Can you fall in love with a spade?
This spade is what I have been needing for years. I put it to use right out of the box, double digging a new bed in the garden. I'm 5'5", and the size is perfect. I've used a long -handled shovel for decades, but I'm afraid it's going to gather cobwebs in the garden shed now.

Much less likely to bend than others.
Got this for my daughter. My wife has had one for years and it has never bent like the ones she got at the local hardware store. She uses them for double digging which is required in bio-dynamic gardening.

Spear & Jackson Digger
This digging fork is the best, I have prepared the soil in mi garden easily without disturbing the biological system, besides, it was effective to aerate and loose up the soil

If you like bendy stuff you’ll love this!
Dear Spear and Jackson (unless this is a rip off product then dear rip off product producers) we all love a joke and enjoy a good haha. However I do feel creating this garden tool with the promise it would never bend from silly putty was a little too far. I know I know you have that little caveat that you’re promise is only good as long as the buyer only gently pushes about lose soil with it....but come on, forks are for digging. My fork bend quite comically (ok it was a little funny, until I recalled how much I had paid for it) on the first use while trying to dig up a grassy plant. Why was i digging up a grassy plant? That’s between me and the plant. My point is, your product is not fit for purpose. If I wanted to just push dirt about without spending money, I’d use a stick. Alan Titchmarsh would be very disappointed in you.

A good murder weapon
It's a mighty piece of shovel, for sure. A great deal heavier than the generations-of-service spade necessitation sadly replaced, so if you're a wee bit spindly, old and frail like myself that might be worth bearing in mind: it'll dig a hole and crack through inch+ diameter tree roots with ease, but it'll likely make you ache in places you may not have ached before. I couldn't bend it. Would undoubtedly make a good murder weapon and digging under the patio to dispose of the body would be a breeze. Albeit you would likely require a long hot bath or massage afterwards.

Failure
Having bought this fork on the premise of a '15 year never-bend' guarantee, I managed to bend a couple of the spikes within the first week and after a couple of months the shaft snapped in two, both during fairly standard gardening jobs. A frustrating failure.

Quality poor, long term use is yet to be tried
SPade arrived the hammerite paint flaking off the spade edge . Not so sure about the single rivet holding the stem into the forged arm of the spade. There is a substantial gap where it receives the handle stem. The spade is extraordinary heavy in comparison to other border spades. The step welds are sloppy and covered up by heavy application of hammerite paint. Usuage will define its longevity both from rust and the adhesion of the paint which is already flaking. The plastic handle is not solid but ribbed at the side to give it strength fixed by a single rivet to the wooden stem. Looks as if it will give first before the spade end of stem. Quality of finish is slapdash. For a Spear&Jackson this is surprising. It does have a 15 year guarrantee i suspect that is against the bend. No guarrantee if it falls apart. I shall use it as i cannot be bothered going through the returns system.
