My son gave this to my other son who's 24 for his Christmas gift and he absolutely loves it. He's a big chess fan and he really thinks this is cool

Fun chess puzzles
This is a collection of 120 different chess puzzles. The little ones have enjoyed solving these, and they seem to enjoy this book more than the other chess puzzle books that we’ve tried. Pretty fun, but the magnets in the pieces are not very strong, and it is easy to lose them. If you have kids that love chess, this might be a fun gift.

Portable and easy to learn Solitaire Chess game with 120 puzzles to complete
This Solitaire Chess Magnetic Travel Puzzle from Thinkfun arrive as shown in the listing here. The puzzle booklet when folded measures about 10” x 5.75” x 0.33”, so it doesn’t exactly eat up a lot of space. There is an included instruction manual that is a bit smaller than the actual puzzle booklet so it’s no problem tucking that instruction booklet within the puzzle book for storage. The booklet is spiral-bound and the metal isn’t weak, it’s sturdy. The pages are of some type of plastic, so no need to worry about paper pages with puzzle arrangements being accidentally ripped. The right side of the booklet includes the magnetic playing board, which is featured on both sides of the flap. It’s easy to fold this booklet in such a way so that only the playing board is seen. It’s a well thought out design. The puzzle pieces are adequate. They are a bit chunky, and the magnetic adhesion is good, however you still may want to keep the pieces in a separate baggie or similar to prevent a puzzle piece from accidentally slipping away. There are 120 included puzzles with 4 degrees of difficulty – Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, and Expert. There are 30 of each difficulty. The beginner puzzle are, well, easy, however I found them good for getting a hang of the gameplay. The later 3 difficulties do manage to provide more of a challenge. Game-play is simple. Just set up the board with the playing pieces according to what is seen on the layout for the puzzle chosen. You can move each playing piece multiple times, however with each move a playing piece must be captured until only a single playing piece is left. That’s all there is to it! I like this Solitaire Chess game, it’s something different! It’s great for travel, especially for people like me that like to, “Unplug” and actually play a game rather than mess with a game on a touch-screen and the possible distractions that come with that.

Not fun!
The old version with real chess pieces, easy to setup (place on corresponding squares) easy to learn good for cognitive skills. This version was made to be portable but magnets only have pictures of pieces, very difficult to match the tiny problem puzzles to the board, easy to make mistakes, cheap and not effective for cognitive skill development because no real pieces. The old version was just as portable putting in a bag. I actually ordered real magnetic pieces in Amazon to use with this board. Better.

Scratches part of your brain that you don't use for regular chess game
What a fun puzzle book for the whole family! It is basically problem solving puzzle book with chess pieces. So you will have to know how to play chess or you can probably learn it in 5minutes for this puzzle. Our whole family gathers around trying to guess the answer to the puzzles. First couple of puzzles are pretty easy and makes you feel satisfying. But it gets harder and harder.... about middle of the book you're getting ready to pull your hairs out thinking it is just impossible to solve it, but then someone in your family will come up with an answer. Of course after you see how they solved it it look so obvious that you feel stupid. So you start the next one. Gets pretty addicting. It doesn't give you edge because you're good at chess which make you use the different brain skills to solve the puzzle. I haven't finished all the puzzles, but I'll miss it once I'm done. Because once you know the answer it is easy I hope there will be second book with sets of more puzzles.

Fun
Our nine year old grandson is learning chess and loves to play however there isn't always someone who also knows how to play available. With this he is able to play on his own. It is also something he can do in the car.

11-year-old daughter loves it
This book of Chess puzzles for a single player does provide quite a bit of practice to see and understand the movement of pieces in scenarios you may encounter during a chess match. You don't need to be a chess whiz to play these mini-games, though--my 11-year-old daughter enjoyed playing her way through the book (and she's nearly finished after a couple of weeks). The book and pieces are not premium quality, and the book seems to warp a tad, but it doesn't really affect gameplay. A nice little gift for the potential chess-fan in your life!
