Bought the Bounty Hunter Discovery 2200 to locate surveyor's pins that mark my property
I recently purchased a Bounty Hunter Discovery 2200 metal detector to locate the old surveyor's pins that mark the corners of my property. The unit arrived on time and in good shape; was easy to assemble; has a nice display; and is sturdy, light weight, and easy to operate. However, it isn't giving me the results I need. Not having used a metal detector before, I first tried the default settings. The surveyor's pins are made of metal, presumably galvanized iron or steel. Unfortunately, so are nails, screws, bolts, nuts, washers, and other hardware. And it seems my whole yard is filled with rusty hardware! To "calibrate" the detector, I buried a piece of half-inch galvanized iron pipe straight up and down about six inches below the surface. The detector found it easily with the default settings. I then reduced the sensitivity until the detector barely responded to it, figuring such a low setting would filter out the rusty hardware. Unfortunately, I still managed to find an awful lot of rusty hardware! Another problem is that there's a bit of a lag between the actual location of an object and the location where the detector beeps. Sweeping in an X-pattern helps narrow the location a little. However, the lag still exists, such that I wind up needing to dig a rather wide hole to find one small object. I really don't want potholes all over my yard! A third problem is that the detector makes random beeps that I can't reproduce when I re-sweep an area. This doesn't happen all the time, but gets rather annoying after a while. I presume I'm having these issues because I'm not looking for coins or jewelry, but for items most hobbyists would discriminate out. I presume the detector was designed more for those items and, therefore, should work just fine for them.

Lots of features at a good price.
I can’t say enough about this detector. I have used this model extensively and have had a lot of luck with it. It is very accurate and easy to read and understand. I bought this model because I had such luck with one I borrowed from a friend. It is very well priced and you won’t be disappointed. Another bonus is that it is made in the USA and in my home state! I do have the option, so I might even upgrade to the 10” coil later. Now, if the soil wasn’t so tough here, I might be able to find more!

Very happy, works great!
Works great! Found multiple items including almost $1 in change in about 2 hours detecting. Easy to use, screen is easy to read, very very light machine. Length is very adjustable, im about 6' tall and at full length its comfortable for me to work with without bending over to use it at all.

Well worth every penny I spent on it. I found cans and nails at first then I took it to my creek and found medieval shackles and part of a wagon wheel. Awesome piece of equipment.

Worked for about 3 weeks then one tone for all metals
Bought the Bounty Hunter Discovery 2200 after my nephew purchased the same unit. Worked very well for about 3 weeks. I had gone out 4 times and found some change and some trash. The last two times I was out, I noticed that the tones were all low and indicating Iron, PT, and 5c. I was suspicious so I pulled out some change and placed it on the ground. Quarter, Dime, Nickle, and Penny. I separated them by about 2-3 feet and passed over each denomination. All metals never indicated anything above Zinc. I even Replaced both batteries even though the indicator showed full charge. I Spoke with Bounty Hunter and they also indicated that something was wrong. They offered to troubleshoot the unit and repair it but Amazon was kind enough to offer a refund even though I was 5 days pass the return date. Thank you Amazon for your fantastic Customer Service. And thank you Bounty Hunter as well.

Light weight and easy to use.
I've only found a few pennies, a nickel (about 3 inches down in my front yard), some rusty nails, pull tabs and some aluminum bits so far, but I've only been a couple of places. I like that I can block out ferrous metal and know that what it's hitting on is not another rusty nail. Very happy with it so far. Need to get to the beach or a field and find some lost treasures.

Great Metal Detector
This is my first metal detector and I am very happy with it. It takes 9 volt batteries, but they seem to last quite a while. I purchased the metal detector for prospecting and so far so good. I haven't struck it rich or anything, but have had a little success in small quantities.

Absoluter Schund.
Nach meiner 2. Bestellung und erfolgreicher Lieferung des Gerätes, stellte ich zunächst die mehr als billige Verpackung sowie komplette Verarbeitung des Gerätes fest. Neben der kurzen Anleitung und der mangelhaften Verpackung kam dazu, dass das Gerät machte was es wollte. Mal war es nach einschalten lauter, mal leiser, mal konnte man es garnicht einschalten sondern lediglich über die Entnahme der Batterien oder es funktionierte nichts. Ich kann von diesem Gerät nur abraten. Lasst die Finger davon!

It's an expensive to.
It's an expensive toy, at least it seems to work. Not sure how durable it is, it's mostly plastic and ultra thin tubing. Time will tell all.
