Good security, but lock mechanism could be smoother

Kryptonite is no stranger to the bike lock market, with a wide variety of lock options for a variety of situations. This cable lock is rated by Kryptonite at the mid-range of their solutions, likely because while the lock itself is strong, any cable lock is inherently vulnerable to being cut in some manner if you give the thief enough time/tools. That said, for most situations short of parking your bike for LONG periods (multiple days/a week or more at a time) in an area where you won’t see it, this is likely to be sufficient security. The cable is strong and sturdy and long enough to wrap through the key parts of your bike and around whatever you’re locking it to. Due to the thickness of the cable, it’s not the easiest to work with, but not the hardest I’ve tried either, so it’s about what I’d expect. The lock is secure and I feel like it would be at least reasonably hard to defeat. The color is non-descript and it does include a mounting solution for a variety of bikes or scooters. And it’s reasonably priced (as of this writing) for the security it provides. So why did I remove a star then? The lock mechanism itself is somewhat clunky to deal with - it’s reliable and it does lock and unlock, but it’s not as smooth or easy as it ought to be. This particularly is a problem if you’re in a hurry (that just makes it worse) or if it’s dark/not ideal weather. And note that this applies if you’re locking it OR unlocking it. It could be much smoother both ways - that would earn it 5 stars. As is, it’s certainly an acceptable option if you don’t care about spending a few extra seconds locking/unlocking - you still get good security for a reasonable price from a known name, and sometimes that’s exactly what you want!

Good enough

I have little trust in bike locks of any type. I've lost bikes that were double-locked under the most expensive locks I could afford. Locks worth more than my bike. A determined thief isn't something you can account for. What you can plan for is a lazy thief and I'm confident this will handle them for at least the 30 minutes or less my bike will be out of my sight. Sturdy looking enough to deter opportunists. Convenient enough to stay on my bike for those short events where I need it. Not too awkward. The push light by the keys is a fun touch! I doubt I'll ever leave my bike anywhere at night but if I did it makes finding the keyhole, or rotating the keyhole cover to the right spot, a lot easier.

Nice lock, using it on my Thule bike rack when traveling/parking

This lock is very nice and I have been using it on my Thule bike rack when traveling/parking. Didn't use the bracket to mount it to the tube, but that was a nice touch, I kept it in the toolbox in case I use it down the road. I had a moment where I thought I wasn't able to get the lock open, I was pulling the pin out with the key/lock the open position, but it didn't move. When I started to turn the key back it kind of just fell out on its own, so now I've figured out how to use it and it works great.

Pretty good for the posted price.

Security level 3 out of 5, according to the package. Why isn't that on the Amazon product page? Seems like a sturdy lock for a low-crime area.

Good Cable Lock for Basic Security

The 6ft cable is long enough to loop through the bike frame and a nearby object, and the 12mm braided steel cable feels sturdy and durable. The included keys are easy to use, and I appreciate the mounting bracket that allows me to carry the lock on my bike frame while riding. Pros: Sturdy and durable 12mm braided steel cable Comes with mounting bracket for convenient carrying Easy to use keys Cons: Not as secure as a U-lock or heavy-duty chain lock Overall, I would recommend the Kryptonite Bike Lock Cable for basic security needs. While it may not be as secure as heavier-duty locks, it provides a decent level of protection for everyday use.

Great Lock, So-So Keys

I have a similar Kryptonite cable lock I bought over 20 years ago and it still works great. Got this one for my son to take with his bike to college and I'm happy with it, mostly. The lock itself is great. The cable is thick and provides excellent theft protection, with a nice durable sheath for protecting the bike's finish. I also like the twist rotation keyhole cover which is easier to work with than the slide tab cover on my old lock. The I also like that the lock can be popped in without having to turn the key, which is only necessary to unlock it. Again, better than my old lock that required turning the key before inserting the lock end. My complaint with this lock is actually keys. They are much thinner and flimsier that the ones with my old lock. They feel like they could break pretty easily if you aren't careful with them. They really need to be made of thicker metal. I guess this makes the free key replacement benefit more enticing. The light on the key is also barely useful. It's blue and not very bright, but better than no light I guess. Overall, this is a great lock with mediocre keys.

Se siente resistente la cadena, las llaves demasiado fragiles que siento que en un descuido se romperan, el portacadena que va en la bicicleta esta muy sencillo, he visto mejores que el mecanismo de cierre es automatico, tal vez mejor no lo use. En general aceptable el producto.

Muy buena cadena, los materiales son muy resistentes, incluye un programa para la reposición de las llaves en caso de extravío y una base para montarla en la bicicleta.
