(☆HELPFUL Hints and ⚠️WARNING⚠️
Be careful when ordering "Used/Repackaged"! 1st Cannister ordered came with a broken UV Glass Protector, Broken UV Bulb and Broken Control Unit Screen. The Second Replacement came without one of the return Elbows and most importantly " NO O-RINGS" on all the parts requiring O-RINGS (Cannister Seal, UV Glass Protector Seal, and both Hose Connectors Seals) had been previously REMOVED. Let's just say I'm thankful I don't have carpet, but my Sub-Floor is still drying from 15 gallons of Salt Water. ☆ My Solution - (As I needed the unit and because of the Shipping Delays Due to COVID-19, NOT AMAZON'S FAULT) I just used the O-Rings from the First Cannister Filter Main Cannister Seal and the External Water Hose Connectors Seals, that attaches to outside of the Cannister. But because there were NO UV Glass Protector O-Rings I headed over to Auto Zone and picked up 2 Assorted Packs of O-Rings to replace the UV Glass Protector O-Rings and the Outside O-Ring On the External Water Hose Connectors Seals (☆HELPFUL Hint - Choose a Slightly Thicker (but same inner diameter) O-Ring on the O-Ring furthest away from the Insert port (Second O-Ring) to get a Water Tight Seal) . (☆HELPFUL Hint - Lightly Apply 100% Petroleum Jelly or Plumbers Grease to all the O-Rings to ensure a water tight seal.) Now... once I got ALL the O-Rings, both the UV Bulb, UV Glass Protector and a Good Control Screen REPLACED, This is actually a great Cannister Filter. (☆HELPFUL Hint - "The Instructions say to put Filter Floss on the TOP TRAY" "WRONG" [The flow in the Cannister comes into unit then from the Bottem Up through the Media until it exits through the outlet hose at the Top of the Cannister to your Aquarium] so Place all the Filter floss in the Bottom Tray starting with the Coarse, Medium, then Fine Floss or Polishing Floss or use an External Cannister Pre-Filter BEFORE the Cannister Filter using the same Inlet Pipe) [Prefiltering your Bio media will extend the life of all your Bio-Media and Floss is CHEAP and can be rinsed and Reused Several Times] (☆HELPFUL Hint - REPLACE ALL the BIO Filtration INCLUDED with Cannister [Save the Charcoal] if Running a "Saltwater Sytem" I recommend ☆ BIOHOMES Ultimate Marine Media , It has the most Surface Area to maintain Healthy Bacteria to remove Nitrates from your Aquarium and they Infuse Beneficial Living Bacteria into there media to help start up your Aquarium. If running a "Fresh Water System" select ☆ BIOHOMES Maxi Ultimate. Now use the included Charcoal at the beginning in the bottom or 2nd tray after the filter floss to remove cloudy substrate from water for 6 months then Replace with new charcoal or just remove permanently) The Inlet and Outlet Elbows provide a No Hassel Screw On Caps that allow you to Easily add water directly into the hoses and Cannister Filter removing air from the hoses and Primes the Canister Filter Easily. Trust me much easier than most other Cannister Filters which are a pain to get the water flowing easily (Primed). The Control Units Interface is easy to use, simply hold one of the 2 choices on the bottom UV Time in Hours per Day (☆HELPFUL Hint - 2 is a great choice for REEF Aquariums with Corals and Fish) and the Flow Speed Output. (☆HELPFUL Hint - Press FIRMLY until the Screen Flashes, then use the UP and DOWN Arrows to Increase and Decrease your Selection you chose) When Installing the hoses included, I recommend Boiling some Water or Placing a Bowl in the Microwave for about 3-4 Minutes, (Using something to protect your hands place the water in bowl on a Stable Flat Surface),Submerse the end of your platic tubing for about 1-2 minutes to soften the tubing and insert the Barb Fitting into the Plastic Tubing and Tighten the Screw on Tightenor. Simply Repeat the Process until all Connectors and Pipes are Attached. (☆HELPFUL Hint - Fill your sink or Large Bucket with the Hottest Tap Water Possible and Soak the Entire Hose for 3-4 Minutes, Then with a partner unroll and hold hose straight and tight until cool, this will straighten the PLASTIC HOSE and make it much easier to install.) So there are Shut Offs at the Inlet and Outlet of the Cannister Filter so no need to Buy others unless you Purchase a Outside Cannister Floss Sponge Prefilter. Once Again ENSURE ALL the O-Rings are installed, Large one on the Cannister Lid, 2 on the UV Glass Bulb Housing/Protector and 2 on each of the Black Hose Inlets. I hope this was a Helpful Review for someone out there. Have fun Reefing!

Length of output
Works great but a couple inch longer output would be nice or at least an adapter to get it further down in the tank

Heavy to carry when changing water
This model does not have a carry handle and with water and media, the thing is really heavy to move to where you are going to change the water. Unlike models with pump buttons for starting the siphon, this one is auto siphon under the right conditions, meaning if you have the flow switches in the right places and you have filled the hoses up enough to start the siphon. After your maintenance water changes, you have to top off the water in the hoses, which is a pain. Changing the flow rate requires a hard press on the display. It has a nice flow rate though, with tolerable noise level. My unwanted snails seem to like hanging out inside the canister.

So far so good but...
I just got it today. So far so good it's quiet. Downside it took me 3 hours to get this thing running. The booklet is a joke and the yt setup videos are just as bad. First issue ,the hoses are hard, stiff and too long for the average size tank and stand so i had to cut them which was another issue due to the forementioned condition of the hoses (my aquarium is a 75 gallon). Once I figured out how the hoses and attachments fit together the 2nd issue was getting it to run. No one said to fill up the canister beforehand than fill both hoses with water nor did they say open outtake and close intake valves. I was use to the blue primer button on my other sunsun canister filter. I didn't bother with the protein skimmer it was a big headache in the setup process. All in all the filter seems to be running okay, I just used the same media from my old filter and just changed the carbon pellets. So, far so good ????????. If anything changes I will update.

This product KILLED ALL MY FISH!!
Before you think I am some hysterical internet moron posting wild claims, know that I have kept fish for 30 years. I am very clean and conscious about what contacts my tank. I prep my kitchen like a surgeon prior to filter changes. I only use inert cleaners on the sink and counter which I rinse with water. No soap or detergent ever touches my aquarium equipment or media. Even the towels I use do not have detergents, dyes, or dryer sheets contact, etc that could enter my tank environment. I do not post this to hurt the company, though I know the power it has. I do so to warn others so they do not go through the horrific event of losing all your fish in less than an hour. I purchased the SunSun HW-3000 model from Amazon on Feb 15 2023. It arrived the 17th setup Feb 17th. I noticed some debris inside and some odd lubricant on the seals. I rinsed all parts with warm tap water. I passed this off as typical storage debris and assumed any lubricant was inert and not harmful, though I wiped and rinsed it anyway. I hooked up the filter according to instructions. It ran smoothly for a short time and my fish started to die. My assumption is something they exposed the product to, the lubricant, or plastic this product is made of, killed all of my fish! This was an 8 year old established planted tank with rare rainbow fish. I had a previous HW-350 that ran perfectly for 3 years until the gasket wore out and I could not find another gasket to fit this model. (the one on amazon does not fit) I am devastated and horrified that a product made for aquariums could be so defective or irresponsible with chemicals. My fish and aquarium were a daily beloved part of my life and now in an instant they are all gone. I emailed the company directly, which I doubt will get a response, but I had to do my due diligence. I wanted others to know the horrific impact this product had so they do not go through this too. The media used was cut from sheets of filter media I had in the other filter. I de-chlorinated the water in the container and reused my biological media. Like I said, I know what I am doing. I used this media for years and it was already running through the tank before. The only new introduction was the blue pad and white pad that came with the HW-3000 and the filter itself.

Excellent price but inadequate (flow) performance
For the price, this filter is an attractive option. That said, buyers should be aware that the filter likely won't live up to expectations... For the most part, it is easy to assemble. If this is your first time setting up a canister filter, look for YouTube tutorials or ask questions, as the instructions are very poorly translated and may be confusing if you don't already know how things should be set. Pay attention to the little knobby things on the tops of the intake and outputs (tank side); mine were both unscrewed and the output was dialed down to minimum flow. If I didn't know to look for this, I would have had nearly no flow from this filter at all. I'm replacing a SunSun 704b (I think?) with this unit. The media baskets on this unit are slightly larger, but somehow manage to have the same volume, but there is one additional basket, so more capacity overall. I previously ran 1 basket for mechanical filter media (sponges, floss) and 2 baskets full of BioHome Ultimate media. Now I have 1 basket with filter media, 2 full of the BioHome and one additional basket which I've got additional bio-media in. So overall, I've increased my bio filtration by 50% (in theory), which is a plus. On the downside, there is no way this unit is pushing as much water as advertised. The output comes with 2 really cheap nozzles (you can hardly direct the flow) at 90 degrees, or 1 spray bar that can replace one of the nozzles. As I'm trying to direct my flow in a specific direction, I've opted for 1 nozzle and the spray bar. The bar comes in 3 segments; I'm only using two. Even then, with the 1 nozzle and spray bar, the bar barely has any flow coming out of it. The 'jets' of water can fly horizontally about 2 inches before falling downward. For the rated flow, I expect much higher pressure out of the spray bar. Maybe there's a way to disable the other nozzle completely; if there is, it's not in the instructions and I'm not smart enough to figure it out on my own. I do like that the UV lamp is programmable, so I can only run it for a few hours per day. This is an improvement over the older units where it was binary (on/off). I don't find the tunability of the output motor to be useful because the flow is already too low... no need to lower it further. I bought this filter as a secondary for my 125g mbuna tank (primary filter is a Fluval FX6), so I'm not horribly upset about the lack of flow. I do find this unit to be slightly louder than my FX6, which is a real shame, considering how little water it is moving. All in all, for the price I paid, I'm decently happy. If you are planning on this being your primary filter, perhaps spend the extra few dollars and get a mainstream brand. *Side note: If you are familiar with the older SunSun models, be aware that this unit is wider than those. Originally I was going to put this on my 65g tank, but it wouldn't fit inside the stand (too wide), which is why I had to switch it with the 704b. Update: I ended up moving this filter to my 65g tank due to the lower than ideal flow; replaced it with a Fluval FX4. I realized in the changeover that this unit holds approximately DOUBLE the media as the FX4, even after you have used the first basket for mechanical filtration. This is pretty impressive and makes me want to upgrade my review to 3.5 stars if I could. Still disappointed by the flow though.

Needs some engineering changes.
A couple of issues that prevent me from going higher than a 2. The clamp is too small to use on the side of my tank even after removing the slide plate. With the slide plate it won’t even fit on the back. You can’t tighten the holder for the green hose once the hose is pulled on. The O.D. Is maybe 1/8” too thick. I have it running so will see how it clears up the aquarium. It would also be nice if you could attach the water output deeper in the water and not only on the surface and of you could use the filter basket with the surface skimmer. If the water doesn’t clean up the way I want I’ll have to replace it with something else that actually performs and puts together better. Too expensive with the above flaws IMO (especially since bio media is not included - only the polishing filter pads).

Works well enough - been running for 5 months. Buttons can stop working for a while
Generally, I was happy with most aspects of this canister filter. It was easy to install, you have to buy your own filters and bio media as this doesn't really include anything useful to use. For the mechanical pre filter, I just buy a bit sheet and cut to size for the bottom most layer. I then used lots of bio filters in zipped cloth bags and filled up the other layers. This is used in a 125 gallon goldfish tank with 9 gold fish, and it's not enough to pull debris from the other side as goldfish are messy - especially on regular green peas diet. I added a second hagen aquaclear 110 at the other side to keep the tank clear. I believe even at the lowest setting, the UV lamp worked (after the tank had cycled in week 6) and the algae bloom stopped and the tank is now clear. The bio filtration aspect seem to work as well. By adding lots of Pothos with only roots immersed and the plants hanging out, I also saw that after 2 months, there was very little nitrates, zero nitrites, zero ammonia and water is crystal clear. It's been running for almost 6 months now, so I have a fully cycled tank with minimal maintenance even with 9 goldfish. My only complaint is that after a month, the buttons were sluggish to respond and appear to be misaligned with the locations as printed on the canister top. Cleaning the filter after 5 months of use is not easy, but it's about as complicated as you would expect as another filter. If there was a way to reverse the flow easily and pump the inlet out to the drain, it would be ideal, but I'd have to build a few switches, use an external water pump, switch off the pump and then flush them. If the cannister had a drain outlet near the bottom specifically to flush out the first layer filter pads (where most of the muck is), this would be a huge time saver, however right now, the only way to do this is with a lot of extra additions (which I will do next). The only real problem I had was the buttons appear to malfunction on my unit and it became very difficult to change the power settings of both the pump and the UV, I'm not sure if I have a defective one but since I haven't seen any other complaint, I assume I just happen to have gotten a flaky one. It has worked for months for now.

Excelente filtro.

So far so good
I just got this unit setup and did a few tests on it, I have a pre-filter on the intake, a medium and fine foam at the bottom of the filter with the filter floss pad provided and all of the remaining trays filled to the top with Seachem Matrix and frankly, the flow is pretty decent. Especially for the price point. All the hoses feel pretty good, attachment methods are solid, no real issues so far. If this unit has any bit of longevity, I'll probably never buy the name-brand canisters again. It holds 3-4 times more media than my FX4 and the flow seems to be similar, less but similar. I've heard horror stories about leaky seals or the UV filling with water, I suppose I'll find out soon.
