Great line

This is great line, very small diameter with solid strength, low memory, very difficult to find in most stores. I love the 6 and 8lb for Crappie, it’s like using 4lb test, but with added confidence. I highly recommend this line. I horse them in.

Good stuff

This is one of my favorite fishing lines for walleye/crappie/sunfish fishing with a spinning reel. I've been using it on and off for many years now. Thinner, limper, and less memory than most mono/copolymer lines of the same strength. And the clear and the green are just as low-vis as any other non fluorocarbon lines, and more low vis than any braided lines. There are two other very similar fishing lines I currently like and use: Gamma Co-polymer, and Super Silver Thread (SST). Gamma no longer manufactures fishing line as of spring 2010, and therefore it is getting a little too old for my comfort on the store shelves now. And SST is not available in most Brick&Mortar stores that sell fishing line (although it is easy to find online, which is where I get it now). I have heard good things about P-Line, and some versions of the Sufix lines, and used each of them on a rig for a month or so. Both seemed like good lines, similar to Magnathin and SST. I expect to try them out more heavily in the near future. I have read though that you have to be extra careful buying the PLine, especially the CXX Extra Strong. The listed lb-test is often WAY under the actual lb-test, so if you buy line listed as 10# CXX Extra Strong, it is actually something like 18# test line. So if you buy it by listed strength, it is much stronger (and therefore much thicker and stiffer) than you probably want/need it to be. You are better off finding the line diameter of a 'standard' line (like Trilene XL) of the lb-test you want, and then buy the PLine that has a *slightly* smaller diameter. It will be stronger and limper than the 'std' line, even though the PLine *listed* lb-test is lower. It did feel a little 'risky' when I did that, but the performance proved the point and I was happy I had done it.

Favorite Mono

Best mono you can buy. Thin and strong....no wind knots like you get with power pro fiber, and if you stretch it before you fish, it lays out prefect. If you've never stretched mono...try tying or hooking your line, a little farther than you can cast it, to something like a fence or tree, then stretch it really tight for while. I'll do it for about an hour the day before I fish and it lays out flat every time. A little Line & Lure conditioner added to your line after you stretch it works wonders as well. The key to mono is taking care of it. It will last longer and it's easier to work with than fiber or carbon fiber, especially tying it. Long live MONO!

Fishing Line as Good as it Gets!

I have used this line since the 1980's. It is outstanding. It is also misunderstood. Most line manufactures cheat. They will say a line is 10 lb. when it is actually closer to 12 lb. Everyone says see how strong it is! You will find that Magnathin actually under 11 lb. As a result you are comparing apples and oranges. If I was switching from another line of say, 10 lb. then use 12 lb Magnathin. If you compare diameters they will be almost exactly the same and you will be getting a superior line. I have landed a 45 lb Halibut on 12 lb. Magnathin. You just need to be aware that the thinner diameter requires closer attention to any rough spots etc. Knot strength is superior also but when using a fine diameter line use good knots and retie regularly. Magnathin is a very high performance product. As such it will provide low stretch, longer casts, catch finicky biters and have superb handling and "feel" with light lures.The secret to any good fisherman is "Attention to Detail". If you are just out to relax and have a cold one than up the line test. You will still get excellent performance, knot strength and "feel". Whatever you do measure the actual diameter and do not believe what the manufactures say.

Better than trilene

Been using Stren last few years. Seems to hold up better than trilene.. doesn't fray as easily. I like magnathin for my 3000 Spinner. I can spool up 10 lb, but loads up like 8 lb. Throw tube jigs for this setup, for largemouth, but also works for walleye.

Want The Best Monofilament Line - Buy Magnathin.

I did not get paid or receive anything for my review. I personally purchased and paid for this item from Amazon.ca ( Verified Purchase ). The clear 6 lb and 16 lb Stren Magnathin monofilament line are my two favourite diameters of monofilament lines that I have used for fishing on a regular basis for the past 25 years. The 6 lb test Magnathin has a line diameter equal to most 4 lb test lines and has the strength of 8 lb test line and is the best line for crappie / pan fishing or saugers or speckled and rainbow trout. Its small diameter sinks fast and is super strong and has a low visibility and is super sensitive and will sink the hook quickly. I use it on all my smaller push button reels ( Daiwa 108 / 9300 etc ) and my 2 small extra light spinning reels. I use the clear 16 lb test Magnathin line for walleye and bass and pike and muskie and have landed numerous chinook salmon in the 30 to 40 lb range using the 16 lb test line. The 16 lb test is super sensitive and super strong and is great in weeds or along rocky bottoms and for fishing in really strong rapids and has a small diameter that is equal to 12 lb test monofilament lines. The 16 lb test is my number one choice for large spool capacity push button reels ( Daiwa 117 ) and medium and large spinning reels and is on all my Daiwa and Shimano bait cast reels. It has less memory / coil than normal monofilament lines and casts farther than any other monofilament line I have ever used. Want the best monofilament line - Buy Magnathin. I recommend this product and I hope you enjoyed my review and it was helpful.

Casts well

So far I like it. Casts nice and my crankbaits are trolling a bit deeper. Haven’t used it long enough to say it’s great but so far I’m liking it.
