Good Budget Litter Box for Small Cats

This is a pretty standard budget plastic litter box. It does have fairly high sides, but it's not especially deep and definitely not what I would call a 'large' litter box. This litter box is 20in in length, and the average cat is about 20in long from the tip of their nose to the base of their tail. The problem with that is that you want your litter box to be 1.5 times larger than your cat. I would definitely measure your cats' length before purchasing any litter box because it's super common for them to be listed as 'large' when it's not suited for a large cat. This would be good for if your cat/cats are on the petite side, but if they are average sized or larger, it's actually supposed to be bigger than this. That being said, this is a super common problem that I've run into. This litter box is a placeholder for us until we can find a stainless steel litter box that's Actually for large cats, since two of ours are larger kitties. Luckily our cats for some reason seem to gravitate towards smaller boxes anyway when we've had larger and smaller sized litter boxes, but it's not what's recommended. This particular litter box is what you'd usually find in a retail store for around this price point, so price wise and industry standard wise, this is what I'd expect in this price point. I just wish they had not listed this as a 'large' litter box.

Amazon Basics Sifting "scoop free" kitty litter box

This item works well as long as you use the proper litter type (clumping with small enough particles to sift through the sifter). I appreciate that it came with 2 pans and a sifter - so, you're not having to do a weird juggling act of leaving the sifter in place to get dirty and then trying to figure out where you're going to put the "clean" litter temporarily while you get the sifter back in place. Something to note: This kitty litter box isn't "high" walled, but is more "medium". This is something to take into consideration if you have an older cat or a cat that has mobility issues. It may be an issue for some kittens depending on their age / mobility, but it should work for most kittens I'd think.

It's deep

I must admit this is the first time that I have seen a stand style litter box. The curiosity got the better of me, so I got it. This litter box is big, tall and deep. My cat checked it right away. I purchased her a private litter furniture, and though this won't fit in it, I plan on using this in our bathroom. To be honest, I'm not sure how this will work, as I like to use litter plastic bag, which makes it a lot easier to replace litter. If nothing else, I could always use this as storage for all her other stuff like her toys :) Anyhow, it is sturdy, just don't drop it as it seems it can easily crack. I'm really on a fence about this. I like it, but is it practical?

Decent budget high sided litter box for smaller cats

The Amazon Basics high sided litter box is a decent option smaller cats that need high sides. It’s not the most ergonomically designed box. The entry is tall which could be a problem for kittens or senior cats. While the product is described as large the interior dimensions are fairly compact which means that it’s really only suited for smaller cats. Our cats are in the 13-14 pound range so unfortunately it quickly became apparent that they didn’t have a lot of room to maneuver so this wasn’t a long term solution for our specific needs.

Really tall box, measure first.

The litter box is sturdy and it does lock reasonably well. It is a really tall litter box, so it's hard to get in there and scoop things out without getting right all in the litter, not really convenient for me. It is taking a bit for my cat's to get used to the litter box since they use regular ones without lids. Make sure you measure before you order this litter box, because it might not fit where you plan to use it. I made that mistake and had to reorganize my laundry room to fit the box somewhere convenient enough to fit.

Wimpy container should be sturdier

This top entry litter box is a bit wimpy and the container flexes too much when filled with kitty litter. I fill it with about 1.5” of litter and when I pick it up to put it in its place i feel like the plastic is going to break. My cat didn’t care for it as well in the beginning, but after I removed his old box, replaced it with this box it took him about two days before he had to go figure it out. It’s been working great so far. The lid is easy to remove the excess kitty waste. The litter box is made in the USA from my only complaint is that the plastic box walls are too thin.

Wish it was larger

This is a good product and very affordable for what you get. The concept is amazing and it makes litter time much easier. However, my cat weighs 20 lb and I really wish this was a larger litter box

Easy to clean

What I do like: This does make scooping out the litter box easier. There are 3 separate boxes: 2 solid and 1 sifter. You stack them with the sifter pan in the middle and the litter in the top box. When ready to clean, lift up the top box, pour into the sifter in the bottom pan, and then lift up the sifter pan. The litter clumps are then easy to throw away. At this point, you can choose to clean the now empty litter pan, or just restack them. What I don't like: These are shallower pans than I usually use. I like to have a good base of litter to a depth of about 5 inches. These pans only allow for 2-3 inches of litter. Because of this, when you pour out the top pan, clumps will be stuck to the walls and bottom of the box that you will need to basically scoop out.
