incomprehensible directions (and nothing online that's better)
The tool is light and effective. The only problem is that there is NO clear, understandable information on the web, at Swix's website, on the box, or within the Swix "educational" videos. Private folks (also, likely confused) are similarly unable to really explain how to best use the tool. So, while you know it works, you can't feel sure that you are carving the edge-angle you want. They simply don't explain it... and you'll see countless folks similarly confused across the web. Okay, so here's what i've learned: The more advanced a skier you are the sharper the angle of your edge (e.g., 87 degrees instead of 88 degrees for the sides). The base edge (with choices of 1 degree or .5 degree) is generally used at 1 degree which provides less edge-hold but won't cause you to catch your ski during a carve (such as with 0.5). So, 0.5 for more advanced folks. So, yes, this does create an edge and its super portable ... but until someone not yet posted on the internet shows you how to use it, you'll be just guessing as to the edge you have achieved (in terms of angle). Shockingly lousy instructions. My best guess: base edge: 1 or 0.5 ... place file into hole numbered 1 or 0.5 (arrow on cartridge simply points to hole with corresponding number). Side edge: 88 or 87...by placing the file on the numbered edge you want (so that the file is on 88 if you want 88) is the way to go. (note: the file has arrows pointing to your direction of movement (generally tip to toe). That's my best guess (after hours of trying to figure this out). hope this helps.

Good for a quickie
No directions. A little too small to handle. It did sharpen my edges though.

So,so
Didn’t realize that the tool is so small… awkward to work with but good price…

Adjustable depth
Works well, keep your hand tight in the pad. The depth will self adjust if you're not holding it

Research angles based on ability before purchasing
I love this, I just bought a second one since mine is 20 years old. However I just learned my daughter's skis and my snowboard should be 89 on the sides (in other words a 1 according to chart) She's a beginner and I'm intermediate. I've been sharpening for years without researching the correct numbers. This device is better for experts and racers not beginners.

Works as intended
First of all, the product description on Amazon is correct: it can only do 88/87 degree side edges. Swix Web site for this model, TA3001, is outdated and wrongly stating 89/88 degrees. The tool worked fine as intended on a couple pairs of skis, and I even succeeded in using it to re-tune the side edges of a pair of Rossignol kids skis from 89 to 88 degrees; It took many strokes, but at the end, edges were sharp, and the file did not become dull. Will see how long this tool will last. One star deducted for the instruction on the package could have been better, and the Swix Web site is not more helpful.

Smaller than expected but still Swix quality
Bought Swix to make sure I got good quality. This is a solid tool to sharpen edges on both sides at different angles. It was smaller than expected. I must have missed that this is the travel sized sharpener. This makes it a little harder to handle. Otherwise it works as expected.

Side edge angle is 87/89 not 88/89
Please Note, the edger seems to be well built and quality; however there is confusion on the side edging angle that is offered. Currently the side angels are not listed in the product description, and the product delivered has 87/88 for the side edges, not the 88/89 that are listed in the Q & A. The base is .5/1. This was the case for both the original and replacement that was delivered. If you are looking for 87/88 this looks to get a good choice and value, if you are expecting 88/89, I would research for a different tool.

Simple tool.
This is what it is, really. It is only meant for tuning the edges of the board, not taking out nicks etc. The instructions are simple, depending on the angle you want to put on your edges, you put the file piece in the corresponding slot and slide it along the edge in the direction indicated. I put used it on my Skate Banana, which has the Magnetraction wavey edge thing, seems to do as well, though I cannot get it as sharp as when I first received the product (and before the service at St Anton blunted them all off for me :( ) The only other thing is that this is actually 87deg / 88deg, not 88/89 as described.

Does the job, but is too small, have since purchased an angle plate, and full size file.

handy
A handy and effective tool -but take care that you know how to use it as it could ruin your skis if not used properly. Some better instructions would help. Also, it works better on the side edge than the base. Changing the file isnt easy
