - Prints nice looking labels - QWERTY Keyboard CONs: - NO access to any special charactors except via menus (i.e. if you need a "-" or a "." on your label, there is NO button for this and you have to go into the symbol menu to find the symbol you want) ... This is annoying and is the reason that this label maker looses one star (most of my labels include "-" or "." in them) **************************************************************************************** *** The truth about actual label costs (Pictures will be attached to this review) *** **************************************************************************************** I printed out labels using a Brother P-Touch PT-2030 and the DYMO LabelManager 160 and these were the results of my findings: As of the time of this writing, the DYMO 1/2" D-1 label roll is selling for $14 and includes 23 feet (276 inches) of label As of the time of this writing, the Brother 1/2" P-Touch label roll is selling for $11 and includes 26.2 feet (314 inches) of label I printed two labels that had this text in 24pt BOLD "TEST-XX-01" The DYMO label that was printed including wasted space on both sides was 2.75" in length which would allow 100 labels to be printed on a $14 roll *** $0.14 per label The Brother label that was printed including wasted space on both sides was 4" in length which would allow 78 labels to be printed on the $11 roll *** $0.14 per label *** TIE *** I printed two labels that had this text in 24pt BOLD "255.255.255.255" The DYMO label that was printed including wasted space on both sides was 3.375" (3 3/8") in length which would allow 81 labels on $14 roll *** $0.17 per label The Brother label that was printed including wasted space on both sides was 4.5" in length which would allow 69 labels on a $11 roll *** $0.16 per label *** BROTHER WINS *** The DYMO would win with smaller labels, it seems that my first label tested is about the tie breaker in size. Bottom line: If you print SMALL labels, you will get more for your money using a DYMO label printer with less waste per label If you print larger labels, you will get more for your money using a BROTHER label printer even though it waste more per label The DYMO generally prints more labels per roll than the brother, even though there is less label per cart, however the Brother label is cheaper at this time. There is also the consideration that you might be ok with the extra tape used by the dymo, and that you might hate how much extra tape is used with the brother, ... How much time might you spend trimming brother labels because they are huge? They are both great label makers ... I hope this review helps someone make an informed decision!

A review in 2023, for someone who doesn't already have a label maker.
This device seems to have been on the market for a while. And the 3-tape version is an excellent deal when not inflated (check price history); 3 official full-length tapes might cost you more than the bundle. Brother ships "starter packs" with deliberately shortened tape lengths. Ergonomics are great on a handheld device with an okay QWERTY layout. The buttons are rubber but at this price point you're simply not going to get hard plastic keys. MIA are basic punctuation like dot and dash, and shift operates as a lock only. Unfortunately there's a lot not great with this device: * 6 AAA batteries is a little rough, and half of the battery contacts are directly contacting a pad on a PCB. This is not going to wear well over time. The device is cheap but not so cheap that I would consider it disposable. 6 AAs would be better, 4 AA would be much better. * Cost savings have removed the cleaning tool that is supposed to be included with the device, to keep the cutting blade from getting gummed up. "If missing, contact Dymo" says the download-only instructions. Hand you over my address for junk mail because you wanted to be cheap? Nah. * Interface is definitely out of the 90s. Non-backlit low-resolution LCD display. The interface is simple, but some of the experience is absolutely stone age like no button to clear the text, no copy/paste, no macros of any kind. You have bold, italics, underline, but it's an all-or-nothing: entire label in that style. You'll generally find these better features in higher tier devices but it's such a minor software thing it feels like they're being cheap. * Compared to the equivalent Brother competition, the selection of clip art and borders are lacking. This isn't my thing, but if it's important to you, you might want to take a second look at the competition. * I had to send back the first unit back as the printer was broken out of the box. Amazon replacement are easy, but it was still a hassle, and definitely shakes my confidence in the longevity of my purchase. And the biggest problem: the tape menu!! Looking at the description and Dymo's site, it looks great. Lots of color options, width options, and material options. The problem is that you're not going to find every combination manufactured, and even those that are technically "listed" are vaporware and nowhere to be purchased. Interestingly enough, the clone-compatible China market is where you really can get all combinations and, honestly, it's pretty pathetic that the manufacturer doesn't support the device as well as the knock off manufacturers do, at the crazy profit margins of the official tapes, too. Now the official tapes are quite good quality. The backing is easy to remove, the standard adhesive exceeded my expectations on degreased PET plastic, and the middle split makes it easy to apply without getting finger oils where they shouldn't be. The counterfeits just aren't nearly as good. But, when I need White on Black at 1/4", I'm SOL unless I support an industry I don't necessarily agree with. While talking about genuine vs copy, the official tapes are good but they're maybe only 2 or 3x as good as the counterfeits and certainly not worth 8x the price. For maximum utility and not getting taken to the cleaners, you're probably just going to have to be a little morally flexible. Counterfeits harm the industry, but plain not serving the customers and soaking them when you do is more like suicide than just getting attacked. And, honestly, Brother seems to have the same problem. A lot of "theoretical" part numbers that just don't exist or are perpetually not in stock. It's a bit of a shame. Knowing what I know now about the supply chain, I'm only moderately happy with my choice. If Dymo gets their act together it will only improve my current purchase, but only another decade or so will show how that plays out.

Surprisingly excellent.
I bought this primarily to label food going into the freezer as many frozen meals or sauces were being thrown out as unidentifiable. I as probably expecting an upgrade of the old Dymo embossed labels but these are professional printed labels which are good enough to use on display eg organisers as on Stacey Solomon’s tv programme. The freezer is properly organised too and the labels adhere perfectly. Update*. My wife has now labelled all the shelving in our large shed and I know where everything is. Could have done with it years ago!

Better ones out there
Hmmm, I wanted to like this - I’m a big fan of a good labeller, and I use a Brother which has lasted years and is just as good now. I got this Dymo for my mother, as it has a qwerty keyboard which she finds easier to use. But the print window is tiny! You really have to squint to see what you’ve pressed - I can manage but at her age, it’s not so easy. Yes you get different font styles (not different fonts, just styles - italic, bold etc) and sizes so that’s all fine, plus lots of symbols (she’d only use the basics) so it’s almost over engineered. And it uses 6 AA batteries, which is a heck of a lot, let’s hope they last - buy decent ones! The Dymo is a well established brand and you do pay for the name, on this (over £34 although you get two tapes) and the tapes themselves. I’ll stick with my old faithful Brother, although my mother is happy with this and is now labelling everything (sometimes with spelling mistakes as she can’t see the tiny screen!)

Lovely labelmaker
I've had a DYMO labelmaker for many years, but it eventually gave up the ghost. This one replaces it. Nice that this has a qwerty keyboard instead of an abcd one.

Great labelling machine!
Produces good prints, very intuitive with the functions being fairly obvious from the keys, only improvement I could suggest is making a long press of the delete key delete the lot, it will delete continuously if you hold it down but 1 letter at a time, bit tedious if it is a long label. Yes that's it! I bought the American one as it was cheaper and had three rolls of tape with it as a bonus, I still have no idea what the difference is! Possibly a warranty issue? I'm not concerned, it was a good purchase and addictive, I have been labelling everything around the house, even multi-plugs so I can switch off the correct one if needed, (yes I may need counselling) - but it's great!!

Great product!
Wanted one since I was a kid, use one at work (school) and decided to treat myself. All my Christmas decoration boxes are labelled and can’t wait to label more!! Nice clear print, on large setting for me and could reposition label on plastic box if not quite right easily, has lots of functions/fonts/sizes etc but not explored those options yet.
