Great for your cast iron pans

I love cooking with cat iron pans and I have learned that you can't just use any brush to clean them. This one is perfect and gets in all of the grooves to ensure my pan is clean.

It took care of 2 week old hardened Cornbread

This brush was great to use. It felt sturdy in my hand as I was using to clean out our cast iron skillet that had cornbread left to harden in it for 2 weeks. The metal bristles worked great to scrape off the hardened food particles and made the job fast and easy. I will be using my skillet more often as this will make it easier to clean.

Very Capable Cast Iron Scrub Brush

I have been cooking with cast iron for years and usually prefer it to non-stick pots and pans. The main problem with cast iron is cleaning it afterward; it is often tougher to get clean than other types of pans and it requires some work to get clean when things stick badly. Most of the time a brush like this is sufficient for getting things off my non-glazed cookware, and this particular brush is a good one. I have worked with OXO cast iron brushes before so I knew what to expect. The one I have been using recently has a squared head instead of round, and it works just fine. However, the round head does make working with round pots and pans a little easier when trying to get the edge along the bottom, as it seems to fit a little better than a squared head does. This brush works well on flat-bottom skillets as well as on grill pans. Grill pans can be especially troublesome to clean and this brush gets in the grooves easily enough to make getting my grill pan clean easier. Sometimes, a chain mail scrubber is a better/easier tool for the job, depending on how dirty the pot or pan is, but there is a catch there. In my experience, a chain mail scrubber can remove layers of seasoning if not careful. This brush will not do that and does not damage the seasoning. For stubborn bits, this brush as a scraper lip that does a better-than-expected job of breaking off stuck-on particles without hurting the seasoning. The bristles are stiff nylon. While they work well, it means that you can't use this on a hot pan right off the stove without melting the bristles. While this may seem obvious, it is easy to make this mistake and use it on a hot pan (as I did with my very first brush). I am pleased with this brush and expect to get a good bit of service from it. It seems to be well made and I like the design which works better for round cookware than the square head brushes. It does not hurt layers of seasoning and it is a capable cleaning tool.

Bristles are actually hard plastic, well worth having in the kitchen.

Let's face it..... Food cooked in cast iron just tastes better. From bacon, eggs, veggies, fajita meats to the occasional steak when grilling outdoors is not permissible. However, cleaning the cast iron is a whole other animal. I usually use salt and steel wool, but have a fear of doing it, because many years ago at the age of 15 (I'm almost 50, now), The steel wool cleanly sliced off the tip of my "pointing" finger. Nerve included. I still have no feeling in it, and I play the guitar, and sometimes overpress the string down. This oxo cast iron brush is a definitely sent from the heavens. I mean it took this long to invent it (I'm wondering why I didn't invent it), but here it is. The bristles are hard plastic, quite stiff, as is the scrapper on the end. THe handle is nice and thick and easily feels good in the hand. I use a flat cast iron and use the brush first and then scrape the hard stuff off. I still use salt as a sort of cleaner sanitizer and then heat the cast iron till hot and dry, and oil and season it as needed, if needed. So far, the brush has been golding up and cleaning the brush is beyond easy. Thanks to the stiff bristles they don't bend easily and they don't end up accumulating and gunk. Also once is awhile toss it in the dishwasher to give a serious cleaning.

This is a great cast iron scrub brush!

This is a review of "OXO Good Grips Cast Iron Brush.” Last night my son, who lives with us, helped me put this brush to the test. He is an avid cast-iron pan user and already has a favorite scrub brush. I think he was skeptical, but said he actually really liked this OXO brush. He said it was helpful that the bristles were so short and that it maneuvered around the pan really well. They were stiff enough, but not too stiff. The handle worked fine for gripping and scrubbing. He was excited for the little nib at the top of the brush and referenced as being really good for scraping stubborn stuff off. It’s nice that this has a rounded head.
