love the ticking but didn't get the one shown.
Other reviewers said this ticks loudly and that's why I purchased it. I really like how the ticking reminds me of being on task every second. With other timers I have a tendency to set it and then forget in the middle of my task that I was being timed and then would get distracted on the computer doing something else. The ticking for me serves as a great reminder for as long as I hear it to be on task. I removed a star because I didn't get the color shown. Instead of red and silver I received a green and black one. Which does not go well with the rest of my decor, so I may return it for that reason.

No batteries needed
This is the second time I have bought one of these timers. I purchased two 5 or 6 years ago. They are magnetized and I store them on the side of my refrigerator. The timer uses kinetic energy not batteries. Twist up to 60 minutes and then back to minutes that are to be timed. No batteries is a great plus for me. The plastic will break if one drops the timer enough on a hard kitchen floor. 5-year useful life of a $9.27 timer and no battery costs is good enough for me to by an identical replacement.

Never worked very well
No a very loud ringer, then after about the 3rd time using it, no ringer at all. Just stopped making any sound.

Worth every penny!
This timer has been incredibly effective with helping my kindergarten students to visualize time. It brings an abstract concept down to a concrete level that they can understand. I feel like I've already gotten my money's worth out of it after the first 8 days of school! I think $12 is a small price to pay for saving the sanity of anyone who is a teacher or parent of young children (or older kids who struggle with time management.) It helps the kids understand our schedule without constantly asking when we're going to recess, the bathroom, home, etc. Before we travel up the hall for a bathroom break, I use the timer to show them how long they'll have until their NEXT potty break, and it really helps the kids decide if they need to go to the bathroom or not. Sometimes I set the timer for the length of a lesson and if the kids are starting to get off task, I can say, "Oh, look, there's not much red left, we better stay focused!" After 8 days of school the kids are already using it to monitor themselves without my prompting. I agree with another reviewer who loved the way the red section follows the typical clockwise progression of time (unlike the Time Timers that show everything backwards on the clock face.) I bet that by the end of the year, some of my smart cookies will have a clear mental picture of 5, 10, 15, 30, 45 minutes and it will help them with learning to tell time on an analog clock in the future. The timer makes a ticking sound, but we don't find it disruptive or annoying. The bell that rings has a medium volume, and stops by itself after a short time, which works fine for us. I know that some reviewers have said that their timer stopped working after a while. I've only had to return a few items to Amazon (mainly due to items being damaged during shipping) but I've found the process amazingly simple. Plus the timer has a lifetime warranty from the company...So, in my mind it was worth taking a chance, and I will definitely get another one if/when this one wears out. I will be showing the timer to the parents of my students at open house next week. I think it would be very useful at home for encouraging kids to use their time wisely while getting ready in the morning or doing homework. And who wouldn't love a family road trip without the kids constantly asking "Are we there yet? How much longer?" If the timer breaks, I'll update my review, hopefully with positive comments about the way Amazon/T-fal honored the lifetime warranty and efficiently provided a free replacement.

Perfect Visual timers for Classroom
I had originally found these years ago, and just recently needed to replace one after my it got in the hands of a rowdy 1st grader. I love how I can set the timer and stick it to my board or another magnetic space and it works as a perfect visual reminder for the student, or group of how long they have left to complete the task at hand. This green is very bright, which makes it easy to see and locate around the room.

Decent design, poor construction
I had high hopes for this, especially since I like the size and magnetic back, and it's much cheaper than the Time Timers. Despite some other reviews claiming shoddy quality, most said their defective units were replaced without much hassle. Ours literally fell apart within a day, without being dropped or roughly handled at all. I thought briefly that I could just reassemble it, but it proved to be more hassle than it was worth. When I considered having to deal with a replacement breaking again at any point for no good reason, I decided to just wipe my hands of it and get a refund. It would make a lot more sense to me if they just invested in slightly higher quality products and construction instead of using those profit margins to absorb the cost of replacing all the defective units they ship.

Timer for Children with AUTISM
My daughter, 8, is autistic and this timer works like a charm to help keep her on track and let her know that her study sessions will not last forever. Many of the timers for autism set the numbers backwards and that is not good visually with the numbers going against the expected clockwise direction of a clock. It is already difficult enough for my daughter to tell time. When she first worked with the backwards numbers timer we first bought, it really messed with her time telling technique (the numbers are reversed). She had to relearn the direction and 5 minute increments of telling time. This T-Fal ingenia has the numbers in clockwise order and follows the natural order of things, thus not confusing my daughter because it follows the order of a normal clock. The timers have held up well with my three children under 8 constantly taking them off of the fridge, setting them, hiding them, and then playing find the timer. I am impressed they haven't broken yet. The magnet on the back is much stronger than i had expected. it does not move at all when my daughter's metal door slams. impressive. it keeps good time and unlike some similar timers, you don't need batteries or have an incessant beeping at the end of the time cycle. I recommend this product to my friends and to all parents of autistic children to help them gain a better feeling for the passage of time and in helping break up homework sessions up in order to reduce anxiety and fatigue. Cooking? I have no idea... but I know they work great for my girl!

It works great for that and all the kids love it and ...
I bough this for my high needs children to help them understand the concept of time. For example when we have 5 minutes till it is time to start getting our shoes on in the morning to leave the house I will set the timer and tell the kids there is 5 mins and they can all see the time go by and hear the timer go off when the time is up. It works great for that and all the kids love it and have starting asking me to use it more as they like knowing the time on there own and being able to see it. the problem with this is that I found after using it for about 2 weeks it is starting to brake. It is now starting to stop at random times and does not count down. while it gets a lot of use in my house by me and several rough kids, I had expected it to last a little longer than two weeks. The concept is great but the product is poor quality.

Too Loud
I ordered 4 of these to use to help students monitor their time management. However, I was disappointed to discover that there is no switch to turn off the noise-- as most VISUAL timers have. SO, when this timer rings it's very loud and distracting-- defeating the purpose of the purchase.

Just don't!
This is a total piece of garbage...and I say this with extreme accuracy. I understand that a lot of times people rate a product poorly because they were in a bad mood, and the product didn't meet their expectations and maybe their expectations were high...so although I read a lot of negative i figured for the price and the brand that we would give it a shot...and if it broke in a year well...it still would've been worth the 14.99$. Wrong! It has a very practical magnet on the back so we like to put it on the fridge door..we use it for the kids, for us, for food...and my daughter ( who is 6) grabbed it off the fridge so she could adjust the time and it fell...maybe 2 feet. And now it doesn't work..at all..it ticks but it doesn't show you time. I have bought dollar store timers that have been through much more and lasted longer. 2 months..that was it's life span. R.I.P knock off Time Timer... Your potential will be missed. Don't buy this.

Only lasted a few weeks
I thought this timer would be perfect to put above my stove. It has a magnetic back and stayed well enough against a metal rack, but after a couple of weeks of use the timer function became useless. It would make the clicking sound, but it would no longer ring when the time was up. I am really dissapointed. This was a complete waste of money.

We use this for our kids to let them know how much time until we have to leave for school. I wish the magnet on the back was a bit stronger.
