OK for the money, REALLY basic
This was purchased for a 5 year old so I was looking for an 'entry level' microscope. This definitely is 'basic'. Probably best for looking at bug wings or plants. It's SMALL. I guess that means it very portable. It's mostly plastic and doesn't seem very sturdy. Just bumping your eye against the eyepiece will shift everything and then you have to realign the slide and refocus. It has no fine focus adjustment so it cannot be operated by someone without a fine touch or microscope experience. Thankfully the child's parents are scientists and can help. We had fun with it at Christmas but I wish I had found a used 'school quality' microscope for the same price for my grand daughter's first microscope.

Not worth the $ for kids use
I bought this for my 8 year old granddaughter. The clips that hold the slide down are of easily breakable plastic which did not last long. the basic design is still the same as a tasco model I had as a kid that I found in the attic. I had to use the metal clips from my old microscope to replace the plastic ones. I was informed by AmScope that because my purchase was a "fullfilled by Amazon" order they could not warranty the parts and should return it. My order was an open box purchase which was like new condition and considerably less $, which is the reason I did not return it. The function of the microscope was good enough for a child to have fun with but the case of glass slides that comes with it is awkward to replace the slides back in it properly possibly cracking them if not careful. I would have been disappointed in this product had I paid full price.

Not for beginners and maybe not the sharpest fine-tuning ability
I may be out of practice, but I had a difficult time finding/adjusting clarity on the slides provided. The kit is nice, but after previewing the product as a potential gift for my 6 yr old nephew, decided to return it in favor of something equally educational but more beginner-level user-friendly.

Take a closer look at the world around you
Metal body and ground-glass elements help to make this a solid microscope. Good case to keep everything together and protected. Kids are fascinated by the little things, and this makes those little things visible. We looked at 2 of the prepared slides and made our own on our first science night. The accompanying book is great, and the quality of everything included is pretty good too. This is a good gift for the budding biologist in your life.

( Nothing too great in there anyway
My only gripe is the box for the slides is so hard to open that we broke the slides trying to get the box open :( Nothing too great in there anyway. Purchase extra slides if you get this. We got AMSCOPE 48pcs Kids Plastic Prepared Microscope Slides.

Great gift for grandkids.....
Well worth the money. A little disappointed that there is a lot of plastic on it, but still well made. Adding the book was a great touch, and the case is invaluable.....

Ok for children to get started but requires assistance from adults.
Everything that came with the microscope is great and informative (esp the workbook) but the microscope itself unfortunately, is a pretty cheap model.

Faltó el libro
Compré 2 microscopios, y solo uno de ellos tenía el libro, el segundo ya no. Por todo lo demás está bien para uso didáctico en niños.
