Too Much Set Up
For the price point you’d think this would be easier to set up. It wasn’t so I returned it. I just went to my local Best Buy and found a more compatible docking station for the same price.

Out of the Box, Read Instructions, Installed, Worked Perfectly
I was in the process of upgrading my home office computer system, which had an AMD M/P laptop, two USB hubs and thousands of miles of cabling and wires. The system was really slow and the laptop spent more time updating itself than in actual service for my tasks and projects. I was really getting frustrated! I inherited a Lenovo notebook, with a flooded key- board and was urged to replace the laptop with the Lenovo unit. So I repaired the notebook, purchased updated software, and the Amazon Basics Docking Station. The unit arrived in excellent condition and I then installed the new software into the Lenovo, including the driver package. I then reconfigured the entire system and literally cleaned my desktop of all the excess wiring and cables and made a really neat appearing system. I was apprehensive when I first started up the system, but the equipment booted up, all the peripherals connected and the docking station brought the video (HDMI) came right up in brilliant focus and color. The display (a 24-inch Seiko TV) never looked better, I can see all the details with no hazing, fuzz or any other distortion. On the hardware side, I had docking stations made by other manufacturers in the past, but gave up on them. They were either slow, like a lumbering dinosaur, or so lightweight that they kept tipping whenever I moved anything around. The Amazon Basic unit has a hefty feel to it and when I placed it, it stayed put. The appearance is total quality as well, with everything well marked, even to the type of USB connection nomenclature (USB2 or USB3) The power supply is rated at a 2.5-amp capacity, more than enough for all the stuff I have. The only fly in the ointment is the base, it slipped out several times before I adjusted the slip tabs, then the base clicked in and stayed mounted after that. I also have a single USB2 hub unit and an USB3 hub connected to the dock. The software self installed and all I did is follow the screen instructions, that's it. I highly recommend the Amazon Basic Docking station, it is well worth the price and a real bargain to boot. As to long term operation, if I have a complaint, I'll let you know.

A good basic docking station...if you have basic power needs
This isn't a full review as I've only had this product since yesterday with my replacement docking station. If you don't have a million devices to connect to your laptop, this seems pretty adequate between 1 HDMI, 1 DVI (with VGA adapter - my DVI to HDMI cable works great), ethernet port, headphone/microphone jacks, and 4 2.0 USB and 2 3.0 USB ports. Everything's pretty easy to set up as per usual AmazonBasics product standards. As far as the price point goes, that's clearly one of the best features here as it gives great bang for the buck - if you want a more robust docking station from Targus or whatever other vendor, you're going to have to spend the money for it. The real reason for this review is to mention that the power of the station is perfectly adequate for most devices but Razer's fancy Synapse software pretty much killed my mouse/keyboard (the devices kept uninstalling/reinstalling every 20 seconds or so) as they required too much power than the docking station could muster. Once I uninstalled the software and plugged into a 3.0 docking station port and one on a laptop 2.0 (so the other 3.0 would work if that isn't an option for you), everything worked fine (2.0 docking station ports didn't appear to supply enough power to the Razer devices either, even after uninstalling the software). This likely isn't an issue limited to this Amazon docking station based on multiple messages about this issue at Razer's site, but just in case you happen to be the proud owner of Razer hardware and think your unit's defective, it might not be. I may revise this review in the future based on how well the station has panned out or not, but in the meantime, this is mostly to let people know that some of the higher-powered bells and whistles accessories out there might be a bit too much for the docking station (or maybe docking stations in general).

Lasted about 18 months, would lose connection every so often and had to reboot
Seems like there are better items that are cheaper. Ones that have 2 HDMI ports and do NOT require a power supply. Trying new $50 one now.

Works!
This has been running for awhile now and I'm very happy with it. I got tired of having a different dock for every brand of computer. Now we have this and anyone in the house can use it.

It works as intended
I picked this dock for use with my Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 12, which has only one mini-HDMI port and I need to hook it to two monitors. Although there single purpose USB to HDMI/DVI converters and it's all I really need, price is almost the same as for this docking station and you get benefits of additional USB/Ethernet ports. So it is a bargain in this case. And it works as intended. I hooked second DVI monitor, switched from my USB 3.0 hub to connect mouse, DAS keyboard with its own 2 USB 3.0 ports, USB 3.0 hub from EIZO monitor, which I connected to laptop HDMI port and not dock. Reason for latter will be covered later. I installed latest Displaylink drivers from their webpage as noted in description and connected dock to laptop. After some drivers installations it worked. I did same thing with my another older Toshiba laptop with USB 2.0 ports and it worked too, but picture lagged significantly more than it lagged on Yoga with its all USB 3.0 ports. Than means throughput of port type you connect this dock is very important here. The reason I connected my EIZO monitor directly to laptop is to avoid lag by all means and also weird thing about such docking setup is that ICC color scheme is not picked up from calibrated profile, but from internal default Windows library as docking drivers doesn't recognize which monitor model you use. This and lag in picture is only reason I gave it 4 stars.

Way overpriced.. all the hubs are
I've had it on my desk for about a week and at this point I just noticed I have almost everything I can plugged directly into my laptop again. It happened one thing at a time. First I had to uninstall the graphics drivers. Just having the hub plugged in with the graphics drivers had it taking over and conflicting with the monitor I plug in to my laptop display port. I keep it there for the higher refresh rate. Next the Ethernet went. It just wasn't connecting anymore. So I plugged that into the laptop directly again. I just plugged my speakers back into my laptop again since the hub only outputs left channel. So I've just wasted what.. $125? I should have just kept using the crappy hub I already had for my keyboard and printer.

It works like you expect it to, and that says a lot
I've had "universal" docking stations like this before, but they always had frustrating quirks. Video driver issues. A flaky audio jack that made everything crackle. It seemed wrong to need the docking station specific to my laptop, for 3x the price. After all, we're talking about gadgets that might add up to half the price separately - a USB hub, a headphone/speaker switch, and a couple of video adapters - the markup is for the convenience of putting these things in one box. On Prime Day I figured it was time to try again, and took a chance on AmazonBasics. And, it works. As transparently as if I'd bought all these adapters separately, with the convenience of one box. How they did it, I don't care and neither should you. Though it does seem a feat, considering it's probably made in the same factory as the junk the competition churns out. Until there are new adapters to worry about, this problem is solved. My laptop is a Surface Pro (v4, the latest as of Summer 2018) running Windows 10.

Great way to expand monitor capabilities
10/10, solved my issue where my GPU could only support up to 4 monitors. Now I have the 5 I had working with room to add a 6th in the future if need be Just a tip, it seems to auto install the displaylink drivers but you may need to download the software from the site, install, reboot then update the drivers from device manager. No big deal but took a bit to figure out

Sometimes USB connection doesn't work
I frequently leave this plugged into my laptop, and sometimes when I bring my laptop out of sleep mode the USB connection will not be working, and my laptop will say "USB device not recognized", and I have to unplug/replug the power cord to the docking station to make it work again. I doubt this is a driver issue because I downloaded the driver that Amazon Product Support instructed me to (I don't have a CD drive in my computer so had to ask them). For example, the USB connection will be fine, then I might close and reopen my laptop and the connection will be faulty. It's kind of annoying to reset it every time. However, when the connection is working it functions just fine.
