È disponibile in Ti Gold e Silver.

Pins are tough
Shifts well, easily! Good transfer when my derailleurs are working correctly. Old cables need replacing. The pins are real tough, had to push one out with the cheap chain breaker in order to get head to come out, took file to the protruding head and then pushed it back through to break chain. Tough sum beotch! took it fer a ride and the chain didn't grind or bind shifting, when that worked. Good chain. The old one was factory chain on a 1999 bike. Maybe I'll git another 20 years out of this bike. Should have changed the factory chain 19 years ago, shifting is smoother and the chain is tougher than nails. Even tore up a brand new chain breaker on it.

Shiny = Nice!
Well made 9 speed chain. Design: The side plates have a diagonal raised area that will ride better along the front derailleur than a flat plate would. The pins have a small divot in the center which is really nice to help center the chain breaker. Construction: This chain appears well made. I did not find any sticky links and everything was well lubed with a storage protectant so that there will be no rust issues before it is installed. Be sure to clean as much of that shipping protectant off the chain, and properly lube it with your favorite lube before you use it initially. The entire chain, with the exception of the pins, is chrome plated, which looks nice and really helps keeping the chain clean. It wipes off easier than a non-plated chain, and the fact that the chrome looks so nice when clean motivates me to keep it clean. Installation: Just like any other chain. One thing you should know is that the pins are fairly tight, and you should have a good chain breaker to make it easier to remove the correct number of links. Break to the correct length, install with the included reusable master link, and lube before first use. Pretty straight forward. Use: It shifts well, runs smooth and quiet, and is easier than most to keep clean. The chrome plating dresses up the bike and looks great when kept clean. The only downside may be htat the tight pins may be hard to break with a trail side repair tool chain breaker. I will likely buy this model chain again when I need another. EDIT (5/21/2018): I am on my third chain of this model. It is now my go-to chain for 9 speed drivetrains. They last a long time when properly lubed, and the chrome plating really does help keep it clean, make it easier to clean, and rust has never been an issue. I will keep buying these as long as I need 9 speed chains!

Not the Original X9.99
This chain is not the older KMC X9.99, but the manufacturer re-used UPC code for what is a similar but different model part X9 since they are no longer making the X9.99. The seller allowed me to return the order since the images for their listing showed the older X9.99 chain (stamped with XSP on the links themselves unlike the newer ones that others reviewers have pointed out). You will note from my pictures that KMC is using the same UPC for the two parts, but the manufacturer seems to be stretching GTIN rules about re-using a UPC code once an old part is not longer made. It is possible that this replacement for the X9.99 could end up being just as good, but for those of us that really sought out the X9.99 because of its historical performance, this has caused us and retailers a lot of confusion. UPC for old X9.99 = UPC for X9 Silver (not the Silver/Gray which appears to be the old half-nickel plated X9.93).

it fits, is a bit noisy
Fits my 3x9 Kona Sutra, looks the same as the old one, but it is noisy, thought it needed lube, but have been running it for about 400 miles now, lots of lube, still noisy in my opinion. But it held up to a week long tour with 45-50 pounds of gear. So good.

Premium Performance and Looks Without The Price
The media could not be loaded. The KMC X9.99 Bicycle Chain is a chain designed for a nine cog rear cassette. It is a bright silver color and has plates that are contoured for efficient shifting. It comes with a quick link which connects the chain without tools. It is not necessary but it is my habit to degrease a new chain with a safe solvent and then lube it with bike chain lube.Removing the link is difficult without a tool. I use a Park Tool master link tool called MLP-12. Hopefully you have an old chain to remove. I use a Park Tool screw type CT-3 chain tool to break the old chain. Lay the old chain flat and lay the new KMC X9.99 next to it. Then use the CT-3 to remove the unneeded links from the new chain. I had to remove several to make it 108 links. I suggest counting and matching the exact number of links rather than visually matching the length as the old chain will likely be longer from wear. Once installed, enjoy riding with the shiny new chain. All your friends will be envious :-) The shifting should be better than before. I rarely find equipment or accessories that cry five stars but the X9.99 SCREAMS it.

Initially a bit suspicious but so far a great chain!
I have 9 speed drive trains on a few of my bikes and for years have used Shimano CN 7701 Dura Ace/XTR chains with them. Those 7701 chains were high quality and I could usually get about two years out of one before they stretched too much. At some point in the near past, Shimano decided to stop making the 7701 chain (I have no idea why) so I had to go looking for a new high quality 9 speed chain. I have heard of KMC chains but usually thought of them as makers of lower quality chains for less expensive bikes. But this X9.99 chain is fully nickel plated, has inner and outer chamfering and is fully heat treated to resist stretch. It also weighs a competitive 291 grams and the X9.99 comes with a nice master link that makes connecting and disconnecting the chain a breeze. So far, I have had the chain for about 4 months but it has performed flawlessly and is nice and quiet with my Shimano XT 9 speed drivetrain. I will come back and update this review as the months pass, but I would recommend this X9.99 chain to other cyclists. Five stars so far.
