It's fine for booklets.
Works fine for medium duty.

A bit pricey for a stapler, but needed it
I decided to print my manual instead of paying several hundred to have it done at a local office supply, and needed to be able to staple the centers (11x17, 16 pages). This works great, and despite it not being deep enough for an 8.5" page, it isn't really a detriment and lining up the 8 sheets is pretty simple. It is a bit pricey at $40+ for a standard stapler attached to a metal brace, but I needed it and the entire job done at home saved me about $600, only costing me a little bit of my time.

Great booklet stapler
Just don't make it over 20 pages ; -) I like this so much, had to get a replacement when my brother "de cluttered" my house.

Easy to use with a little finesse
I bought this to bind instruction manuals for arts & crafts items. I'm only using normal print paper, but it feels like I could easily upgrade the paper weight. I don't think it's build for heavy duty use, but I've been making 100 booklets of 4 pages each roughly once a month and it's getting the job done. I put stickers on mine to mark where I want the edge of the paper to lay (so it's exact measurements each time; tape would work too but I'm lazy and used P65 labels). Product design-wise it would be better if they embossed a ruler on each side, but my stickers work perfectly. Once you get the feel for where the staple goes, you can eyeball the edge placement. It's a good little device for the price and the amount of binding I have to do.

Help With Jamming
Like some people who bought this "saddle stapler", I initially had great difficulty getting it to staple properly. When I made the purchase of the stapler itself, I also ordered a box of the recommended Bostitch staples. Just wanted to be ABSOLUTELY SURE that I had the correct staples to use in it. Well, what "torture" I went through trying to get this device to staple small booklets I was attempting to assemble. The staples had to only go through a cover and eight pages of regular 20 lb. paper. It just would not work and jammed repeatedly, although the staples did actually fit into the stapler. On a hunch, I decided to try other staples I had in the house. Found some old "Stanley-Bostitch" staples that were laying around and they worked so much better! Having said that though, I only had found enough to do 50% of the current job. At this time, I noticed that the "Model #s" of the two kinds of staples were different. To make the blame thing of some benefit to me, I decided to search all over my city for the old type of staples. Six major retailers later, I could not locate 'em. Finally decided to do a search on the internet to see if I could find a supplier of the "OLD" staples I had on hand (that worked). I did find such a supplier and ordered a supply of 20,000 - hoping & praying that these would actually work in this saddle stapler when they arrived. They were delivered here yesterday by courier, and lo and behold, they do indeed work quite well. The moral of this story is that you MUST have the exact, specific staple in order for this machine to work. DO NOT depend on the advice of the manufacturer as it pertains to which staple to use. Both the staple that works (Model # SBS19 1/4CP) and the one that doesn't work (Model # SB35 1/4 - 5M) are made by Bostitch (sometimes referred to as STANLEY BOSTITCH). Just as an aside, the "1/4" refers to the length of the staple leg and I believe that the 1/4" size is the length you should always purchase for this stapler. The "CP" refers to a type of staple called a "Chisel Point". The chisel point style of staple penetrates the paper better and I always try to buy this type when purchasing staples. In a certain sense, it was just a fluke that I discovered how to make this saddle stapler work half decently. No thanks to the ding-dongs at Bostitch!

Excellent, well designed, sturdy, easy to use
It blows me away how perfectly this stapler is designed and built. My first project was 5 sheets of 28 lb. letter-sized paper folded in half to make a 20-page booklet; adjust your expectations accordingly. I ordered the recommended staples but ended up using a cheap no-name product we had on hand because they were just a tad shorter and looked better. I had no mis-fires; my technique is to line up and give it a whack rather than a polite push. The gadget is well made. The metal is plenty strong - no sense of flimsy - and the stapler itself opens 180 degrees (and stays open) to fill. There are appropriate anti-slip pads where they need to be. Centering the staple exactly at the fold turned out to be fairly easy. The folded booklet nestles nicely on the ridge and comes close to no-brainer perfect alignment but if you want perfection spread your positioning hand over the booklet, pushing away from the ridge with fingers on one side, thumb on the other, and feel the booklet snug into place. If you're aligning your paper with the edge of the stand to place the staple a reasonable distance from the edge, you can also glance at the "peak" of your booklet relative to the peak of the stapler's ridge. If you don't do that you'll generally be dead on or within a staple-thickess off. A plus for storage between uses - it's more compact that it looked in the picture (and Amazon's stated product dimensions are often meaningless) - but it comes in a re-usable box that's about 5x5x12 or so.

Exactly What I Needed!
This booklet stapler helped me make quick work of a 20-page (5 sheets of paper) directory with professional looking results! The shape made it very easy to get the stapling precisely where it should be. So many compliments that I'm afraid I'll have to do next year's updated version. LOL!

faultless small scale booklet stapler
If your ambitions extend no further than A4 folded booklets with not too many pages, then this is a good stapler to use. It is well made, easy to operate and uses standard sized staples. It will probably not be good for larger publications that require more than 16-24 pages. I have used it for quarto booklets using folded A3 paper, folded down to A5 and it is definitely good for 16 pages using this method and adding another sheet is probably okay too. The staples go in cleanly along the fold, outside to inside and makes a very neat booklet. Having a guillotine to trim everything up afterwards is an advantage, but maybe not essential. Anyway, a good product and solid construction.

Reliable and robust machine
Nothing to dislike! This purchase replaces one that "died" after long service. We print and booklet funeral Service Sheets, and have used these machines for many years.
