Great shoe rack, but you need tons of patience.
I bought this 50 pair shoe rack 2 days ago and it arrived perfectly at my doorstep today. It looked pretty simple to put together, but took quite a while. I cursed the thing out about 15 times because the long poles that connect to the sides kept falling out. You'd put one in, and the other one would snap off, so on. What I finally came up with was I layed the rack down on its side, put all the poles in on one rack, then layed the other rack on top of it and put the poles in one by one. Everything after that was fine. It doesn't take up too much space, I'd say the same amount as a standard high dresser. It's not the prettiest of all organizers, but it definitely is the one that worked the best and I'm completely satisfied with my purchase. The only downfall is now it gives me an excuse to buy more shoes :) EDIT: 11/6/2011 I never go back and edit my reviews, but for this item I just had to. I've had this shoe rack since July and my love for it has quickly faded. It cannot withstand the weight of my shoes (I have about 30 pairs I'd guess) and the bars slip out of the spots frequently causing all the shoes to fall down on top of each other. It is also not the nicest thing to look at. The plastic white holders on each side are now bent and it needs to be put up against a wall for the thing to stand up properly (because of the weight of the shoes). This item is flimsy and if you have tons of high heels and boots like me, the organizer will not withstand the weight. Since I can't return this item I'm hoping to pawn it off to someone at a future garage sale. This may be good for someone who wants to keep their kids shoes, athletic shoes, and other stuff stored away in the garage or something but for a bedroom it doesn't look as nice as you'd think. Instead I'm going to buy a bookshelf and put my shoes on that, which I should have done in the first place. I read the negative reviews but I went along with the purchase anyway because I needed an organizer for my shoes but now I'm left with an organizer that doesn't even hold all of my shoes without bending, swaying, and collapsing.

works for me
I wanted an organizer to handle a lot of shoes. I was hesitant to get this because of the bad reviews. And I think it's a little costly. But being in an apartment, every inch of space should be maximized so I decided to purchase this shoe tower, thinking that I can somehow fortify it to help it function as it's suppose to. Well, the plastic sides are a little thin but the bars that holds it together is hard enough. And the holes to put the bars into really has a snug fit. It was a workout actually to push all the bars in. You need to wait for the click, that way you'll know it's all the way in. Although it can be erected by one person, it's better to have some help to build it. It tends to sway during construction and there's a lot of holes to keep an eye on. We worked on one side down and pushed all the bars in then aligned the other plastic side on top, all bars to corresponding holes. Put pressure on top afterwards and wait for the clicks. I even hammered it lightly to make sure. For stability, we held it against a wall by the stairs on a wooden floor. I figured it's better than on a carpet. We put all shoes in ... boots of all sorts, work shoes, slippers, sandals. It really held 50+ pairs. I thought it was perfect. I had a strap ready to mount it to the wall in case. It has been five months now, I still haven't installed that mount. The family pushes and pulls at it .... and my organizer is still intact. Shoes are out of the way but within reach. I'm really glad.

Easy to assemble, solid, and holds a lot of shoes
Very Good product for the price. To put it together, just put one side on the floor and insert the rods as shown on the inclosed diagram, Push down and twist and the rods will seat solidly. Place the second side on the floor now and hold the side with the rods over it and simply place the rods info the holes of the second side on the floor. You can now use the side of your fist as a kind of hammer to press the two together. The rods will kick into the holes on the bottom side as you bang them down. Once done, it's surprisingly solid. I have huge feet and got over a dozen shoes on it and it's solid and steady. The rods have a roughness that keeps the shoes from sliding. I'm pleased with the number of shoes it helps organize. I saw a more attractive one at the same price but it only held less than half the number of shoes. I'd give it five stars if it was more attractive, but it would then cost twice as much. I'm happy with this one.

Whitmor is a very good brand
I really like this shoe rack, it looks really nice. It's fairly easy to assemble with some patience. Fits over 50 pairs of my shoes! I highly recommend it!

Good design, easy assemble, and durability.
Don't get me wrong for giving 4 stars for this shoe rack. I actually like it A LOT. This shoe rack is easy to assemble, and it has a very sturdy base once finished. I put all big and heavy shoes on every single rack, but it just stands still like a rock. Boots will not fit on the lower racks, so put them on the top rack. Sneakers are fine anywhere you want. It might guarantee 20 pairs but actually I would say 16 pairs is the actual capacity (All shoes I have are 9 - 10 in size.) It is still a lot of space though. Once I put shoes on the rack, they never ever slip. Overall I would just give five stars for the quality without hesitation! But I took one star off because of the design--it looks good in a typical room, but it doesn't look great. I mean the design is generally good, but I just don't love the material they use for the stand. Maybe you will do though.

Not what it seems...disappointment
I was so excited to get this shoe rack and read other people's reviews on how disappointed they were. However, one person said they used glue to hold it together so I decided I would do the same and the problem would be solved. Not to be the case. Firstly, it was horrid to try and put together as the poles don't even stay in the holes and kept falling out so I couldn't even get it to stay together to try and glue it....it was the most frustrating experience and I am quite a handy person having put together many assembled furniture pieces prior to this. Even when I used krazy glue to try and permanently put the poles in....it still came apart! It was one of the worst purchases I have ever made and DO NOT recommend to anyone.......it had such potential but fell very short and I thought it was rather pricey for the quality quite frankly.

Piece of crap
Might as well just throw your money out. I was hoping this would somehow work out but no, the poles are varying lengths, the plastic is flimsy, the whole thing is Iu sturdy, it was extremely difficult to assemble, and it doesn't even hole fifty pairs of average sized shoes. Do not waste your money.

Try something else
I bought this last year and quickly realized it wasn't stable. I moved and when I tried to assembly it once more, it was just a matter of time. All my shoes were on the floor. Really disappointed.

Poor quality, cheap, look elsewhere
This product did not meet expectations. It was terribly difficult to assemble, did not stay together, the stabilizing poles were of varying lengths, which meant it fell apart all of the time. I had to return it as it was completely inadequate, and buy an alternate product elsewhere.
