Good solid flashlight.
It's 9" long and the barrel is 1.25" in diameter. Not too big, not too little. It weighs about 6/10 of a pound and being metal it has some heft and a good solid feel. It has 3 modes, starting with high spot and ending with low flood. No strobe. It's a very good general purpose flashlight.

Super bright, high quality flashlight
This is lightweight. Fits nicely in the back pocket (or front for that matter). Easy to use. Solid construction. Nice knurling on the handle. I think I prefer this to the old-style larger Maglight, as nice as that flashlight was. LED just blows away the old incandescent style of flashlight. I'd like to get the 3C version because it is even brighter. But, another time! Nice feature where you click to the mode you want--I will call them mode 1, 2, and 3. If you click to mode 1, and then use it for a bit, then click again, it goes off immediately. If you click to mode 1, then immediately mode 2, then use it, then click, it goes off. That's pretty smart but confused me at first.

Over the past several decades, flashlight technology has undergone several revisions, from incandescent to xenon to LED and now to these high intensity leds. This torch replaces one of my 2AA xenon Maglites. Although there are high-intensity LED products using one and two batteries, I concluded that those products are a compromise of the technology and they have a short run time. This 3-AA design delivers the top LED technology without the weight and bulk that comes with C and D cells. Three cells provides a buffer of workable voltage. Of course this 3AA product is longer than a 2AA, no longer fitting into a pants pocket, but it had good balance and I didn't find the additional length objectionable. The click switch was a bit of a mystery, and perhaps someday I might even read the manual. The first click gives the single high intensity LED. The light is white and bright. I found it to be actually too bright and concentrated for my walks between camping tent and bathroom. Yes, I can see quite well where I'm putting my feet but the bright spot on the ground blinds me to whats happening outside the cone. The second click gives the three low intensity LEDs and these have a definite blue/purple hue and were a little too dim for those bathroom walks. The third click seemed redundant to the first and that's the mystery. Fourth click is off. I do look forward to using it for automotive inspection and maintenance in daylight conditions, but for camping walks I will look for a design with more of a flood pattern. The Streamlight company website provides very good documentation for their products. *** update, Jan 2014 *** Torch has worked out perfectly in the garage for automotive inspection and repair. Am still puzzled, why the 3-way switch. And I never use the low intensity purple lites.

Steady Light
My choice was between maglight and this streamlight brand i've never heard of. surefire doesn't sell AA battery flashlights on here, so those were my choices. my top priority was light that didn't dim and surge when you move it. my previous maglight with an incandescent bulb let me down in that regard, and i didn't like the way you turned it on, requiring both hands instead of one. This one doesn't dim when i shake it violently or roll it. the push button allows me to operate it with one hand. the construction feels good in my hands, and the gnarled grip is better than maglight too. the brightness is good. it has a high and low setting, which is good because another light i had only had high power, so you couldn't see well up close with it. there's also a 3rd setting which is high and low at the same time. If it starts to dim when it's moved around, i'll update this review to reflect that.

Well done, but I’d love a new version
It is a well done flashlight. High quality, bright enough, use it for work and keep it in my tool rig. Good for now, but I’d love to design and purchase an upgraded new version. First off, it would need to be usb rechargeable, because what isn’t these days. It’s convenient. Second, it needs a tailcap switch. Having to constantly fumble and turn it in my hand to find the on/off/mode button is an unnecessary extra step. The button is too subdued for easy operation. Minor complaint but it bothers me. A separate mode switch may be a blessing or a curse, but I’d like to see one to try. I prefer to mostly use this on flood mode, both for battery saving and lighting purpose. But to constantly have to press the button multiple times to get flood over spot is also an unnecessary step. That’s all. As is, it is a great flashlight. I find this exact style, 3AAA skinny LED to be my particular perfect flashlight. But things can always be better.

Great but could have been better for my use.
This is a great light. I used to work security and always carried a Surefire 6p. That was awhile back, I was in the market for a new light, and wanted something practical not tactical. Surefire prices have become insanely high, and there is no longer a need to use high priced lithium CR123's now since LED's run well on alkaline. I was pricing a few different Streamlight's, Inova's, and Maglite's (all fairly priced) and decided to try this one. I'm happy with my choice. Very rugged, nice design, light weight, looks better in person, nice size (about the same size as a Streamlight Stinger DS LED) great battery life, runs on basic C cells, EXTREMELY BRIGHT, appears brighter than the what it is rated at. The negative is that when you turn the light on, it starts on the lowest setting, then medium, then bright, then off, repeat. The cycling sucks, but was expected. The fact that it starts on low was a surprise that I wasn't thrilled about, and the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. I would prefer it starting on high like most other lights, other than that the light is great and highly recommended. FYI, the lanyard is flimsy crap, I personally didn't care because I wanted it off, but if you want a lanyard I'd recommend you attach your own better quality one.
