Quality product gives quality lighting to my aquarium
I just purchased a new modular 30" LED fixture from Aqueon for my 36 gallon, bow front tank, replacing a T8 fluorescent tube light. I read many reviews and had a lot of angst deciding what brand to go with, and once I decided that, which and how many additional LED strips to purchase. Reviews, price point and brand reputation swayed me this Aqueon modular unit and I am completely satisfied. I choose to combine one Beauty Max LED strip with the Day White strip that comes standard with the fixture. With just these 2 strips installed (out of 3 possible), I am EXTREMELY happy with the intensity and spectral representation. The BeautyMax pulls out fantastic blues and red from my cardinal tetras, my pearl angelfish shimmers and the reds on my Denison's barbs are as vivid as I have ever seen them. PLENTY of light to reach the 18" to the tank bottom. No intensity issue whatsoever. Colors and intensities are notably better than the Aqueon Full Spectrum T8 fluorescent bulb. Time will tell how my plants do with these LEDs, but trusting other reviewers on this. So, for the time being, I will just stick with the two LED strips. Moonlight blue nightlight is nice. To those who wonder like I did before buying: you should buy "Size 30" modular lights for this 30" fixture. The lights are labeled as SIZE 30, not 30 inches. The actual lights are shorter than 30", of course, such they fit inside the 30" fixture. Perfectly logical, but some of the descriptions on Amazon call the lights 30 inches (Instead of "size 30"), which can make one wonder if they will fit in the fixture or if we should buy 24" bulbs to fit. The number labels on the lights are there to match the size of the fixture, 30 for 30". (This may have just been me overthinking this before purchase.) Negatives, much as described in other reviews include: - Toggle switch between night light and full lights would have been better as two independent switches - Much light escapes from the underside of the fixture, which is a half inch or so above the surface it sits on. I may try to block by stuffing something in the gap - This fixture is surprisingly wide (maybe 6 inches). On my bowfront hood (also Aqueon), the light overhangs the front feeding cover if I center it on the glass strip. Hence, any feeding time will now be a two step process i) slide the light fixture a few inches backwards on the tank and ii) open the front lid to feed. Annoying but I will deal with this. - The way the LEDs catch and throw surface bubbles/waves is a little unsettling to me. Nice to have the water light effect spilling out into the room, but still not sure I like all that "movement" of reflections compared to the more steady fluorescent I have been used to. I do think I will get used to this, and the spectral quality and intensity of the light will make up for any misgivings on this. - My own speculation: is this product being phased out? These lights can't be found in local pet stores, so I do wonder about future replacement. That said, we supposedly won't need to replace for a decade or more in any event. Edit: After more than a year I still love this light. I recently added a 3rd light bar, and rewired the light to allow timer control of all 3 LED bars plus the two blue "moonlight" LEDs. I can have any combination of the 4 "channels" come on at any point in the day. I used this timer:KNACRO PTR4-SP Controller 4-Way Programmable Time Relay DC 6-40V 99 groups time . I used a 10-wire 18 AWG sprinkler wire bundle to rewire the light (i.e., cable from timer up to light). I wired the light switch to trigger changing to specific modes. This was a multi-hour project, requiring some careful soldering and modification of the small printed circuit board within the light's switch assembly (to isolate the 3 LED plugs). So, don't undertake it lightly. But, the result is fantastic. My aquarium now has an automatic daily cycle including all lights off, moonlight, sunrise/sunset modes and a all-on daylight mode.

Best fixture ever - Aqueon stands behind their products
For years I have been using fluorescent lights for my tanks. This was my first LED fixture, and I'm not going back to florescent tubes. The light quality is excellent, quiet (no humming), and my live plants are thriving. This fixture holds up to three LED tubes, so it's easy to configure the appropriate amount of light for your needs. I have a freshwater tank with live plants, so I run 3 tubes, and I have no complaints. The evening setting illuminates 4 individual blue LEDs, which is a nice effect for night. Other reviewers have mentioned that the 3-way power switch (on/off/night) prohibits using a timer to switch from day to night, which is true. Using a timer, you have the option of on or off, which means that you cannot automatically switch to night mode without rewiring the fixture, which of course will impact your warranty. Let me tell you about Aqueon: After using this fixture for 3 years, all three of my LED tubes started flashing like strobe lights. I unplugged it and started on the Google. A number of posts suggested swapping out the power supply. I ordered a generic power supply of the same type and plugged it in. Same flashing problem. Knowing that the tubes contain capacitors, and suspecting that a power surge had fried my tubes, I ordered a single new tube. Same problem! What to do... I went to the Aqueon web site and sent a 'contact us' message to the manufacturer. Remember that this fixture is 3 years old. What happened? Did they say, 'Sorry, it's out of warranty, too bad, buy another one...' No, no, no. I received a PERSONAL phone call telling me they would send a new power supply, and if that did not work, then please send the fixture to them for trouble shooting. I received the power supply today, and the fixture is working flawlessly again. Who stands behind their product like that today? Kudos to Aqueon and Central Garden and Pet. Get this fixture! You will not be sorry. Edit added March 2021 - can't believe I've had this same fixture since 2013! The power supply Aqueon sent me in 2016 is still working great, and the LED tubes are still working just fine (no doubt I have some reduction in light over the last several years, but not enough to make a difference in my tank). 5 stars all the way! And not a single fluorescent or incandescent bulb was sent to the landfill for 8 years... nice, very nice

Late Shipping + Wrong Item
Ordered this along with extra bulbs on May 11th. The bulbs shipped right away and arrived no problem. The order of the fixture itself wasn't so well handled. It shipped on May 20th (the day after Amazon estimated it would be delivered). But okay fine, at least it got delivered. Oh wait. Wrong item. I was sent a "LED Strip Light" instead. It only fits 2 bulbs and has no adjustable mounting legs. About the only thing it has going for it is that still takes the extra bulbs I bought and it is the right size (30"). Unfortunately because I had to buy this as a replacement for my existing fixture that is non functional, I can't go through the returns process and wait another 2 weeks to go through the returns process to maybe be delivered the correct item. My plants and fish are already suffering after having waited for this fixture to arrive. Only reason I'm giving this 2 stars is because the item I was sent it at least functional, even if it isn't what I ordered.

Product NO LONGER AS ADVERTISED
Product NOT as advertised. Only has spots for two (2) bulbs and not three. Also has cheap lightweight plastic hood and no expansion bars. I ordered this for my 2nd tank and it will not work. Will probably keep because if this is the change, no real replacement will exist. Not happy but not worth it to return it and have nothing for 2nd tank.

Fits perfectly where my old CFL hood sat. The only problem which is no fault of the product is that only two of the bulbs line up over the window in the hood so I cannot make use of all three bulbs. That's something to keep in mind if you purchase this to replace an older CFL hood.

This light fits perfectly on my old 27g aquarium. The light in the tank is beautiful and I love the night setting (even if it is manually activated). I'm not 100% how it is working on the plants. My tank has always had plant issue...

Room for another 2 leds!
Much brighter than my old fluorescent light. I just need to add a second bulb and this will be perfect for my 15 gallon.
