Works as Advertised
I am used to working on and around several sketchy trailers. They always bump into stuff, or the wires break, or for whatever reason not everything is functional on them. It is super useful to have something that is giving me a visual indication that the signals from the vehicle are at least getting to the back, so I can start my troubleshooting from there. If for some reason some of the lights aren't working, I can then pull my meter out and check the voltage right from the back to verify. I also installed a brake controller at the same time, and it was very easy to check that the brake controller was working. I did have to cut the four wire connector off that attaches to the one assumed to be in the vehicle because my truck previously had just a seven pin adapter, so I needed to crimp the pigtails together, and verify the factory colors on my vehicle were matching up with the new adapter. I immediately took the adapter on a 600 mi round trip towing a trailer, and everything worked like it's supposed to. A really nice option to have the flexibility to connect to seven pin or a 4-pin trailer without any additional equipment.

Nice 4 pin to 7 pin adapter with tester
I bought this electrical adapter with the Curt 58000 Easy-Mount Electrical Bracket. Nothing wrong with the provided bracket. I installed this on a Toyota Sienna and I didin't have anything to easily attach the provided bracket. The 58000 easily and nicely mounts to the 2 inch receiver. The adapter was easy to wire up, connecting to my existing 4 pin plug. I used 3 strand outdoor 12 guage copper wire from Lowes to run the power and trailer brake connections to the front. I used the black wire to connect to the adapter's to black lead, using a 40 amp breaker in the the power line before connecting to the battery. You'll have to buy some eye connectors if you don't already have them (I purchased a pack at Walmart). I used the white wire to connect to the adapter's blue lead for the trailer brake, but as of this posting, I do not need a trailer brake, so I have it capped off in the engine compartment. The reason for 4 stars is that the adapter's white ground lead was too short for me to mount to the vehicles frame in the back, so I clipped off the eye connector and connected it into the unused copper ground wire of the 3 strand wire amd added an eye connector to the other end, to make the ground connection in the engine compartment. The tester lights are great, providing added assurance that the wiring of the tow vehicle is still good, although, as many have already reported, the 12v power LED remains illuminated once the connection is made. I have it all taped up and protected with plastic loom, so it should be good to go, but time will tell how it does in the elements.

Solved my problem
Wired it to convert an old 4-pin to the new dual plug. You will need to add the backup light. I like the LEDs on this unit and how well built it is. Nice!

A little too big but a great help
The built in tester was what I wanted and it does a great job. What they don't tell you is that the potting boot on the end makes the connector just a little bit too long to fit on modern SUV hitches. My Subaru Ascent has the spare tire just behind the hitch so a big connector would just not work. I had to Dremel out the back of the potting boot and give it a right angle. There is also the problem of the little 4 pin on the side. It would just not stay in the hole so I had to glue it in. The wires on the 4-pin are a bit exposed so I had to add some harness cover over it. Still - I love the tester right there in the connector. The little +12V light that is always on even helps me find the hitch in the dark.

It is what it says it is.
I installed this with a hitch bracket instead of the included bracket but it still works great. The only down fall is the LED lights are on all the time due to 12 volt being hot to the connection at all times. Had it on all year, the draw has not negatively effected my Dodge Caravan. People sometimes ask why I have little red lights on all the time but most have gotten used to seeing it on all the time. The upside of course is that if you have an issue with your trailer brakes or lights you can instantly eliminate the tow vehicle as the problem if the lights are all working at the connector.

Easy to install, excellent quality
Overall easy to install except they do not furnish screws. Works perfectly on both the round and flat connectors. My truck only had the flat connector from the factory which I used to install this adaptor. Light tester is a nice bonus to ensure your wiring works without having to install trailer.

Doesn't Fit Itself :-(
I wanted a nice flush mount for the four and the seven-pin plugs. The seven looks great, but I'm guessing they changed to a different four-pin plug and never changed the bracket...? The plug is great quality and perfect to fit flush and snug in a rectangular hole, but the hole in the bracket is a quarter inch too long, and even if I shove it in there and shim it in place it can't go all the way in or it blocks the seven-pin plug. I wish I had gotten the one from "Hopkins" instead - it looks like it is properly built to flush mount.

Simple and straightforward
I installed this on my 22 Honda Pilot. I towed my first trailer and it worked great. Definitely happy with it.

Great adapter, but I could live without the indicator lights (for specific reasons)
Works very well, good construction and installs easily. My only complaint may be model specific, but when installed on my Ford Escape 2017 it messes with the cross traffic sensor and won't work. Also, the backup sensor is always alerted when reversing, so there's constant beeping when reversing your trailer. I used this with a Tekonsha wireless brake controllerTekonsha 90250 Prodigy RF Electronic Brake Control , and because there are indicator lights on the adapter, there is a small current going to the 5 o'clock pin, which tricks the Tekonsha into thinking you have a brake controller installed. Just cover that pin (on the Curt adapter) with electrical tape and you're good to go.

Happy camper here.
Installing the bracket on an angled surface was interesting, and clearance behind was dicey because of the hard boot, but it’s on and working. Should have bought this first, and saved the money I spent on a tester! Looks great, works well. 2010 Pathfinder w/factory 4-pin Add the 2-pin connection to e-brake and power beyond, and a splice into the existing harness for backup lights and the kit’s complete for this car.

I may have lost the color code. The LED will drain the battery in... wait.. 10 000hrs.
Power LED is always ON, this is a minor load for the battery. For this LED alone, it will take more than a year to drain a normal battery. But, it may give the idea to some smart a** to drain your battery by connecting something to the connector... but they can do it without a LED anyway, the issue can be solved with a switch and a relay so you control when there is power on the plug, the LED is not the issue, LED only shows that there is a flaw. The only real issue I have it that I did not find or I lost the instructions, and my existing plug was different, so here the wiring if you need it: - The 4 pin connector is obvious, it connects to the vehicle harness - White is ground, with the screw on connector, (standard colour) - Black is 12V charging power (standard colour) - Blue for Electric Brake (standard colour) - Yellow for backup (Yellow is standard for RV or SAE, while the traditional wiring colour code is purple as my existing plug) Other than that: - The yellow connectors are heavy duty, get some good crimpers. - If the vehicle doesn't have a 4 pins connector, install one, it will make your life easier in the future if you need to replace this plug, as I just did.

Great quality
This unit was very easy to install and it works great. The built-in indicator lights provide a great visual to show everything is properly hooked up. Quality seems to be very good as well.
