Great kit, but not everything you need is included
I picked this up for my 5 year old who was very curious about germs. I think I may have misunderstood what was included and what specific things you'd need to do all of the experiments. In the directions that came, they indicate all of the things you need such as yeast are included, but they aren't. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what we needed. My kid was most excited about growing bacteria on petri dishes, but we weren't able to do that because the agar isn't included. It's not terribly expensive, and you can pick it up on Amazon but what do you do with the rest of it? It was easier just to buy premade agar plates that were sterile instead of having to make your own with this kit. TL:DR Great kit, easy instructions to follow, familiar magic school bus characters, but be prepared to get a lot of extras to do the experiments.

Very fun and educational
The description mentions light bulbs, buzzers, and circuit boards--ignore that, as none of these items have anything to do with this kit. My 6 year old, who had no previous interest in volcanoes, has really enjoyed this kit over the past week. We are also reading the Magic School Bus chapter book "Voyage to the Volcano" and the two items go very well together. We home-school, so I'm supplementing this kit with extra activities from my own ideas and other non-fiction books and websites in order to create a fun "extra credit" science unit. She's excited, we're both learning, and I was OK with the price of this item. So far it's got 5 stars. It loses half a star because of false advertising. It really bothers me when products like this have embellished marketing pictures/descriptions. The differences between the picture and the actual contents are subtle, but it still bothers me. The paintbrush is not longer than the paint box, the pipette is shaped differently than pictured, the volcano form is shipped in a flattened state and is thus not the same shape as pictured, and the second test tube (pictured inside the volcano form) is the same size as the test tube pictured in the rack--much smaller than the "crater" of the volcano form. It loses another half star for the little details that aren't quite right. The pipette doesn't work at all. The red food dye provided is powdered but instructions refer to "drops of food coloring". The provided paints are ineffective for painting the volcano form. The goggles are unnecessary. The instructions provided do not produce a very impressive "eruption". The product is very durable and we really like the poster and activity guide. When we're done with the kit I'll pack it back up and keep it for when the other kids are ready for it (the consumables are easy and cheap to replace). For a 6 year old, it's good exposure to many volcano-related topics, but fully understanding most of the details is beyond her interest at this time (when she's a bit older, the details may be more interesting, but the activities would likely be too boring). We are both excited to try more Magic School Bus kits/books. I estimate that this time through we'll get about 5 hours of use from this kit, 75% of it with one-on-one adult supervision. I am inspired to try the acids and bases kit, since the volcano eruption activities (which account for 4 of the 12 activities) are more chemistry than volcanology.

Good, fun educational product. See my tip for keeping volcano stable!
My daughters 6 & 7 loved it. We had a lot of fun experimenting with various formulas for the volcano. We used this kit for about two weeks, studying the poster facts, testing and recording volcano formulas. Once they decided on the best formula and absorbed as many facts as they could they presented it to their dad and little brother. Tips: 1. Use a thick piece of cardboard or a shoe box lid, cover with foil to waterproof, then tack down the volcano with 4 push pins to keep it stable. 2. Paint is very thin, and you're painting on plastic. Apply thickly. Reapply a few times, drying in between. 3. For additional learning: Google volcano eruption images and let kids (and you) try to identify shapes and eruption styles. Also, YouTube has a great child-safe documentary video on Mt. St. Helen's eruption. 4. Don't add the dye to the volcano until you've experimented a bit, simply due to the mess. We just saved it for our final presentation. 5. For fun, video your children's experiments then let them review the videos to confirm which experimental formulas worked the best. My girls loved this! Overall, this is a good product. Because of the adjustments I had to make on volcano and the paint not looking like the picture, I give it 4 stars. That said, the information is good. If your children are independent readers this is a kit they can use on their own. Otherwise, you can work with them or read for them then let them record the results after each experiment. This is definitely workable for multiple children, seeing as you can make up as many volcano experiments as you want - our two kids each had their own side of the volcano to paint. I would gauge this kit to be good for kids ages 5 - 12 (curious kids should do more in-depth studies of volcanoes in addition to this kit - books from library, controlled internet research, etc.).
