Perfect for using 1 Protege bike computer among 2 bikes
I have a Motobecane road bike in which I bought a Planet Bike Protege 8.0 bike computer for. The computer is all I ever wanted in that it has all the necessary data on one screen without dealing with little buttons on the side. Something that I noticed about the Protege 8.0 is that it has 2 modes that are indicated by small tire icons on the upper left corner of the screen. Icon #1 is a tire with a knobby tread and icon #2 is a tire with a smooth tread. You can calibrate each to the wheel size of a mountain bike and a road bike. They can be toggled back and forth by pushing a button on the back of the unit when it's removed from the handlebar mounting cradle and moved from bike to bike. I have a Cannondale mountain bike that I was thinking of getting a bike computer for to use for logging mileage, time and avg speed on trails. I looked all over the web for a Planet Bike Protege mounting kit less the computer so that I can utilize the same computer between my road bike and my mountain bike. Of course, Amazon had exactly what I needed. The Planet "Bike Standard Bracket" is actually the complete mounting kit for the Protege bike computer. It includes everything that you get when you buy a Protege bike computer, less the computer itself. It's intuitively super simple to install. If you're a procedure person and require installation instructions, you'll have to use the one that came with the original Protege Bike Computer kit. This bracket kit has no installation instructions, but again, it's pretty obvious what the parts are for and how to use them.

Planet Bike rocks!
You know, when things don't go well at Amazon, it can be difficult to remedy. No jab at them, but the speed at which they process orders (something we all love) means that if something's mis-stocked, you'll get something you didn't expect. When I received the incorrect item twice (rear-wheel kit instead of the standard kit), I contacted Planet Bike's customer service folks. They assured me that it was their role to correct the problem and they made sure I got the correct bracket kit - which is exactly what is needed when your old cable goes bad - mine was approx 18 years old! Thanks Planet Bike, you folks are great! ...and this product is perfect for my Protegé 9 super-computer!

Works great with my 6-year-old Protege 9.0
I bought a Protege 9.0 for my new Fisher bike back in 2004 and once I got it on, I never saw a reason to change it out for something new. After 6 years of use something gave out (Bracket? Cable? Magnet? Sensor? Computer?). I took the chance that it was the bracket/sensor assembly and not the computer, and bought this replacement kit. The swap worked almost perfectly, except the new magnet seemed to be no improvement over the old one - the design and placement of which is a common complaint. The old magnet worked for years, but the magnet/sensor occasionally stopped at odd times. So to prevent that I cleaned the old magnet surface with alcohol and super-glued a small neodymium magnet on top it. Since then I've had no problems at all with sensor readings. :) I'm sure the new magnet would work, but I decided to experiment with the old one first and kept it on because it already worked so well. Now I have a spare magnet. FWIW, the old sensor/bracket assembly didn't work with any magnet new or old, so my guess is that the sensor died. Definitely worth the much smaller cost to replace the bracket system if your computer still works. UPDATED: 11-22-11

Love modularity
The holder broke in a bike crash, so I love the fact that it works with my 2007 bike computer. It is great that Planet Bike is selling this separately so I can take my bike computer to another bicycle.

0 has been working great for years
Over the past several years, I've purchased 2 planet bike Protege' computers and 2 extra mounts. Both computers work well and both extra mounts have worked flawlessly. My original Protege' 9.0 has been working great for years. (I can't remember how long I've had it -- maybe 6 or 7yrs). The only issue was intermittent battery contact at roughly 1yr of use. I contacted Planet Bike. They were very nice and helpful. They young lady I spoke with suggested I simply give the battery contact a slight tweak to help ensure good contact. It worked (and has continued to do so). She said it it didn't work they would replace the computer - no issues. I've been very pleased.

It works, but...
This standard bracket ( sensor for the Protégé computer) did solve the problem that I had with my bike computer, it does have a much larger clamp to attach the unit to the handlebars than the original that I got years ago. There are shims that are supplied to bring the diameter of the bike handlebar up to the size of the bracket, but they are rubber and very quickly slip out and the computer is dangling by the bracket. I am very disappointed by the larger bracket (strap) and had to devise a new method of attaching the bracket for the computer. Surely there must be a better way than providing multiple shims that squirm out from underneath the attachment strap. Therefore, only 3 stars. I am not too happy about the new size of attachment strap.

Works very well, enabling me to use my Protege bike computer on both bikes
Works very well, enabling me to use my Protege bike computer on both bikes (It is designed to function on two different bikes - different wheel sizes).

If only some parts can be sold separately
All I needed was the metal spoke attachment for a 2nd wheel but I had to buy this whole kit to get that one small part. The part works perfectly. Now I have a 2nd wheel that is ready to be used immediately so I won't miss out on an evening of bike riding due to equipment failure.
