Accurate and Durable

This replaced the prone to fail bi-metal type with the pointer type I had been buying. It’s a little harder to see the temperature indication though. Overall I think it’s a good product.

A great two-fer

This is the perfect size for baking bread. The level of the liquid and warmth necessary to enact with yeast is ideal. A bonus is the accompanying measurements which determines accurate readings for meat

Great Cheat-Sheet Thermometer!

I purchased this thermometer specifically for my sourdough bread baking needs. It is has a nice classic design and is easy to use and read. Since my bread baking is seasonal (just can't bring myself to turn the oven that high for that long), it is not in regular usage year-round. This is why I really like the design: - Takes the guess work out of determining proper temps for your needs: I do NOT have to remember the proper temperature (or ranges) for what I am measuring. The large, yet reasonable, upper face plate displays easy to read temperature intervals on one side of the glass tube, with the corresponding item (yeast, meat, poultry) on the other. There's even small guidelines to help focus the eye. - Sturdy design has tolerated small drops, tosses, and shoves during my baking and clean-up processes. - Perfect size and shape to fit into my kitchen draws without getting damaged or lost among the myriad other cooking and baking must-have gadgetry. This what I wish was different, and would have given it its 5th star: - Engraved numbers and lettering IN ADDITION TO or INSTEAD OF the "painted-on" ones. As one of the other reviews stated, I am concerned about the print on the faceplate fading after continued usage. I hand-wash it (really more because I do not have a dishwasher - but I think I would hand-wash anyway) and check for signs of wear. - I don't eat red meat, pork, or poultry - but I do eat fish. I believe the general rule of thumb for fish is an internal temp of 165 (don't quote me on this), and while I (kind of) know this, it would still be nice to have that added as a label -- so I wouldn't have to guess on the temp like I did here. - The housing is very sturdy. I trust the protection of the glass tube, but ... I wish the casing wasn't so high up the thermometer. This is probably just a "me" thing, but I like to see the progress of the rising temp gauge. Depending on where the indicator is AND how fast it's progressing upwards, I can usually guess if I'll be with range for my yeast temps, even without waiting for the settled read. Other than that, I really do like this thermometer. It's a great price, so you can easily afford a few for gauging different "meats" that you may be cooking or grilling at the same time (to avoid cross-contamination). BOTTOM LINE: I recommend this item. Enjoy!

When the power goes out, this thing still works

With the price of digital thermometers being so low, why would anyone want this? EMP!! You can make a bread in your GoSun, but if the internal temp doesn't reach over 200 degrees, the lower half of your bread is under cooked. Thumping will tell you that the bread is done, but not if its over done. Just stick s thermometer in it and pull it out at 200degrees

Fabulous thermometer but it hates steel wool cleaners!

This is without a doubt the BEST meat thermometer out there. No bones about it. I've tried others and ended up with disasters on my dinner table. Ever since I bought this thermometer, cooking roasts has been simple! And -- I cook all of my roasts (pork, beef, etc.) on my gas grill outside with spectacular results. Umm. So why have I ordered a second one? Well, I got in a cleaning frenzy and decided that I needed to clean off all of the grease spatters that accumulate on the thermometer. Took a soap steel wool pad (Brillo) to the front where all of the markings are, and in one swipe, BAM. All of those markings were virtually gone. Love this thermometer because it is incredibly accurate, but I've learned my lesson: do NOT clean it with anything abrasive, for if you do, you'll be ordering a replacement!

Old better than new

Old model much easier to read! Otherwise, a tried and true method of monitoring through glass oven doors. Too many lines too close to follow across. My 20 year old one finally bit the dust

It's the one thermometer that is 3-5degrees off of the other ones i have at work. Because of it's closed design, I can't adjust it to calibrate it properly

Seems accurate with a descriptive dial face. It is a lot larger than I expected and is easy to read.
