Need more rope
Awesome product but the only problem I had was they didn’t put enough rope in the package. I had to cut the 1 piece of rope in half to go around both horns which was hard but I made it work

Nice and solid wood but the instructions are hard to follow
The wood is solid hardwood and in the case of this particular one, it is solid oak with a reasonably good finish. The instructions are not good. I have purchased this particular kit in the past and the instructions are no better now than they were a few years ago. The instructions as to how to cut out the skull cap to fit the antlers is a nightmare. There are some photos in the instructions but they are somewhat hard to see and not clear. It would be great if they would come out with a youtube video on exactly how to proceed. The other issue I had was using the supplied gold rope to put around the base of the antlers. The piece provided just was not long enough. Maybe the antlers were bigger than average but I had to buy some more rope from Hobby Lobby to complete the mount.

Affordable Quality Mount
I had a couple of old antler racks with kits that I had never mounted from a well known department store, and my rack from this year. I mounted my small ones first to get practice with the cheap kits. Both of them were cheap and frustrating. When I finally got to this year's rack (my biggest yet) the kit was such poor quality that it was pretty busted up beyond repair. I went to Amazon and liked the look of it. This kit takes a little more measuring before cutting then most kits do, but it saved me from holes not lining up and antler cut outs that don't match your rack, as ever set is different. You do have to take your time to figure where to perfectly mount your rack and drill the holes, as well as measure your rack and cut the holes for them a little at a time, but the result is much better. The premolded cover is the fashion that the companies are doing now, and it is better than the thin plastic covers that used to rip so easily, but they always seem to look like old tires. This mount is not the black plastic, but a nice tan. It is also a more pliable plastic than other mounts, and with as many times as you need to fit it, that is nice. The fabric rope that goes around the antlers is about 3 times thicker than other mounts. At first I was sceptic about it, but held on, and it hid the showing skull parts nicely. The upolstery tacks went in well for me, but I have used those before, and they do bend easy because they are longer. Use a needle nose pliers to hold them, and tap them in somewhat slowly with a small hammer, and they will go in fine. And if they do bend they sell for a pack of 30 for about a buck. The real wood back was nice too, as most cheap mounts have composite board. They also come in a few different types of wood. All in all, it is a big step above what I can find cheap locally, and even compares well to the ones that sporting good stores carry. I was very pleased and will probably be ordering another one next year... hopefully!

Not as easy as I expected
I wanted a nice looking antler plaque and cover and compared to other DIY antler mounting kits and this one really caught my eye. I actually ordered two of these kits because I still had my antler's from last years buck as well. Going into this I knew that it was probably not going to be easy because cost of taxidermist is not cheap for a reason. The problem I found with this kit is that the skull has to the perfectly cut and level for this to work. This created a problem for me because I didn't have all the tools to grind down the skull to properly prep it to sit flush on the plaque. On the first set of antlers it took me about 2 hours of fine tuning the antlers to get them to sit flush on the board. I followed the instructions to the "T" but I think that was my biggest mistake. The instructions are poorly written so trying to translate what is written and shown in a diagram to the work you need to perform was frustrating. The instructions called for measurements to center the antlers vertically and horizontally but they were actually wrong and I just resorted to "eye balling" it to center the antlers. The kit comes with two 2" gold screws (which I applaud for using gold screws) which is to be used to mount the antlers to the board. Well, they are not long enough. I put the screws in but the antlers were wobbly. Luckily, I had some longer gold screws at home and that fixed the issue. Next, was putting the cap over the skull. The skull cap is a rubber/plastic material so make sure you don't put large pencil marks on it because when you go to erase it erases the color as well :) I followed the instructions on how to determine where to cut the antler holes and that turned into a disaster. Antlers are not perfect so the instructions were useless. Once I got the antler holes fine tuned, came attaching the skull cap. They provide two decorative push pins for this. Well, long behold they bend when you try to hammer them in. After numerous retries I finally got them in, but one of the heads fell off after I got it in. So now it looks like I have a nail in it. Last came the gold rope that goes around the antlers. I learned a trick after this one to put a piece of tap on where you will cut the rope. The rope unravels after you cut it to size so that's why use the tape. I learned it the hard way so now one of my ropes look like crap. The first one took me about 4 hours to complete. I was very angry but I didn't want to hassle on sending the other one back and lose money so I went forward. On the second set I didn't even use the instructions. I "eye balled" everything and with much surprise it was a heck of a lot easier. The only two issues I had on the second kit was the screws were again to short (one actually broke off so I had to use pliers to pull out) and the push pins were a pain in the butt. Putting the tape on where you cut the rope saved it from unraveling too. I will say that I'm pleased with the end product but getting there seemed a lot harder than it should. It definitely looks a lot better than the fabric covers but be warned that it does take a lot of work. I recommend just "eye balling" everything to get center and ignore the instructions.

The Complete Kit
The light colored wood looks great. This kit comes with everything that you'll need - except the antlers! (and hot glue). The instructions are helpful (and correct) until you come to the part on how to cut the two holes out for the two antlers. One has to measure the gap between the antler and the wood and then factor that into the other measurements. Fortunately, the gold cord hides mistakes.

Perfect
Exactly as advertised, exactly what I needed. VERY easy to use. Just remember to pre-drill any holes and it all fits! I used a different horn mount that what was supplies as you can see in the photo. Still, a good product.

I was well pleased with this display
I was well pleased with this display. I didn't give it 5 stars because I'm knit-picky. I velvet form didn't sit completely flat, I supposed from being shipped or stored, and the instructions led me to cut away more material that I would have. Although, the twisted rope hid my errors very well. I would buy this again, but I'd definitely layout my cuts a little better.
