Great Value Feature Packed Camera
This is my first security camera I have had, and I get a 20$ gift card for doing this review, but I will be honest as they didn't say I had to give it a certain rating or not. I paid 24$ for this camera, and honestly wasn't expecting much. I just wanted a little camera to monitor my pets while we are away from home, and it seems to work well for the task. So good infact I purchased two more. I never seen it explicitly mentioned, but I dont believe it is rated for outdoor use, and I am hesitant to put it outside. So I have two cameras pointed outside through windows, and one inside. This works very well in the day, but in the night the night vision makes a reflection on the window and I cant see anything. The night vision inside works really good. If there was a disable feature for this I think it would work ok because the outside is lighted, but I havent been able to find it yet. I can change between night and day mode, but there is still a glare. Box: Everything is in the box you need to get started. Mounting screws and plate, wire staples, fairly long usb cord and charger, short Ethernet cable. It must be plugged into an outlet or usb port to work. The only thing its missing is an sd card, but for this price, and that fact you can watch the camera live its understandable. Setup: Setup was fairly easy for me, but I am pretty tech savvy. That said its pretty simple. It has voice notifications for setup which is nice. You can set the connection up wireless through the app, but its easier to do it wired, even if you are ultimately going to be wireless. Sometimes the settings didn't seem to take, or the setup stalled out, but a power cycle seemed to fix the issue. Connection: I currently have two of these cameras set up as wifi and one wired. I have pretty fast internet and a good router so your mileage may vary, but they work pretty well. Occasionally the wifi ones will freeze up for a couple of seconds, but they generally work. Wired is probably the best route if possible, but not a deal breaker for me. Storage: You do not need an sd card to watch the feed live. If you want to have your feed backed up just get a sd card, and you can watch it on the free app via desktop or cell phone. When the card is full it automatically overwrites the older file. There is paid cloud storage if you so desire, but I didn't purchase that. Picture: It has a pretty wide field of view that I am extremely pleased with. While it is 1080p, it isn't like blue ray quality. Not sure why, but I would guess the video is compressed for size and streaming usability. Don't see any settings to change this. To me it looks more like 480p, but not a bad picture. There really isn't much lag between movement when you see it in real life vs the feed. Maybe like a couple ms of lag, but not bad. Like I said for a sub 30$ camera I think its great. I would guess your wifi will affect this. I do not believe there is support for 5.0 GHZ wifi only the 2.4GHZ band which I found strange, but it wasn't really an issue. It will not connect to a 5.0 ghz wifi so be aware of this during setup that you are connecting to the right wifi, or you will have issues. Features: You can flip the view for mounting it on the ceiling, it has night vision thats automatic and works pretty well, although when a portion of the picture was a dark room, and the rest was lighted, sometimes it would kick into night vision mode, and I fixed this by panning it abit away from the dark area. Which is another nice feature pan and zoom. The zoom is about as good a my galaxy S7 zoom, but with the medium resolution, dont expect miracles, but its pretty good. With the zoom I couldnt read my thermostat at about 10 feet away, but the numbers are pretty small. The pan works quite well and has a large range of motion. You can also hear audio, and speak through the camera which is a pretty cool feature I was not expecting. AP: The app mostly works well, but like I said there is some freezing when changing things during setup. It gets stuck at the time zone change every time. So I just power cycled it, it had saved my settings from prior, and I go into settings of the camera and change it there. Its nice to be able to watch your cameras from your phone or desktop and review your sd storage all for free. Very rarely the feed may freeze or be black for some reason, and I have to restart the ap, but like I said its not often. One feature I would like that is missing is watching all the feeds at once. It maybe possible to pull up multiple instances of the ap and do it that way, but its far from ideal. All in all, I am very impressed and pleased for what I got for what I paid. They will work nicely for me. The only things that I dont like is not being able to watch multiple feeds at once, and not seeing through the windows at night, but this may be able to be fixed with some googling, and really it wasn't designed for this anyway. So I would definitely recommend this camera, and do not regret the purchase at all. There is some quirks, and its not perfect, but its a great value. If have a ton of money to spend on a camera go ahead, but for my needs its everything I could want.

A Nice Inexpensive Camera but Get a Smart Plug Too
First the good. The camera has a good image quality for the cost, there is a lot of compression though. I haven't checked the SD card manually to find out if it's storing the images in this highly compressed way or not. The pan and tilt is very functional and also extremely quiet, I was worried it would have an audible sound to it but it does not. It's smooth and very functional. I also like that it has an ethernet port, I hard-lined the connection and disabled the WiFi via the app, this makes things much more secure IMO. The night vision capabilities are a lot better than I anticipated they would be and it switches very quickly, though there is an audible click when it switches to the IR night vision and back again. It's also got a nice field of view, pretty much can see about a 85-90 degree arc, though the edges are distorted with a "fish-eye" effect, which is to be expected. App issues / storage issues. The app is absolutely horrible, it is poorly done. I don't know about the Android app as I have an iPhone so the Android app could be amazing. The iPhone app just lacks polish, it's functional but not intuitive nor does it look nice. Text often overlaps itself, it uses a strange custom font which is probably why the text doesn't scale right. There's a lot of things in the app that you have to go find yourself and explore, this is not for someone who wants it to "just work" after they install it. You've got to put the time into exploring the app. I hate the fact that the app advertises the cloud storage and you can't opt out of that it is omnipresent. The cloud storage is also explained very poorly. The app is made by a Chinese company, which doesn't set entirely well with the lack of information about the cloud storage. There's no real notes on who is providing it and what security and safeguards are in place for it. It is bound to your account (or so it says) and it gives the impression that it's somehow encrypted but there is no information on this of any substance. It simply says "financial grade", which could really mean anything. I personally take it to mean that accessing the cloud storage takes username/password information and sends it over an HTTPS connection to their servers. I assume also that it means transactions done with their servers and the camera itself are SSL encrypted, that is pretty standard among banks and the like. There's so many things that just aren't said, what kind of SSL is used, is the data on the server encrypted or is it just encrypted in transit? Can the provider go in and read the data (images and video) stored there? The camera is pretty inexpensive and the cloud storage isn't that expensive either ($6.99 for a 30 day cycle -- which is also very poorly explained). I wish I knew how the cloud storage worked, I have short videos of motion detected that get uploaded but it says unlimited space with a 30-day cycle for that price. I assume it means I get billed every 30 days and that it deletes videos after 30 days unless they are saved. I really just don't know. Given the unknowns for the app and cloud storage I was surprised to learn that there is no interface in the app or via Alexa to turn the camera off. In fact, the Alexa integration it pitiful at best, I don't know if this is Amazon's fault for not being able to use the API's or MIPC's fault for not making use of them. All the Alexa integration does is you can view the camera on your FireTV. You can't pan/tilt form the remote (you should be able to IMO) nor is there a facility to take stills or videos from the TV interface. I was really, really disappointed in the Alexa integration. I highly recommend buying an Alexa compatible smart plug, I cannot stress enough. I gave my plug for the camera a bizarre and long name making it difficult to say or even remember. I can still operate it from the Alexa app, I can use it in routines, and it gives me control over if the camera is recording or not. Tying this into "away" or "home" mode on the Echo is really handy to do. The camera takes about 90 seconds to really start and be ready to view, though I really wish it had a 5 GHz capability on WiFi, I get very poor performance over 2.4 GHz WiFi because my apartment complex is just flooded with WiFi on that band. If you want something that you don't have to pay attention to, don't buy this. Save up or whatever and spring for a more expensive model, look at the app ratings in the app stores and see who makes the app and what they say about how your information is secured. If this isn't for a critical thing or your use case means you don't overly care how secure the data is, cloud storage will probably work for you. If not, get an SD Card, but be aware you're still using it online and so there's not a lot of information on whose running it or what their safeguards are. Just be wary, and get the smart plug so you can limit exposure if needed.
