Exactly what we were looking for...and very well made.

We have been completely redoing the back porch and the area around it on our 100+ year old Victorian home and were looking for a pair of post caps for the newel posts at the bottom of the stairs which are 6 x 6 size. While these do not claim to be for a 6 x 6 post we decided to take a chance as they were a very close match for the Patriot Lighting Belle series fixtures that we're using on both the front and back porches. They have turned out to be a perfect choice. I had to cut a 1/4 inch wide by 1/2 inch deep notch all around the top of both posts which made the lights fit perfectly without any adaptors of any kind. Even with notching the posts to make them fit they still slightly overhang the posts dimensions so they look like they belong there - not too small at all. They are real stained glass and seem very well made. The batteries were charged when they arrived and they lit up in the dark immediately. Another big plus: Our backyard area is pretty well shaded and I was worried that they would not receive enough sunlight to keep them going through the evening. But I was very pleasantly surprised to discover that the batteries they use are AA size and easily removable/replaceable from the bottom. This means that every week or so I can take the batteries out (the fit on our posts is snug enough that I don't have to screw them in place - just lift them off and remove the batteries), put them in a AA recharger I happened to have and let them charge for a few hours, then replace the batteries in the fixtures. Even with limited sunlight this will give the batteries enough charge to keep them going all night long for about a week or so. It also means that when these batteries eventually give out I won't have to tear the fixtures apart to get them out or search all over the internet to find some weird size batteries to replace them. The light they give out is just a tad cooler than what I would call a warm white but goes very well with the stained glass. They are decorative in nature - not designed to give so much light that they would serve to illuminate a large area - but we'll leave that task to other lights that are designed for illumination rather than decoration. These are absolutely perfect for where they are and what they are. I'm attaching a photo to show how I trimmed the top of the newel posts to accommodate the lights and what they look like in place at the bottom of our still-under-construction back porch stairs. UPDATE: Unfortunately I discovered that while the fixtures themselves are wonderful, the batteries supplied with them are - shall we say - not so much. After bringing them to full charge, they managed to light the caps through the night one time. Every other time they did not make it through the night. So I ordered a set of Amazon Basics AA batteries to replace them. I gave them a full charge and replaced the original batteries. Since I did that the weather has been at best mid forties during the day here and mid twenties at night, and it has been consistently overcast and dreary. Even so the Amazon batteries have been keeping the lights on steadily throughout the night for five days now and still going strong. Add to that the fact that we're approaching the longest nights of the year and I think the performance is outstanding. If I were rating the batteries supplied with the post caps I'd give them one star because you can't give zero stars. But I'm rating the post caps themselves, so my rating stands at five stars...just know that you'll need better batteries.

Lasts a year

I like that it’s easy to install, good brightness and easy to assemble. Problem is it’ll last maybe a year. I replaced several when they stopped working but they didn’t last too. Can’t be replacing them so often! If they lasted longer I would buy them.

Neighbors want these now!

These are unique and really nice. They turn on automatically at night and provide a good amount of light (not too much though). Since I've purchased them, family and friends have too----I'm a trendsetter!

Not very bright.

I would describe it more like a marker light, than a light. They look good, with a nice glow. They appear to be good quality, and are well made, however one of the three "lights" that I ordered does not work, (even tried a new battery, that worked in a different light). Easy to install. Use it like a decoration, instead of using it for illumination.

Mediocre Quality

The original 600 mAh battery that came with the lamp lasted only a few months. That's not too unexpected. The lamp sat on my mailbox post unlit for nearly a year until I bought some 1,000 mAh batteries made for solar-powered items. Now it's lit again and lasts for most of the night. The biggest disappointment, though, is that the colors in the lamp surface faded in the sunlight. Other than that, it's definitely easy to install on a 4x4 and it's easy to change the battery.

Still Glowing After 5 Years!!

The media could not be loaded. A 5 year update…these solar lamps are incredibly worth the money! I’ve transplanted them to my wife’s flower garden from the deck posts and only replaced the batteries twice. Amazingly the shades still hold their initial beauty and the solar panels have only needed to have the bird droppings cleaned off. These post lights survived a tough Ohio winter with much snow and sub-freezing temperatures. I neglected to remove them for the season, and we are quite pleased that they maintained their original appearance and functionality. Well worth the few extra $’s. You will be pleased with the look and light.

I installed them myself, very easy and work great!

Just set these up. They were in the box for months and still work perfectly! They look beautiful on our octagon deck. I installed them and they were very easy. Replaced old copper ones that had no light. Love the look, love the easy install and recommend highly. I do hope they continue to be as beautiful as they are now. Couldn't be happier with my purchase.

These lights brighten our home's entry.

When we saw the similarities of these post cap lights to our F. L. Wright exterior wall sconces & porch ceiling light we had to get two of them. Two years after purchase & installation both lights still brighten our corner posts and their similarity to the other lights has brought many compliments. They were perfect for our home.

Sporadic lighting. Not reliable.

I bought this brand because I had purchased from the same company 5 years ago and they still light. Wanted an upgrade but instead have gotten unreliable lights that may light one day or for a few hours and then not again. It is not a battery issue or charging. It is something within the light. It’s so disappointing. 1 light out of the four works consistently and is beautiful. But 3 suck.

LOVE!!!

Easy to install, look fantastic! Have had the exact ones for years and bought another! They look fabulous 365 days, wonderful with some snow on top! Hope they don’t discontinue this ‘stained glass’ style!!
