Powermatic moble base

This is a nice base but the one feature that is missing is the ability to disengage the front wheel. I have mobile base for my other equipment and they all have the swivel wheel disconnect. The Powermatic wheel has a lever that mast be push down to lock it but it can still move.

Powermatic mobile base for 54A jointer

Purchased the base on Amazon in January and received promptly and with free shipping as advertised. The mobile base had a good finish, nice ball bearings on the hard rubber wheels. When i installed the Jointer, fit was perfect. The unit is ridgid and allows me to move the jointer as needed. When locking the front wheel and screwing in the holdfasts into the rear wheels, the jointer is immobile - I couldn't push it forward, backwards or sideways - just what i needed and was expecting. Poor design

I have upgraded several of my tools to Powermatic recently and love the tools. You pay top price and get what you pay for. They should be ashamed to put the Powermatic name on this mobile base. It barely rolls because the wheels are under designed for the weight and the locking system for the wheels shouldn't have made it through the first prototype. I am 75 years old and don't want to get on my hands and knees to screw a bolt into the wheel to lock it. Hard on both my knees and the wheel. The foot operated lock on the other wheel is too small to easily use. The plastic knobs on both of the locking bolts were both broken in shipment. This could be avoided if they were simply taped to the inside of the base. The base was the only thing in the box-no packing materials.

Way too big, barely supports my jointer

My 54hh doesn't fit snuggly into this base at all. This picture is very misleading. The frame doesn't even come close to touching the base of the jointer when centered on this frame. Installing the jointer made me wonder if I was missing some sort of adapter or if I was supposed to build one or something. The mobile base is too wide, and supports only an inch or two of each of the 4 corners of the jointer. Moving the jointer against the edge of the base causes the opposite end of the jointer to fall through. Placing the base of the jointer onto the mobile base is a centering-act. I worry that continuous vibration could cause the jointer to migrate along the base and eventually fall through it. I don't like moving the jointer on this base along my garage floor, and I wouldn't dream of moving the jointer on even the smallest slope sort or bumpy surface. The poor packaging caused one of the cheap plastic wheel locks to break off in shipment. I had to break off the rest of the sharp plastic and use pliers to twist the bolt to lock and unlock the wheel. I hate operating my jointer on this thing, and will have to secure the base somehow to keep it from swiveling, which it does even with all wheels locked. I'll be shopping for another base and going through the headache of migrating my jointer, or perhaps building some kind of adapter.

Great potential but too many small issues.

This is the second base I purchase from powermatic. The first was for a bandsaw. First, the packaging is almost non excistant. Other than a thin walled cardboard box there is no protective packaging. In both bases the box came broken because the heavy metal base broke through. Second, because of the lack of packaging again, the cheap plastic lock knobs on the stationary wheels where broken on both bases as well. Powermatic customer service is great so a quick call will get it fixed but after spending money on what is supposed to be a premium product this step should not be nessecary. It would also be better if all wheels rotate for easier positions of the machine in tight spaces.
