Great little machine
I bought this Bissell Zing vacuum cleaner to replace a similar Sears model that died after only a few yrs. My 1st Sears canister vacuum had lasted 20-25 yrs, so I was most unhappy when its replacement quit working, which at the time of purchase cost more than 4x the price of my present Bissell Zing. I was unwilling to spend a lot of money if a new machine might not last long. I wanted to try something different. I have been as complete as possible in this review, because I had a lot of questions when I did my research for which I could not find answers. I like this machine much better than what I had. The Bissell is smaller, much easier to maneuver & incredibly lightweight. I did not get tired at all dusting & vacuuming several rooms, 1 after another. The machine is noisy, but the sound is dependent on how strong the suction is, which can be easily controlled with a knob on the top of the unit. Most of the time, it was not necessary to use it at full suction, esp. on bare floors or while dusting, & it did a good job at both. The on-off switch is 1 of the black "buttons" on the top side of the canister, a much better design than the Sears unit, which was on the rod & didn't work after only a short while. It was always "on" when it was plugged in; not good, & another reason why I would not go back to a Sears model. The other black "button" controls the cord retraction, 1 of my requirements. The attachments are made out of plastic & I hope they last, which is why I gave the Bissell 4 stars instead of 5. They look cheap after having had a much sturdier machine. The set doesn't come with a dusting brush (but it can be purchased separately). However, the one I had from my Sears unit fit perfectly & works fine. I prefer dusting with a vacuum cleaner, so having a good dusting brush & a canister machine are important to me. The floor/carpet attachment is not very wide, only 10", & is narrow, which aided in the improved maneuverability. I was able to get in places impossible with my old machine, like behind the toilet. The height of that attachment is less, too, so that it easily fit under a bookcase which had short legs. The end of it where it attaches to the hose swivels 360 degrees, which helps. That end also has a molded piece on its side which fits in a groove on the bottom of the canister for more compact storage. There is a lever on top of the floor attachment which allows a bar to come down, on which is a row of non-continuous brushes. The set doesn't come with instructions other than on the side of the box, so I took it that the brushes are to be used on my hardwood & linoleum floors to prevent dragging the plastic bottom over them. There are also 2 small wheels at the back of the floor attachment. The brushes quickly pick up hair & dust, which I ended up removing manually. I only have a couple area rugs & throw rugs. On the bottom of the floor attachment are 2 tiny strips, just under 3" long, on either side of the suction hole of another kind of textured plastic. I think these are the only contact points for vacuuming rugs. I had to turn the suction to the highest point to vacuum an area rug, but needed less suction for a small bathroom throw rug. It did an adequate job, although I do have an upright Eureka vacuum cleaner that I could use instead. The rod is made out of a lightweight metal & the upper half telescopes into the bottom half, which is an interesting design. With the floor attachment on, the length to the top of the metal rod is almost 3 ft. The end of the hose has a curved hard plastic section which is the handle & it adds about another 9" to the height from the floor. I am 5'3" & had no trouble using this unit. I did not have to lean over & my back did not hurt afterwards. Toward the end of the "handle" there is a sliding piece that can be pulled back to expose a small hole to lessen the suction even more if desired. The hose is 4'9" long in the flexible part (between the attachment to the canister & the handle section which is part of the hose) & easily swivels 360 degrees, much better than my former vacuum cleaner. The bottom attaches to the canister with a simple locking twist. All the other pieces push together & are tight enough that they don't fall off. In fact, I once pushed the end of the hose into the top of the rod with enough force that I needed my husband to detach it, but he had no problem. There are some other small attachments. One is a brush for cleaning upholstery, which I haven't used yet. It is about 3" long & has 2 thin strips of very shallow soft bristles on either side of the suction hole. The other attachment is a little over 4" long & is for narrow confined spaces. It works well. On the end of it is a piece that can swivel out and has a U-shaped brush, 1 1/4" long & 3/4" wide, with bristles slightly longer than 1/2". I'm not sure what it is for. Again, I wish this vacuum cleaner came with complete instructions. There is another plastic piece (shaped like 2 C's back to back). One side fits over the bottom of the metal rod & the other side holds the narrow space attachment so that it is always close at hand while vacuuming. One thing I found surprising is that the vent holes are on the top back of the canister & they emit quite a bit of heat, which might be uncomfortable in tight quarters. Inside the cleaner bag slips on a plastic clip. It seems like the compartment space may be smaller than other models. I am not sure how quickly the bags will fill up, since I have only begun to use my vacuum cleaner. There is a small window on the top of the canister which indicates when the bag is full. So far, I have been pleased for the ease of use at such a great price. It is a cute little machine & I even like the purple color.

Excellent vacuum for the price with unusual features
I renovated my house 5 years ago and have had bare floors for the first time in my life. It's been a hit and miss game to find a cleaning system that works for them. I had a Dyson vacuum for the carpet but it turns out that it doesn't work very well on bare floors. I was using a shop vacuum from my garage but that thing is so awkward and big to lug around. I decided to get a tank vacuum instead of an upright because I needed something that got into crevices and the wands on the uprights are so inconvenient to take in and out of the handle (the Dyson is good for being annoying in this regard). Since Bissell is a brand that I knew, I got this model because it was a small tank and it has wheels on the bottom so that it just slides around with me. First, the vacuum is easy to put together. You just slide the hose and wand together and place it on the tank. This is a bagged vacuum and Bissell thoughtfully put the first bag in the vacuum for you so you can see how it goes together and can use it right off the bat. I've had bagless tank vacuums and those things were terrible to clean. I have a cat and random litter that she tracked out of the litter box just ruined the bagless tanks and caused a smell that I could never get rid of even when cleaning. Having a bag just eliminates the dust and general mess. What I like about this vacuum is the little features that I didn't know it had. These make the vacuum incredibly convenient for me (which means I'll use it more often): 1) The cord is contained within the vacuum itself and retracts back in when you're done with it. I don't have to straighten the electrical cords anymore! Unless you've had to try to unkink an electrical cord every time you use a vacuum, you have no idea how nice this is. The cord is longer than other cords I've seen on this type of vacuum but you would still need an extension cord if you don't want to plug and unplug every time you go to a new room. 2) A feature which I've never seen on a vacuum before is that you can adjust the suction from very low to very high and anywhere in between using the dial on the front. This allows you to avoid sucking in curtains, fabrics and cat toys into your vacuum when you're trying to clean them (the curtains, not the cat toys). 3) There are two attachments - one is a small upholstery brush to use for curtains, your couch, etc. The other is a crevice tool with a brush on it that is exactly the right width to go in the tracks of your window frames. I've spent a long time trying to find a convenient way to clean those tracks and now I have one. 4) There are only three buttons on this thing - power, button to retract the cord and the suction. The buttons and the dials are very big so if an older person who had arthritis problems or other issues with their hands, this vacuum would work great for them. 5) The wand retracts more than what is shown in the picture. It retracts to a length that is more than comfortable for a person to stand upright and vacuum. 6) There is a large lever on the sweeper end that you can use to switch from bare floor to carpet and back again. However, this vacuum is really better for bare floors (tile, wood, etc.) than it is for carpeting. It would take a while to vacuum a large carpeted room and it seems to take quite a bit of effort to push on the carpet even with the correct switch engaged. You'll want to go back to an upright if you have carpet. 7) Having said that, I do have carpeted stairs going to the basement and this worked GREAT for that. The vacuum is incredibly light and you can just carry it with you when you go up and down stairs. Again, this would work really well for an older person. 8) There are three wheels on the bottom of the vacuum. Two big ones on the end and a small one right in the middle of the vacuum. The smaller wheel enables the vacuum to lay horizontal as you're dragging it around. 9) There is a bag change indicator light on the front that turns orange when you need to change the bag. I haven't had this before and have had some dust-ups (pun intended) when I tried to change a bag that was too full on another vacuum. 10) The vacuum has a pretty small profile so storing it has not been a problem. Things you may want to think about: 1) The vacuum requires two different filters. I haven't had to clean the filters yet because this vacuum is so new. The two filters and their Bissel part numbers are pre-motor filter (203-8426) and post-motor filter (203-8427). According to the manual, the filters are removable, can be washed by hand and then replaced. I assume you would only need to buy new filters if they became damaged or torn in some fashion. 2) This is a bagged vacuum (Bissel part number 213-8425). The vacuum comes with three bags already (one inside and two extra). Amazon sells the bags and the price is more than reasonable. Just put in that part number and you will find plenty of bag options. 2) This is a vacuum for your house only. It would not stand up to cleaning your garage or any outside application. The manual specifically says that trying to vacuum things like large rocks, plaster, concrete or ashes will damage the motor. You could use it to vacuum the inside of your car but if you've got a large amount of the materials listed above in the car, you won't want to use it for that either.

Works good for the price
Nice suction, does take some getting use to, but convenient being able to take it up and down stairs, cleans very nice and does not get all clogged up like the bag-less one I had from same company, I always felt that the bag type vacuums are better, I feel its got better suction and the cleanliness is a factor as well - no real dust when cleaning - I don't need to go outside to clean the dirt container and clean out the gobbed up hair that get's stuck in the venturi of the dirt container, you might save a few dollars on no bags but considering having to breath all that dust and then have to reach into that dirty container to grab the knotted up hair - well you can imagine how much better a Bagged Vacuum can be!

Not bad, great suction, needs longer cord
Came very quickly. Great power and suction. No beater bar and the floor bar is mediocre, doesn’t always pick things up. The cord is WAY too short, that’s the main downfall. Great for cleaning dust and ceiling fans, very lightweight, easy to carry and vacuum at the same time if you have to get up high etc. If you buy the horse hair brush with it, it makes a fantastic vacuum for dusting high places, shelves, all the corners and baseboards, etc. Not the best for full floor vacuuming.

Great little vacuum
Great product does what it says. it's loud on it's highest setting. It has 2 filters one inside the bag compartment and one outside on the back. The hose and the attachments are cheap plastic hence don't know how long those will last. Bags are affordable. Has a decently long cord. It's very light. It has great suction power. Very satisfied and delivery was fast. LOVE IT !!!

Great Little Vacuum! Pros & Cons
Good little vacuum! I got this vacuum for my 3 bedroom apartment which has hardwood floors and one decorative carpet in the living room. Pros - It is significantly stronger than the last vacuum I got from Wallmart for a similar price. I am impressed with how well it sucks up cat hair and dust from the carpet and regular floor. Some reviews mentioned the cord isn't long enough but it is more than long enough for me and seems like a very regular length of cord for a vacuum. Cons- It only comes with 2 sections of stiff pipe and could use a 3rd for tall people or to reach ceiling corners. It is also pretty loud.
