You and your hands need this!!!
Years ago, my Mom gave me one of these jar openers because she was so impressed with it. I was young and dumb because my hands were strong and didn't hurt...yet, so I got rid of her gift (like I said, young and dumb). Now I am older and struggle with opening jars. I ended up purchasing myself another one to replace Mom's gift. Every time I use it, I am amazed at how easily it works! I have since bought many, many more for my friends & family. Don't waist another struggle with those old rubber grippers that leave your wrists hurting. If your hands hurt, you won't regret it. Mom's know best!!!

Fits Those Thicker Jam Jar Lids
I have been using my dark blue Jarkey for years and absolutely love it for getting lids open without a struggle. However, the regular size Jarkey doesn't work for the thick lids on some preserves and jams and I dread the hassle of getting the vacuum seal open on that type of lid. This Jarkey has a much longer lip --- about 3/4" vs. 3/8" on the regular sized one -- as shown in my photo. It is made from plastic but I haven't had a problem with my blue one after more than 10 years of frequent use. The trick is to tuck the lip under the jar lid and GENTLY lift up. No feats of strength required to break the vacuum seal on the lid. Once the center of the lid pops up the lid twists right off.

Great jar opener
This is a great tool. Just insert under jar top, gently lift, you hear a little “pop” and voila you can easily unscrew a stubborn jar. Perfect for little ladies (like me) and those with arthritic hands. Highly recommend.

For the larger jars.
I purchased several of the smaller Jarkey's last year for stocking stuffers and they were a hit! The maxi, for larger jars likely won't be used as often but is good to own.

It's good
It works on the deep lids. There are no instructions. These only work on the "quick connect" lids, which are the most common ones. There are 4 or 6 short threads around the circumference of the jar and the lid. By looking under the edge of the lid, you can see where the threads are. You put this thing halfway between the threads. Then you pry up gently a little bit. You will hear the air whooshing it to replace the vacuum. Also some lids will pop up. Once the vacuum has been obliterated, the lid will unscrew much easier. It's the vacuum inside that forces the lid to be very tight to the glass that makes the lid turn hard. Some jars, like Mason jars, have a continuous thread that goes completely around the jar. This gadget won't work on those. There is one method that works on all jars with metal lids. Just punch a small hole in the lid with a prick punch and hammer to relieve the vacuum. The Starrett 816A prick punch has a fairly sharp point and looks like a winner. Don't have a hammer? An automatic center punch with built-in trip hammer like the Lisle 30280 is nice.

Simply excellent!
I've had the standard-sized Jarkey for a long time and I love it. On the vast majority of jars, it has worked like a charm every time, releasing the vacuum that made twisting the lid off the jar close to impossible. One immediate application, one little "pop" sound, and unscrewing the lid is amazingly easy. The only problem was, when I brought home pasta sauce in a jar, or fairly large mason jars with fruit in them (a 3-pak from one of those warehouse stores), the mason jar lids proved to be too tall for the standard sized Jarkey. Finally, the Maxi Jarkey became available and it works like a charm on those taller lids. There's a specialty grocery chain with a variety of "organic" jams with those taller lids, too. So having this Maxi-sized Jarkey is a great thing in my book. Now I can open any jar with a twist-off lid in an instant, with no struggle at all. One amazing thing to me is that Jarkey releases the vacuum without deforming or damaging the lid at all. After using the Jarkey, the lid is in fine shape for reclosing the jar. I think the original Jarkey and this new Maxi Jarkey are a must-have in any kitchen.

Does not work
Do not waste your money buying this. It does not work.I have had something similar in the past and it worked beautifully.I was hoping this was the same thing but it is not.I have not been able to open one jar using this.

Partial success
I was thrilled when I first got this and immediately used it to pop open a Classico pasta sauce jar - the most difficult jars for me to open. Unfortunately, since then it has not worked even once. Every other lid was too thin for the maxi jar key to catch hold of and pop open. So, only a semi- success.

Love these
Love these for seniors!!!

Works.
Works by letting air in the jar, and the bubble thing in the middle of the cover pops up and then you can open the jar.

Couldn't get it to work
Came highly recommended, but I could not get it to work. Maybe me?

awful
completely useless: does not slacken any type of jar lid because the border is smooth and curved so it does not catch the side of the lid. Do not buy.
