A relic of the past!
I got this for my woodworking shop. The fine point of a sharpened #2 will always beat a brittle mechanical pencil. This thing is stylish, functional, and affordable. Best part is people's reactions to seeing that on the wall, among all the other machines, as the one that brings back memories from school and childhood.

Suction power!
This unit was on sale for a give-away price! I could not pass it up. It does not come with suction power; or, at least, mine didn't. My Ranger screws on to surface--prefers wood. Still, it is easy to install and remove. I have done that a number of times. I love that it is extremely efficient, durable, and accepts different size pencils/wood--yes, it is that durable.

Works great a must if you have a child that likes drawing and coloring
A million times batter than handheld sharpeners, mounted it on my boy's desk and never looked back, he loves its convenience and how it allows him to focus on his art and coloring.

Just like the pencil sharpener from grade school!!
This pencil sharpener seems well made and sturdy. Be sure to pre-drill the mounting holes before you screw to the surface. The location of a couple of the mounting holes is under the handle so if using an electric drill, it can be a bit awkward to get the drill directly over the screw head. That't why 'pre-drilling' is a big help. I like this sharpener and would recommend it to my Uncle Ed.

Lighter than original.
It’s not the old industrial version of a pencil sharpener that this 65 year young student used when he was a kid….but it’s ok. It’s a cost reduced version of the old version and doesn’t work quite as well. I’m still using it, you just have to really hold onto the pencil well cuz the sharpening blades really grab hold of the pencil.

Very handy
This is a great product. An old school (pun intended) sharpener that is easy to use. Just right for my work shop

Classic Sharpener
Easy to install. Works better than most electric sharpeners. Added bonus in that you don't have to worry about students accidentally knocking it off a shelf and breaking it

Old school
Just like the pencil sharpeners I used in school. Works great, now I am able to keep all my pencils in top shape around the house.

Poor imitation of a timeless design.
I want to love this sharpener. It reminds me of school when we had one in each classroom. Unfortunately it seems, quality is non existant. The sharpener is flimsy and not sturdy like those it represents. The included hardware was a joke. The screws were not even long enough to penetrate the drywall let alone mount to a stud but I could have overlooked that had it done the one thing it purports to do. Sharpen a pencil. It can sharpen it, it chews away at the pencil until it’s sharp. Then it breaks off the end as it finishes forcing you to go again. Every single time. If you’re gentle and don’t press as hard you get an annoying half sharpened end as shown in my photos. Pressing the tiniest bit harder and click, the pencil end breaks off and you go again. This sharpener is great at turning pencils into nibs and not much else. The tooth is too coarse, the bite too strong. No child can operate it successfully. This product is proof that making something cheaper, isn’t always as important as making something proper.

What Happened?
Growing up, we had one of these pencil sharpeners around at home and we used it a lot. I searched this sharpener out because I remembered it being fast and efficient. The first clue was the shavings. This sharpener produces very fine sawdust so the blades are not very sharp at all and it takes a lot of cranks to get a pencil sharp. The second clue was sharpening off center. It turns out that half of the sharpened end of the pencil is wood! So, you have to shave one side with a sharp knife and risk breaking the lead. I though being “Made in USA” it would be a quality product. Not this one. Did they outsource parts to China? The blades are nowhere near as sharp as the old ones. It also seems less solid than the previous generation. I do no recommend this product.

Not like the old days.
The installation screws are too small to be secured into a stud, they wouldn't make it through the thickness of the drywall. Make sure you have a piece of wood to screw the sharpener to that can screw into the wall or mount it on a table only. The shaft that spins the blades inside was loose in its assembly with no way to tighten it or stop it from moving forwards & backwards and that forces the rotating blades to grind on the gears that make it spin and causes it to jam. When it works it sharpens perfectly but it's nowhere near the quality of product I remember from school & for the price I expected a fully functional piece. Not one that jams the first time you use it.

Not as I'd hoped
We have been using this daily for just over a month now. I'm not sure if my coloured pencils or the sharpener are culprit of the leads constantly breaking it doesn't seem to happen with regular pencils though. I had expected something sturdier, the casing is quite light and it regularly falls off when touched or lightly bumped. I had hoped my 6 year old would be able to use this as he does the one in his classroom, but its become very apparent its safer for me to do it. I only have two children to worry about I can't imagine having this with the mess and possible safety concerns in a class of young children. I had really been looking forward to this so it has been quite disappointing. I honestly would have returned it had it not been an extraordinarily busy month of birthdays and Christmas. From the other reviews I read I almost wonder if mine is simply a dud.

Built too cheap
It sharpens pencils off centre, and I am using quality Staedtler pencils that sharpen nice in my other sharpener (Boston brand). Also, when I removed the housing to empty the shavings the sides collapsed and I had to repair it, the sheet metal housing is too thin and the clips that secure it to the end caps were not fully engaged. Disappointed and am returning it. I don't see anything better in this style on Amazon so I'll have to check out an office supply store. I don't recommend this product.
