Good Deal.
First, I orderd this rack about a month ago. As is usually the case I received it day's before the delivery date. However, the rack sent to me did not have the 80" strap used to secure the bike to the rack itself. Thre were only 6 straps; while I could secure the rack to my car, I could not secure my bike to the rack. I called the customer service number listed on the instructions that came with the rack and was told to return it to the retailer and it would be replaced. I simply followed the instructions in Amazon's return/replace policy and a replacement was sent out immediately. It too, arrived earlier than stated WITH the 80" strap intact. I used this rack for the first time this past weekend when a friend and myself began a trip on the Great Allegheny Passage. I loaded both bikes on the rack, drove about 24 miles on weather beaten, pothole and patched plagued roads to and from our start point and noticed upon arrival and return that the rack and bikes were both safe and firmly secured. I did use and would suggest (as do the instructions) additional shock cord which I purchased separately, but you can get bungee cords from any dollar store for minimal price and wuold be well worth the investment. Aside from inspecting the rack upon recieiving it ensuring the 80" strap is available (7 straps total) the only other recommendations I would make would be carefully following the instructions included with the rack and there should not be any problems. This is the second bike rack I have purchased from Thule Inc. via Amazon. The first was a trailer hitch bike rack and it worked wonderfully well and I still have it; I changed car's and no longer have a trailer hitch. but, the SR3162 works just as well and I will suggest that others looking for a quality product at a good price consider it. All said, it is a quality product sold at a very good price and It appears that if I take good care of this product according to the instructions there is no reason it shouldn't last a long time. if I had to buy this item again, I definitely would.

Long upper straps work for small hatchback with rear spoiler
Not the greatest design or quality, but it works for my needs, i.e. only one bike, and I couldn't find another affordable rack that would work with the rear spoiler on my small car. I use Velcro to secure my bike to the notched holding bars.

Works well but you’ll want additional reinforcement
I think three bikes would be a little unstable but for 1 or 2 it worked great for an 8-hour highway drive through some nasty weather. You definitely want to either loop the trailing ends of the straps around the bike or bring a couple extra cords to secure your bikes — they include one strap for that purpose but it’s not enough on its own. A good option if you don’t have a trailer hitch.

Great rack for a great price
I just put this rack on my car today but I am really impressed with it so far. I have an 06 Honda Civic and it fits fine. You have to adjust the arms and I thought at first I would have a problem because it didn't seem like I could angle them upwards like you're supposed to and still fit it on the car, but I did so just fine. My bike (a woman's) stayed very steady - granted I only drove up and down my street just to make sure it was fine but it didn't bounce around at all. Also, the straps are very sturdy and there is a long strap just for securing the bikes so you don't need separate bungees. Once I got the arms adjusted I wanted to keep them that way so while it does fold to fit smaller in my trunk, I am happy that I can fit it in there without folding it. I would highly recommend this rack. Update - I've used this rack twice now and drove it an hour round trip each way. Have had no problems with it at all. The bikes stay very sturdy with absolutely no bouncing. It is a snap to install and take down and does not take up too much room in the trunk even though I do not fold it. I can't recommend this rack enough!

Simple and solid. Missing individual bike strapdowns
The only thing that could make this product better is having strap over each bike mount position.

Does not safely hold 3 bikes. I found out the hard way!
I followed the directions and had three bikes tightly secured (I tested it several times by gently tugging at them. Didnt budge) AFTER AN HOUR ON THE TURNPIKE I HAD TO PULL OVER AND LEAVE A BIKE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD! The bikes slid off the bars (I noticed the one of the black plastic covers, with the grooves for bikes, came off the metal bars as well. All three bikes shifted and the last bike was almost on the road. I was able to pop the plastic thing back in place and secure my other two bikes. I was on the side of the road for 45 minutes. I was hot, sweaty, swearing like a man, and I thought a tractor trailer might swerve and put me out of misery. I also I got to hear my husband say “I told you the thing looked cheap” when I called to tell him.... so I will be returning it, but I lost a bike in the whole ordeal. It might work for small bikes, but I wouldn’t chance it. Someone could die if those bikes fly off.

Get The Pursuit Model Instead
This rack does not have the pre-requisite straps to secure the bike to to the rack. You are left with figuring out a bungee cord system to secure the bike which can be dangerous if you don't know what you are doing. The Sportrack Pursuit is a much better rack for only a little more money. You won't be sorry if you get the Pursuit rack instead.

Nice adjustable bike rack
Nice bike rack for the price. It is adjustable and has lots of straps to help secure the rack to your car. Works well for 2 bikes, 3 would be a tight squeeze. I use the rack on a Prius and was able to work around the spoiler. It would probably work well for most sedans.

2 Bikes, Not 3!!
This bike rack is easy to assemble and mount on the back of a compact hatchback; however, this bike rack claims to work for 3 bikes and it does not. The bike on the placeholder closest to the car hits the car with the pedals of the bike and scratch the car. It also pushes the bike on an angle preventing the use of the second placeholder. It is best to think of this as a 2-bike mount and ignore the bike placeholder closest to your car. Also, the strap that is provided to secure the bikes to the rack works well for one bike, I would not trust it to secure two safely, and it is definitely not long enough to secure three. I have solved this issue by securing the bikes with extra bungee cords (not included). If the petals are too close to your car for comfort, I'd suggest to put a sock over the petal to further prevent any car scratch mishaps. Overall, this is a good introductory car mount and a cheap solution for transporting 2 bikes from place to place. Would not recommend for 3 bikes. Make sure to get your bungee cords to secure them both properly!

Won't Hold Two Ladies Bikes.
I bought this rack for two reasons. 1) We wanted to transport 3 bicycles. 2) We have a Mazda 5. This product was stated to fit a Mazda 5. Problem is, even though it has 3 slots to place bikes in, there is not enough room to get three bikes on the rack. So, I figured, we can use it to transport 2 bikes; one on the inside place and one on the outside place, ignoring the middle spot. The two bikes are ladies bikes, so there is no upper cross bar, just two lower, angled cross bars. So, the bikes do not sit securely in the slots. I tried to put them on rack with both facing the same direction and also both facing opposite directions. Neither was completely satisfactory; the "both facing the same direction" orientation was the better of the two. After getting the bikes into the rack, it was time to tie them down. That's when I found that the tie down strap was too short. I would like to have seen it at least a foot longer. So, given the combination of two ladies bikes with angled cross bars and the distance apart that they were required to be and the fact that only two bike could be placed on the rack and the fact that the tie down strap was too short, I have to give this product a two star rating. If it didn't hold one bike securely, it would have gotten a one star rating. I also found it difficult to adjust the angle to fit the back of the car. The cogs were difficult to keep the teeth apart until the angle was correct. This is just a tiny bit of exasperation, since it only needs to be adjusted once (assuming you don't want to fold it up after taking off the car). Needless to say, it is being returned.

Didn't fit my bike
I have a HeyBike pedal assist bike and purchased this rack because my Tiguan does not have a trailer hitch. It installed pretty easily and would have worked for my husband's regular bike but the supports on my bike were too far apart so I couldn't use it for my bike.

Love it
Bought it last second to go on vacation. Travelled on the highway about 12 hours with 2 bikes and I was very happy with it. Bikes barely moved and were very secure. The two lateral straps really help when cornering, they still didn't budge. Manual says it can hold 132 pounds so a third bike should be fine. Would buy it again.
