Watch your expiration date.

What I love about these strips is consistent, reliable and fast readings. I’ve been using them for years. However, I sent my order back for a replacement due to expiration date issues. While the actual sellers have changed over the years, I have had no issues until my last order. Typically, and consistently, I receive a 100 count bottle with an expiration date at least 1.5 years from date of order. Prior to this order experience, my last order was in June, 2021. Those strips had an expiration of 02/2023. However, my May, 2023 order resulted in being shipped strips expiring 01/2024. I typically test weekly (here in Florida), and sometimes 2x a week if I have issues, so one bottle will easily last a year. I sent the last order back for a replacement and suggest others do the same until sellers disclose expiration dates and stop unloading ones that expire sooner than later, but charge full retail price. Pool cleaning businesses may not care, but the average single pool owner like me does.

Quick and easy

These are very handy for the hot tub. I ordered on 4/24 and the package arrived 5/3, so need to order before you run out!

Colors Tend to Bleed

These seem to be accurate, but out of the 3 different brands of strips I’ve used neither of the other two (Clorox and Leslie’s) bleed.

Great Product. pH is a little difficult to work with

Only issue I have with the product with the pH side. Not saying it is not accurate, just hard to tell where exactly it is on the scale (solid orange in the middle, then dissipates as it gets to the edges). All other readings are solid. Make certain your values are WITHIN the range it can read.

Reasonably accurate

Simple to use and fairly accurate. After using these we had a hard time believing the low ‘hardness’ reading (went thought we had hard water here in Costa Rica) and bought a much more expensive test kit with liquid reagents. Found out the hardness was accurate as were most of the other readings.

Some inconsistency in the odd strip.

Sometimes - like maybe 1 in 15 times, the strips is wrong. I know my pool pretty good, and I usually test once or twice a day. So when I get a result that makes me suspicious, I will use another strip to see if it was a dud, and I will likely get a good reading of the second test. I always dip 2 feet down into the same spot of the pool that has been circulating between medium and high for hours. I have noticed that when I suspect a strip is wrong, the colours have started to bleed from one square to another. Like colour running off the strip, even though the strip is being held horizontal. I do try not to shake the water on the strip to avoid this. Sometimes they just bleed a bit. So far I have been using this as an indicator the strip is a dud. Perhaps the chemicals from one square get taken up by another square because they are so close together and this alters the test result. They're still very accurate strips, and I compare the output to the professional results I get from my local pool store's detailed analysis. Like I can go into the store and say "I think I need like 10 stab' tabs" as I hand them my water sample. Or "I don't think I need anything today." And I'm usually right or very close (I always do my own calculations before I go). Just know your pool and realize that if you see something that doesn't make sense, and the strip is bleeding some colour, that you should "get a second opinion" by dipping a second strip.

Ph reading consistently lower than true value

I find these strips most useful for monitoring chlorine levels. Free and total chlorine is pretty accurate compared to the pool shop test. Alkalinity, calcium and cyanuric acid levels seem to be fairly accurate compared to the pool shop, but since these levels don’t change that much over time, I rely more on the pool shop to tell me when and what to top up. The main issue is the PH consistently reads much lower than true. This is annoying because along with chlorine, ph is the other value that moves around a lot and you need to monitor it for when acid is needed. Therefore, I use the strips for fine tuning my chlorine production, and go to the pool shop every few weeks for a complete analysis. Possibly I have a dud pack, maybe the next one will be better.

Includes total alkalinity and cya acid which is very accurate

I bought this to compare with the testing of my full Taylor 2006 kit so I could trust it’s quick readings. This tells a pretty’s accurate story of your pools water stability and sanitation. The only thing I didn’t find helpful was total chlorine. My Taylor kit indicated I had no combined chlorine so I didn’t understand that reading I’m sure there is so much more that I don’t understand. I use this for a quick check now and get my full Taylor kit out to calculate chemical adjustments if indicated. I hope this helps. There is so much info out there, so research and go with what works for you. If you have a chlorinator guaranteed your cya acid is too high which messes with your balance. Only fix for that is new water.

These work as described.

I read a great many pool test strip reviews before buying these. Those available in Bunnings and similar stores had poor reviews, whilst these were recommended by a pool man as the most reliable home test strips. Perhaps a home test kit with various bottles of reagents would be more accurate, but that would also be very inconvenient. Amazon had the best price for these test strips when checking on line or in store.
