Not bad for a German Shepherd puppy
We had an old super gate which we used for both of my children. We now have a German Shepherd puppy and have set up a large playpen area for this dog. At first, I was lifting and stepping over the fence with our our 8 lbs puppy. I could see how this was a problem and was going to build a wood gate, but found this compatible product. I preferred the neutral white/tan version but they could ship this red/purple one fast, so I ordered. We've had this gate for a few month now and it is holding up amazingly well and everyone in the family can easily open and close it. I was concerned at some of the reviews saying it was hard to open/close or easily broke. It was difficult to see how this gate actually latched because I couldn't see any detailed pictures online. Let me explain how it works. The entire bottom edge (inside and outside) of the red gate fits over the purple fixed wall section. You can't just swing the gate open, you must first lift it up. Both the hinge and latch side of the gate lift up about 3/4" then you can swing the gate open. The gate latches with a slide switch on the top by the handle. So to open the gate you grab the handle, push slide the button to release the latch, then pull the entire door (hinge side and latch side) up, then swing the door open. To close the door, I swing it closed, and look at the latch side to make sure it is lining up with the latch hole. Sometimes the entire fence can bend and flex, it causes the purple fixed section to flex and not always align good enough for the door to close. If the latch does not align latch hole when I'm closing the gate, I use each hand to lift the fence off the ground, I lift the section (just barely off the ground) to the left and the one to the right of the gate (the ones beside the gate and not the gate itself) and try and take the tension off the gate, so it is not flexed and sits straight. After doing this, the latch aligns and the door can close and latch. Once the latch is in position, you push down the entire door (hinge and latch side). It locks the entire bottom edge of the red gate over the purple fixed section. My German Shepard could barely peek their head over the fence when they put their front feet up on the edge when we got them at 8 lbs. They are now about 40 lbs. and they can shake the entire fence with considerable force. They behave very well, so that helps, but the door is holding up very well and is plenty strong if setup and used properly. Some people complain that this fence section didn't have the "teeth" on the connectors section parts of the purple fence. The reason there are none of these "teeth" like other fence sections have, is because these put a lot of strain on the fence when you flex it and force it into position (changing the angles). If this purple gate section was subject to that stress it will break. As a result the connection sections are smooth on the purple fence section. I configured my gate to swing inside, so any pushing or jumping from my dog outward could not result in the door swinging open. I'm sure this door will last as long as I need to use it with my dog as they grow larger. I have no doubts as to its strength. However, my dog is getting large enough to shift the entire play area and lean over and grab outside objects. That would be more of an issue than the door strength. If I still need this play area for my dog and that becomes a problem I'll probably zip tie some weights on the outside bottom of each fence section to add more stability to the entire fence.

Not great
I works by does not seem as sturdy as my play yard. I also don’t like that is almost impossible to open with one hand as the hook is difficult to get out. Another negative for me is the color, my play yard is gray and I have to have yellow/red/purple added as they don’t make it to match.

Very versatile!
This product was purchased to use with dogs. We are so pleased as the pups grew, and our space changed due to a move, this product was always able to accommodate our needs. It’s a bit tricky to understand the attaching/detach mechanism but once you get it it’s so worth it!! This product is easy to clean!!

Easy to use
The gate is easy to open. Closing is a little challenging as you have to ensure it is lined up. I keep it locked since my 4 year old likes to try to open it and I need to keep my 10 month old safe.

Flimsy
Not the sturdiest. For the $$ get a metal one. We have ours going straight across a long area straight area amd secured on the ends and the average size 1 yr old can push it down. We payed extra to also get the gate opening extension. Still flimsy

Not sturdy enough for a toddler
I had a 10 panel North State pen set up for a 4 pound puppy. It was great until I removed a two-panel section and installed the two-panel gate extension. After just a few days I noticed stress marks appearing on the top gate hinge. If the gate is left open it pulls at the hinge and makes that side of the pen more unsteady. I had to place a very heavy hammer on the floor to prop the gate up to keep uncessary pressure off gate hinge. Even when the gate is closed that section on the pen is wobbly. I would NEVER turn my back on a toddler with this gate extension installed. I'm using it for a 4 pound puppy. As soon as she's completely house broken the gate extension will be removed immediately. Bottom line: the gate extension is dangerous, especially for toddler.

Much Safer Way to Get In and Out of Play Yard
This has made getting in and out of the play yard with my year old son so much easier and safer. I only had to trip and fall on my face once to decide to purchase this. Thank God I wasn't holding my son when I fell. Yes, it's more expensive than it should be. But when the options are continue stepping over the side of the play yard, risking falling again and possibly injuring myself or my son or paying $50 for a gate, the $50 is worth it. I would never forgive myself if I fell while holding him and he got hurt. As for quality, it's the same plastic as the grey play yard and the same quality. Yes, the gate part is a bit more wiggly than the solid wall piece, but that's because it's a gate. It's never going to be as solid as the wall pieces due to the fact it's made to open and close. I have no problem opening, closing or latching it one handed. Though I have found it's easier to latch if I use my foot to steady the base. And the latch lock is a nice feature, though unnecessary at this time, since our one year old hasn't even come close to figuring out how to open it himself. We've been using it for a month now, and it's opened and closed multiple times a day and seems to be holding up well. That includes the rigorous workout my son puts it through, as he likes to sit outside the play yard and swing the gate back and forth. We have our play yard set up in a roughly circular shape and it's very sturdy, even with the gate. It If you try to set it up so that the gate and it's side pieces are alined straight with each other, it's going to feel flimsy. You have to set it up so that there is a slight bend at the connection between all the sections, that gives the entire structure stability so little hands can't push it over. Only wish they would make a gate to match the grey play yard. But as my husband pointed out, the bright colors make it really easy to find the gate.
